I have never in my life experienced such a disastrous medical experience than the one I've been…read moresubjected to by Acorn Vet. Five weeks ago I brought my 1 year old dog in to check out a hard lump next to her spine. The doctor (who was very kind and knowledgeable) recommended a biopsy of the lump, and warned that he had recently seen a case in which a highly aggressive cancer was removed from a young dog. He assured me that we should have the results in 10-14 days. I have since called Acorn Vet no fewer than 8 times to get the results of that biopsy. After multiple inquiries, I was told that one of the samples was lost in the mail, but assured that the other half of the lump would be sent to the lab by urgent request, and that I would definitely have results in one week. That was 12 days ago, and since then I have been given the complete run around by a staff who keeps telling me they will call me back, but fails to do so. I am worried sick about my dog and whether she does in fact have an aggressive cancer, in which case we've wasted precious weeks waiting for a completely incompetent office to get back to me. We are now in a situation in which we have no choice but to wait to see IF we ever get the results, as we no longer even have the lump sample to be tested by another vet clinic. The doctors at Acorn Vet seem just fine but if they ever recommend a biopsy, please be cautioned that results may take far longer than they quote you, and the staff will treat you like an annoyance.

I (and my doggies) have been coming here for 7 years now and would not make any other choices when it comes to vet service (2 thumbs up for Dr. Gerry!). All the doctors are foreign trained (Australia, New Zealand, S. Africa) and majority of them are non-locals. If speaking English is not your cup of tea, rest assured cause all the vet assistants are good translators. Since they have been in the business for quite some time they can get very busy - no walk-ins except emergencies. Usually early mornings and late nights are easier to secure an appointment.

After searching high and low for a pet hotel for my lovely dog, I came across Dogaroo Pet Hotel. I…read morewas skeptical at first because it was very difficult to find any information about them on the internet. I was referred to this place from a friend that is one of the biggest animal lovers I know. I called to see if there was availability, and the staff were very helpful and quick to get back to me. They were able to answer all my questions without any hesitation and also welcomed to me to take a visit before bringing my dog to them. I took a taxi as it seemed a bit challenging to get there by MTR (or maybe I was just lazy) From the outside, it seemed a bit tatty and quiet. Once i went it, I noticed a nicely lit place that looked and smelled clean. There is an area straight towards the back for dogs to play every now and then. This place also does training and are of the few places in Hong Kong to have a swimming pool for dogs. I think this is for rehabilitation purposes for injured dogs, but I may be wrong. The dogs are in their own space for the most part, and everyday, they are walked. I felt confident to leave my buddy with them while I was out of town. Be sure that your little friend has all their shots up to date as you will be expected to provide all the information along with AVID chip numbers before they are allowed to stay.

The reason why we come to the clinic in Tuen Mun is because we follow our doctor Dr. Gerry Pahl wherever he goes! Most of the time he stations here in Tuen Mun and once a while he works in Yuen Long. You may wonder what is so special about Dr. Pahl. Well he's in the business for a long time and he's been working in Hong Kong for many many years, he knows his profession very well and he does not require you and your dogs to undergo unnecessary treatments. He's very detail oriented - he explains everything to you before anything is done. And he's also a great surgeon, some cases are even referred to him by other vets. As we will be relocating back to US soon, once again we will begin our journey to search for a good vet. Hopefully we will come across someone like Dr. Pahl.

One of my bigger shocks upon moving to HK was discovering the costs associated with dog grooming…read more In San Francisco, $40-$45 USD was pretty typical for my 18kg mini Shar Pei. However, in Hong Kong I was quoted prices ranging from $500 - $700 HKD ($65 - $90 USD). Obviously, being the frugal shopper I am I chose the shop offering grooming services at the low end of the price range. So Miss Pet II it was! Sasha was a bit skittish once we walked inside, as there's usually a few very confident (ahem, assertive) dogs hanging out in the store. I believe they're the owners dogs as we walk by the shop every day and they're definitely furry fixtures! After dropping Sasha off, I returned two hours later to find the best version of my pup: fluffy, soft, and fresh-smelling, with the tidiest nails. Though I'm still adjusting to Sasha's new grooming costs, I'll continue to stick with Miss Pet II unless I find a better deal.

The shop owner is extremely friendly and I appreciate that he recognizes me and knows my "food order" so to speak. He has also been helpful in the past in trying to connect me with a dog walker when we were in a bind, which certainly is above and beyond what he would need to do. Although pet products and services tend to be more expensive in Hong Kong than they were back in Washington, DC (I wistfully remember the days of ordering giant bags of all things dog on Amazon Prime), Miss Pet is quite reasonably priced for regular types of dog food (read: not organic or fancy), particularly if you buy in bulk. The resident dogs are fun and friendly, and I always enjoy spending some time petting them if I have to wait for a minute or two. Miss Pet II is definitely my go-to shop for pet supplies in Happy Valley.
