It got a lot busier after we sat. But there are lots of tables and people keep moving out. Many in the line are takeout customers as well. The staff is very quick in clearing out the tables. Although there are clear signs that customers are supposed to take their dishes away and put the green waste (leftover food) in a bin and cutlery and plates separately. But some do not. The inside is clean and bright but the tables are bit tighter and but difficult to stand up and go for food. The food is good some deep fried fritters and most other items are healthier. None of them are overly spiced or seasoned. There are a few different spicy sauce bottles if you wish to. The food good and many dishes were completely changed when we went again. For about $100 HKD, you can't go wrong.

The cafe itself is very small with two indoor tables, and two outdoor tables. I suspect most people who come here, would use their delivery service or go for takeout. What I like about their free home delivery service, is that they have their own delivery driver, and do not rely on the group websites like Cuisine Courier or Food By Web, who always seem to make a hash of any sort of online delivery anyway. While the cafe/restaurant is not particularly nice to look at, the food is the opposite. It is supposedly traditional village style, and they serve such classics as; tikka, roganjosh, masalla, madras, you get the idea. They also do a good range of breads, rices, speciality drinks, and wine - yep, wine on the take out/delivery menu - sweet! The menu is actually very big, which is surprising given the size of the tiny kitchen on site. It really does rival the take outs we get back home (and we all know the English invented curry). If you do want to give it a go, I would recommend the malai kofta (a vegetable croquette in a rich creamy curry sauce), and the fish tikka, which is grilled to perfection. They are also not too shy on their portions. With regard to delivery, do check out their pricing, as they are very local to Mid Levels, and getting further out, requires a much bigger minimum order.

In fact, I think I prefer the dal makhani to the chicken makhani. Rich, creamy, and a bit spicy, the dal makhani is what you order when you're seeking the ultimate comfort food. Dip some of that butter naan in the dal and that's all you need to indulge in the ideal Indian meal. I recommend passing on the roti as it was really dry. Overall though, Indian Village is serving wonderfully complex, traditional Indian flavors. Ambiance is better suited for take-away than dining in, and they also deliver via FoodPanda. I am a fan!

We had two claypots (salted fish with meat cake, shrimp paste with pork), their onion and soy sauce chicken and veggies. The salted fish and meat cake claypot had generous portions of both ingredients. The pork in the meat cake tasted fresh and the salted fish was definitely salty enough. The shrimp paste with pork was also very good. The shrimp paste that the pork was cooked in was just strong enough to have flavor but not overbearing. The cut of pork has the texture of pork neck meat - tender but with a slight chew to it. Both pots produced really good burnt rice. The burnt rice at the bottom of the claypot was crispy and didn't stick to your molars. The onion and soy sauce chicken was tender but a little bit under cooked. Still edible, but there was a light pink to bigger pieces of meat. The veggies that we ordered were very bright green and well cooked with garlic, even though we actually ordered with soup. The staff were nice and patient, no rushing you in and out. The restaurant itself felt like it had been there for a long time, but it wasn't dirty or grubby. My only complaint was that the food took a long time to come (at least 20 minutes). The server warned us that the claypot rices would take long, which I understand, but the chicken and veggie should have been quicker. It could have also been that I was really hungry so felt especially impatient. Overall, I had a good dining experience it here and would recommend this place to anyone in the area.
