旺泰特食 - Penang seafood curry was terrific. Never had anything quite like it, and it uses super fresh coconut milk!

We live in LA where there's a plethora of Thai restaurants on every block, and LA is known for their large Thai community. While they may not be the most authentic food, it does familiarize us with the smells and spices of Northern and Southern Thai cuisine. Having said that, we felt this little joint was just a cut above ALL the Thai restaurants we've had. With a group of 6 people, we ordered somewhere around 10 dishes. It was overkill but soooo good and I still dream about the food to this day. I highly recommend getting anything with seafood in it. They're right next to the ocean and all their seafood tastes super fresh and so juicy. My favorite dishes of the night were the Penang seafood curry that comes in a delightful coconut shell, the Satay skewers, the spicy beef salad/larb, and the fried prawns with fried onions and sweet/sour sauce. It was amazing! The only dish that I would say to avoid is the pad Thai. We get that a lot in America so I just wanted to see how it's done abroad. Pad Thai was fairly bland compared to everything else we had here unfortunately. Seating indoors with AC or outdoor patio area. Cute place and hope to return again one day!

We came here for a late night dinner as we had the Thai food craving. The first one we wanted to go to closed early at 8pm, so we walked a couple of blocks to arrive to this little gem. If you've always been how I used to be at Thai restaurants, ordering the safe dishes like green curry, Panang curry and the rest of the curries, Pad Thai, drunken noodles, chicken satay, then maybe you'd wanna try some other Thai stuff here, because this place is really authentic and the chef cooks good food. I highly recommend their cold appetizers such as the spicy papaya salad with salted crab and the minced pork salad. The dishes don't taste simple as they sound because of all the special Thai herbs and spices they use. As a person who has never attempted cooking Thai dishes before, how they cook always baffles me. Watch out for the Thai spicy level. I'd go with a 3 only if you just want a little bit of kick. If you can do a Thai 10, more power to you! The papaya salad with salted crab, as the name spells out, can be a bit on the salty side, so it's good if you have some white rice as a filler. The minced pork salad is to be eaten like a Chinese chicken wrap where you scoop the minced pork into the cup-shaped lettuce leaf and shove it into your mouth. The one hot dish I absolutely devoured was the stir-fried morning glory Thai style! It tastes like what a lot of HK locals would refer to 夠穫氣 which literally means "enough wok essence" Yeah it sounds so dumb... What it means is there is enough fire, heat and power to make a good stir-fry! The curries there were just okay, but definitely decent enough to fulfill your curry cravings. To wrap the meal up, how can we forget the mango sticky rice! I made my own mango sticky rice before, so I know what's good and not, and this place got it right! The rice was chewy and soft, and the coconut sauce had the right consistency and flavor. The mango would not be in season in the winter so it might taste a bit sour, but it wouldn't be their fault, so if you want a perfect mango sticky rice, order during the summer. Definitely a good spot for Thai food in Wan Chai!

Delicious and authentic thai food. Reasonably priced and nice service…read more As a thai person, this is one of my go-to Thai places in HK ... so that says a lot? There is actually another branch on stone nullah lane which is less crowded than the one next to the lee tung avenue.
