My flights from TYO to HKG and subsequently HKG to SFO were cancelled due to Typhoon Ragasa. In fact, all flights were cancelled at HKG for 36 hours. They were able to find me the next available flight on the same day on another airline from HND to SFO avoiding the entire mess. They save me a few day of being stuck in Tokyo and the cost of a hotel stay. With typhoons, it is an act of God and they don't have to compensate you. Well done Cathay Pacific airlines. read more

The flight from Hanoi to Hong Kong was only 1 hour and 45 minutes. But Cathay Pacific did not disappoint with the service and the food. It was a simple business class menu. I chose the Cantonese poached chicken with Jinhua ham choy sum, bell pepper and chicken rice. And I was truly blown away. The moistness of the chicken,the freshness of the meat, the perfect temperature of all the items and the distinct flavor and taste of the dish. It is not often I get overwhelmed. But I did this time and shared it with both the head and serving staff in the business class cabin. I admitted that this food was even better than the long haul options on the HKG - LAX sector. The staff reminded me that this food was very good because it was cooked in Hanoi and not Hong Kong. LOL. Truly an honest testament. I had to write again, needed to share this unforgettable experience. This will definitely rate as one of the best, if not the best meals, I have had on a plane. read more

I flew Cathay Pacific from Hong Kong to Taiwan (HKG - TPE)... Boarding went very well, I was economy, which had a huge line... But boarded with First Class due to my Emerald status with One World. Once on board, the seats in economy were decent, adequate enough for a short flight of about an hour or so. Service was decent on board as well. They even came to my seat and addressed me by name, thanking me for my Emerald status. Definitely will fly them again! read more

Honestly, this has got to be worse international airline that I have flown. I purchased my round trip ticket based on the fact that they advertised the lowest airfare for the destination that I was flying to at the time. My online experience was not the greatest which should have been my warning but chasing a bargain I purchased my tickets anyway. When I encountered a problem with my ticket the customer service by phone was not great either. Then on my day of travel the service I experienced with the representative (Amona) at the airport counter was even worse. The counter representative instructed me to check my carryon bag instead of asking and gave me no reason why she asked this. When an another representative gets involved she rewords her request to me and this time she asks if I want to check my bag. My reply was "no I never did you told me I had to check my bag". The new representative smirks at my statement which confirmed to me that the first representative lied and I didn't have to check my carryon. The boarding process was chaotic because it's literally first come first serve. On board was no better. I pressed my call button during the flight because my entertainment system was not working and no one responded for over an hour. The seatbelt light was even off during the time I rang so there was no clear reason for the lack of response. Then in Hong Kong as I'm getting off the plane a representative directs to the transfer area even though I explained to her I was staying for a extended layover in Hong Kong before continuing to my final destination. She continues to tell me NOT to go to immigration and to go thru the transfer process. Only to be told I could not go thru immigration once I went through transfer. To resolve the issue I had to have the airline escort me to immigration. When I complained about the representative in Hong Kong insisting that I go thru the transfer process instead of immigration like I wanted. The representative at the Cathay airlines desk blamed me and said I shouldn't have listened to her. He also repeated this statement later to a few other passengers from my flight with the same complaint who were escort to immigration with me. SMH. My return was slightly better but based on my overall experience Cathay airlines will never see me or my money again! read more

There are some bad reviews on Cathay here. Cathay Pacific is one of the world's best airlines. This time I had a connecting flight from HKG-MNL. For the 1 hour 45 min flight, they managed to serve dinner and serve their signature drink before take-off. Give me a blanket and everyone, I mean everyone is smiling. Had a feel good flight with wowness. Prior to the flight, I had an invite to the Cathay Pacific Lounge where they had a full on kitchen style setup for food, desserts befitting a patisserie, dim sum service, a real full bar and comfy nooks and sections where you can sit down and decompress. Wifi was responsive. While the lounge was full, the heartbeat of the support staff at this lounge was on I truly enjoyed everything I've experienced on this flight. Visits: 1 read more

I had been on CX Economy and Businesss class on both short and long haul flights and usually have a good experience. Food served in Economy did go downhill especially compares to Singapore Airline and All Nippon. Since I route through Hong Kong quite a bit, so it is quite convenient with their extensive network to Taipei, Japan and other part of Asia. read more

I flew Cathay Pacific from SFO to Hong Kong on Business Class. I boarded just after midnight and getting a good night sleep was very much appreciated. Service was what you might expect when in a premium class of service. Too bad I was too tired to take full advantage of the food and beverage service and the TV entertainment options. However, the complimentary toiletry kit designed by Seventy Eight Percent was keeper. When I arrived in Hong Kong the next morning (local time), I cleared customs and headed straight to the Cathay Pacific Lounge. The breakfast offerings were nice, but what I appreciated the most was the chance to take a shower. Food and clean-up was the refreshment I needed before heading off to the next terminal to take a Malaysian Air flight to Kota Kinabalu. read more

It's been 4 years since my last trip to HKG. It is usually the airline of choice when I fly to Hong Kong, and this time is no different. What prompted me to write a review of it is because the experience wasn't as positive as the last 20+ years of traveling with them. On this particular trip, I flew LAX to HKG, the plane was delayed (not by much), but it was just how discombobulated everything was that made for an excruciating 15+ hr flight. Some of the flight attendants were downright rude to some passengers (not me), but I got a couple of super sweet ones who were just delightful. The toilets were super gross half way through the flight so I was cringing when I tried to maneuver my way from one toilet to the next. Needless to say, a flight to or from Asia is always this way regardless of airline. I had some issues when I called their office to get seat assignments, but when I got to the airport the guy who helped me was more than gracious and helpful. My God Cathay Pacific, what has happened to you? I took a picture of the "dim-sum" en route from Hong Kong to Taipei. A bloody disgrace. This airline used to be way up there in terms of service. Now you are lucky if they walk through the cabin more than once with water offerings. Not to mention the fact that we were delayed BOTH TIMES. We missed our connector (because the outbound was delayed) and ended up hanging around H.K. airport for 4 hours. Also: Cathay seems to believe that one hour between flights is enough time to connect. I flew CX from LHR-HKG and HKG-SFO both in business class. While the food has improved slightly the service went downhill. The crew on both flights were very green, there was no hot towel service and no mixed nuts served with drinks. After meal service the crew disappeared albeit it was a daytime flight. There was no topping up of drinks and no checking on passengers, they were nowhere to be seen but when I rang the bell they showed up promptly. I had a midflight snack and the empty tray sat there for hours even though some of them walked by and noticed that, they eventually cleared it but only when they brought me my breakfast. The lavatories were horrific, it's obvious that no one cleaned them the entire flight. The audio system at my seat was problematic on a rather new A350-900. The 777s desperately need an upgrade, the monitor was small with poor resolution and the seat was worn and tired. The only reasons I would fly with them again is because of their wonderful lounges and their nonstop service between these cities. EVA and ANA are far superior to CX in terms of food catering and service. read more

+.5 for service I thought Cathay Pacific was supposed to be one of the world's premier airlines. They were okay, but compared to flying Air Canada for long haul there wasn't a significant difference. I'll likely go with whichever is cheaper in the future (which, in this case, was Cathay due to their summer promotion). Flew YYZ - HKG both ways. I had high expectations considering all the positive stories I've previously heard about Cathay. Upon entering the plane, the menu was already placed on my seat, and I immediately thought the food selections was better than Air Canada, although they serve one less meal than them. Cathay also caters to those who can't eat certain food products, although you'd have to reserve them online beforehand. I found their lunch selections to be better than their dinner selections. Their lunch comes with a pasta option and also comes with Haagen-Dazs ice cream, which is world's above what the other counterpart serves. However, their dinner selections were quite mediocre, and the fact they serve dinner halfway through the flight meant the last 7.5 hours you get nothing (unless you decide to request cup noodles). The entertainment selection was quite good, but the screens were quite glitchy. Both flights my screen randomly shut off several times, and a few times it froze to the point I had to ask a flight attendant to reset my screen. Seating was quite uncomfortable. I heard about their new seats and not sure if I got them on my 773, but they weren't comfortable at all for sleeping. The window seats were also hard to adjust. No delays both ways, which was nice. I think for the hype I received my expectations definitely fell short, but a 2 star review currently for Cathay is a bit harsh. However I certainly don't think Air Canada is the enemy anymore after my Cathay experience. read more

This is my first time riding Cathay, LAX - HKG. I booked 3 months ago and was really looking forward to this flight. I've always read about great reviews, but I guess I'm not updated on my read. I am going to agree with some others on here who said Cathay used to have excellent service. The flight was about 20 minutes delayed out. Fine, I can deal with that since I had no connection on arrival. But, I can only imagine for those who do. Plane is a 777-300ER. I was in economy where the seats are 3-3-3, so not too much space. Service - just average. And since this is my first time flying, I'll use this as a comparison: United Airlines - flown them forever, both international/domestic, but they are one of the worst in service (I fly them because they are one of two who fly to my hometown, so not much choice.) Flew ANA a year ago, LAX - NRT: excellent everywhere! Pluses - entertainment selection was pretty good, which you're going to want and need on a 14 hour flight. They had a large number of movies, music, etc. Also, the restroom looked like it was attended to, as toilet paper, soap, napkins, etc were constantly filled. And... they have a good selection of snacks. Unlimited top ramen noodles included. Lol! Overall, sad that I was not too impressed with CP. read more

This is one of my favourite airlines, and it was one of the airlines that made me fall in love with traveling. How that happened was when I flew on Cathay Pacific's popular San Francisco to Hong Kong route. I remembered watching a lot of great movies, tasty and savoury food that tasted better than airline food from US airlines, and seeing some of the most lovely and gorgeous flight attendants I have ever seen in my life. I was 13 at that time. Recently, I flew on Cathay Pacific's JFK (New York John F. Kennedy) to HKG (Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok) route Economy Class. The plane was a Boeing 777, I would leave New York before 1:00 AM, and arrive in Hong Kong very early in the morning at around 6:00 AM. The dinner of stir fried chicken with rice was pretty good, and it's great that they provide Haagen-Dazs ice cream as dessert. It's definitely better than some of the airline food I had from US airlines when flying overseas. Breakfast was fish and ginger congee and that was also good as well. The entertainment system was still pretty good, with the nice upgrades. I could charge my phone using a USB cable, which was great, so I can listen to music without draining the battery. Seat was comfortable, but could use a little more legroom. The flight attendants were great, they were very nice and lovely to talk to, and some were really gorgeous. Overall, this is still one of my favourite airlines, and probably one of the best airlines I have flown on. My main gripe with Cathay Pacific is that if they can reward American Airlines passengers with miles, especially those who fly discounted Economy, it can be a better airline. read more

I am Emerald One World member with AA membership. On April 11 returning flight back to SFO, I used In Town check-in at Kowloon Station. The counter staff MS Ip was most rude and condescending. No smile or greeting. Upon completion of check-in, she threw my passport along with luggage tag and first class lounge invitation on the counter without saying a word. I had to gather the disarrayed papers from the counter and looked through if I got everything I needed. Upon arriving airport at night, I used the Wing first class lounge. During that time, I went up to front desk to inquire my gate information, while in the middle of conversation, the staff saw 3 Caucasian male walking in and stopped talking to me and rushed up to service them. It was the most discriminatory treatment I have ever encountered as first class lounge guest. As a Asian American, I found it racist and totally unacceptable coming from an airline who takes pride for its service quality. read more

If you haven't ever wanted to go skydiving you will at 40000 feet in the air now. Currently waiting on the plane now, looks like I'll be here all night folks. Don't worry about me, the hard cardboard seats on the plane will cradle me to sleep as the pilot apologizes for the rough landing and the 45 minute delay to even leave their prison in air. The worded experienced is in Hong Kong ticketing counter. Arrived early to check in with my 7 years old daughter. Upon arriving at the ticketing counter the agent refused to check me in because I don't have a copy of my daughters birth certificate and the ticketing agent told me that the Philippines government requires it. Which stupid enough because I came from US to Philippines and from Philippines to HongKong, Hong Kong to Macau and Macau to Hong Kong and I was not hold the immigration for not having that stupid Birth Certificate the ticketing agent requires me to have. I'm so disappointed because this is very inconvenient for me specially my daughter to not to leave on time and we were put in a later flight. Cathay I know your Modus ok, I know why this ticketing agent asked me a birth certificate that even multiple immigration agent didn't ask me. Here I sit with the audio of the Cathay Pacific's Piliot stating a blustery 80 mile per hour winds expected for Hong Kong's impending storm Tomorrow. those of you leaving out of Hong Kong tonight will miss the storm. I tried to to get on the plane explaining to the counter man that I'm aware of the storm. The accent was too thick to actually get it all, he basically stated there's no time to change my ticket. I asked, "I have to fly out in the storm tomorrow?" he said yes, then retracted it, by miraculously becoming a weatherman telling me "You'll be okay tomorrow with the storm" ooops? I will? Hey his English is better than my Mandarin/Cantonese--but his broken English didn't help me feel better about Thursday's flight. And that's not his job is it? the worst airlines i've ever been on and i e been on just about all. on the way over a stopped in la to buy some expensive art. had no trouble at all taking it on board w me that was w american airlines but with cathey pacific/dragon. they ushered me to the oversized department and just had me put my info on it. no ticket. no number. lile all the other times i've done this. that not the major issue the manor issue is, and if you check around you'll read the same thing over and over this the company. i was traveling to bali for a month. i have grand mal seizures. when i got my bag. it looked as if someone, had to be an employee of cathey pacific/ dragon. evaise they were the only ones. the only ones that had access to my bag. my luggage had man-made wholes on the bottom and was wrapped back up. my grand mal seizures medication was messing. i checked and double checked. before i handled it over to them. it was in its special pocket. i saved up 2 years for this trip and it turned into 3 days. i could not stay without it. i went to the police, clinics hotel doctor. no one would help or even knew what tegrotol was i got the embassy and u s consulate involved as well. my dr was more than willing to send the prescription but due to thier strict customs rules i would not of gotten it for 3 weeks to a month. i had 5 grand mal seizures where over there. this airline is a joke and a bunch of crucks!!! i don't know what the person or people thought they were stealing out of my bag. opioids probably. i also had to leave in such a hurry i lost all my deposits and 100% of the money for my hotel. i lost around 1300.00 just from the hotel. i've filed many complaints. i cannot even get a call back from cathey pacific/ cathey dragon. its not nust me either. ive seen sooo many stories that are so similar its sicking i could of died over there and they could carless not even a call back. ive hired a lawyer to help wirh this case because i can probe every part of it. read more

Systems in disarray, rude customer service, unapologetic for downgrades. Made us board in Singapore even though the flight was over 2 hours late and the onward connection to Boston would be missed. Misrepresented that would be taken care of and would reach destination in time. Then forced to board the HK-Newark flight arriving at 2am and downgraded to economy to Boston on a 6am flight. My wife and son had to retire bags in Newark, change terminals at 2am and wait for 4 hours for the Boston flight. Next 2 passengers in group downgraded on Singapore to HK leg too. Entered meal restrictions twice into their dismal app and the requests were not catered! Fun eating crackers and an apple on a 13 hour flight. Repeated the miss on the longer return leg! Avoidable airline with terrible customer service on the ground and poor systems. Much better choices available in Qatar, Etihad, Japan Airlines, Singapore, ANA, Jet Airways, etc i.e. No reason to fly unless you have to. read more

Probably my last flight on Cathay to Hong Kong. I've flown about ten trips with them on the LAX to HKG route. The service, beginning with their telephone sales people has become deplorable. Long waits and pushy salesmen on the line. I used to think they were second only to Singapore, no more. The food was the normal, mediocre airline fare, barely edible, so didn't eat. The flight crew never lifted a hand to keep the restrooms clean. After only a few hours into the flight, the floor and toilet area was wet with urine, and it became considerly worse. The trash bins were overflowing early on and no effort was made to remedy the problem. I contacted Cathay on my return, and received the generic reply, with apologies, saying yes the staff was supposed to tidy up during flights and they would look into it. I flew out on March 21 and returned March 31. read more

had a tight connection from Manila to SFO through HK seems like a common theme with Cathay. I was impressed that flight attendant moved me as close to exit as possible towards end of flight so I could get off plane asap. Most airlines especially US carriers would say good luck. When I got off plane another Cathay employee escorted me to my connecting gate. We were both running together. Wizzed through check points and made connection. If i didn't make connection I would have had to wait 12 hours. I'm a fan! read more
