Great food, very tasty and real Indian style. Quiet place, friendly owner and reasonably priced. They do delivery as well.

Don't let my Asian cover fool you because I well, when you grow up with Scandinavian parents you just don't eat a lot of spicy food! Salt and Pepper were considered "spices"! When I found out that Handi was literally a few miles from our flat, and it came highly recommended by friends who live on a different part of the island, I told my husband we must try it out. He looked at me like I had 5 heads because I had never tried Indian food so he couldn't wait to take me there. This place is the cutest. Yes. It's so quaint and tiny. I feel like I'm in the owner's home. We chose to eat inside where there's about 5 tables from two-seaters up to 6 seats. Each table decked out in red and white checkered cloths. The menu is like a small book, with a variety of sections to choose from. It was quite plentiful. As well as several options for vegetarians too. From the first bite to the last crumb, everything was delicious! It's definitely going to be our go-to spot from now on. I think what made this meal so incredible was the combination of the home cooked feel of the food accompanied by such hospitable and wonderful service from the owner. I think he could tell we truly enjoyed our food, and he gave us their take away menu and told us they have free delivery for certain areas. Indian cravings will be fully taken care of here! Prices are reasonable. Service is quick and friendly. Bring yourself or bring the entire family, you won't be disappointed.

On the other hand, the naan is a bit dry and hard, and I wish they use basmati for rice. They have set meals for a good value. Service is not exactly warm, but efficient enough. Also when we set down they brought cold water to us but a glass of warm water for my dad, an attentive gesture I appreciated. I went there for lunch and each lunch set comes with a vegetable soup entree. The soup is thick in texture but not heavy at all, very comforting and tasty. Their authentic tandoori chicken is definitely one of my favourites. Served on a sizzling plate with a squeeze of lemon and sliced onions, chicken is marinated deeply and grilled to perfection to lock in the flavour, keeping the chicken breast tender and juicy...mmmm.....yummmmm!! Freshly baked garlic nann is another highlight! Warm, fresh and puffy from the oven, with a texture of soft chewy bread layered with thin crispy crusts and a hint of fresh garlic on top. Delicious to be served on its own or with any main dishes. The only downside is that there's an Indian songs x HKNews crossover happening in the restaurant :P Carpark is available outside of the restaurant.

I can credit coming here for lunch to my fellow Yelpers, and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed…read more Shaffi's is a small, somewhat low-key Indian restaurant that's not too far off from Yuen Long Station offering good food at a good price. I ordered a tandoori chicken tikka. Which they did really well. The chicken was flavourful, yet it was still very succulent. They also make a good tomato soup and chai, so I was very pleased with the food quality overall. The naan is also very tender and as such, went very nicely with the curry that they served it with. I was however a bit surprised by the lack of parsley or coriander on the garlic naan, but otherwise, it was still very good. Service is attentive and helpful, and from my observations, also bilingual. Shaffis offers set menus and I'd recommend taking advantage of that.

The location of Shaffis, however, has everything to do with its history and why its ended up here. Shaffis' proprietor, Ali, had been an army cook for the British army at RAF Shek Kong prior to the handover. He had long been serving Indian dishes to the forces (a force tradition) and his name is well known beyond the walls of the barracks. To cut a long story short, he stayed on after the handover and started his own restaurant and where better than Yuen Long for an upstart restaurant. Some 17 years later now and this restaurant has its own following of fans. Those from the disciplinary forces have close ties as could be seen by the plaques lining its walls. The interior aside, Shaffis' tandoori chicken, tikka masala, aloo gobi are all staples that are enjoyed by many. Apart from the items mentioned, there is an extensive menu that will suit those who are looking for a true taste or would like something a little milder. The naans are cooked by traditional ovens and through a little portal on the wall you could peek into the army of chefs toiling away behind the scenes. This is a must for curry lovers.

Known for quality food and clean interiors, this location did the same as well. The interior was very clean and the service was very good. Vegan Medu Vada - this was the least liked item for us. The Medu Vada, seemed very small for SB and looked as it was made by novice rather than an experienced chef. The MVs are normally much bigger and perfectly round and equal batter all around. Just one chutney and very little sambhar didn't help. The Vegan Rava Masala Dosa was better. Nice crisp dosa overfilled with Potato and Onion masala. The three chutneys and sambhar (less qty.) was good. The mostly Vegan North Indian Thaali was good as well. The curries to the point. The curries had a South Indian touch though, which is OK. The cauliflower 65 pakora was the best and super crunchy.
