Reunited with the love of my life!!! Lan Fong Yuen takes the cake for milk tea in Hong Kong for me…read more Me, having the worst sense of direction I was thinking it was the same location I went to couple months ago. I kept following the GPS and at one point got so irritated because it said I arrived. Looked north, south, east, west-- arrived where?! After 10 minutes of walking I passed by a building and what do you know, it had Lan Fong Yuen and a bunch of other restaurants listed with their respective suite numbers.
And of course, it was a completely different location from the one I've been to before.
It was great though because I actually got to sit in and order some food this time.
Place looks like a retro, older cafe that you see in TVB dramas. It is definitely more spacious than other places in Hong Kong so plently of seats available. Servers do speak some English to where communicating and ordering wasn't a problem.
I also appreciate how there was a menu with photos! It always help to have visuals for people not familiar with certain dishes.
Anyhow, we ordered the classic iced milk tea, crisp bun with butter, and thick toast. The crisp bun did come out burnt on the edges, which was a little offputting when it first got set on the table. But it did not taste burnt or affected the taste in anyway. I preferred the thick toast a little more, I think it's just overall texture of it being more soft and perhaps visually more appealing. My parents said they liked the bun more though.
What I found was really sweet was one of the ladies was walking around, kind of paused for a bit before coming up to our table and pointed the syrup and signaled for us to pour it onto the toast. After we did it she smiled and gave a thumbs up.
She knew we were foreigners and not knowing how to properly eat it and wanted to help us despite the language barrier. It shows that LFY really does care and want the best experience for their customers. Because you know, not many will do what she did. Having the mentality of "not my business, why should I care?" Or "I'm not the owner/manager, it's not my responsibility" (I'm pretty sure she wasn't as she was in uniform and in Asian cultures, usually the person at the register is the person in charge)
I think that experience will stick with me for a lifetime.
Oh and how could I end the review without my beloved iced milk tea! It tasted as wonderful as expected, not too bitter and not too sweet. It came out with the restaurant's cup and not the plastic to go ones with their signature. I was a little disappointed because now I won't have a pretty Instagram shot. I know, first world problems. But I saw a table with those cups so I think my feelings are justified. After finishing everything, I had ordered another iced milk tea to go so that solved my issue.
As I'm writing this, I really want some LFY now. Well, till next time Hong Kong!
