Ap Lei Chau is still one of those places with a sleepy-town vibe (but with the recent opening of…read morethe MTR, who knows how long that'll last), so it's no surprise that there are dedicated areas for people to walk around and relax--a rarity in Hong Kong. The use of the word 'park' for this place is somewhat misleading, as you won't find open fields of grass here. Nevertheless, there are recreational and fitness facilities located within the space. The main attraction is a "Wind Tower" shaped like a fishing junk--a little homage to the history of Ap Lei Chau, which started as a fishing village. There's a viewing platform at the top of the tower, which allows for great views of the Aberdeen typhoon shelter. At night, the tower lights up, although I've never really understood why this was necessary. The park is open 24/7, so make use of the jogging trail, or just sit out and enjoy views of the harbour.

The Observation wheel is a fun ride right next to the ferry terminal. The line is kind of long but…read moremoves quickly. You get to go around the loop three times with a few strangers in the cabin but it's still a nice view. Honestly my main complaint is the windows need to be cleaned more often because it's hard to take pictures through the hazy glass. It's a good deal for 20HKD.

As a first timer for everything I've experienced on the first few days in Hong Kong riding a ferry to Hong Kong Island was nothing that I've ever experienced...hmmm well maybe visiting relative in Hiroshima at one of the islands but that was years ago so here I am with Nadine and the group to meet up with a friend from the group who has so amazingly taken us on a tour. Getting off the ferry and exiting the pier the first thing I saw is this massive Ferris wheel thing which is The Hong Kong Observations Wheel a stunning way to get a Birdseye view of the island and Victoria Harbor. Not sure of the details but what a stunning feature that I probably would've rode if given the chance...maybe on another trip perhaps! Thank you!

Located in Wan Chai, it's not the easiest pool to get to - it's a bit of a walk from the MTR, but then, nothing is really that far away Hong Kong, is it? Entry to the swimming pool is via cash or octopus card at the turnstile, at this moment it is HK$19. You also don't have to be a member of a club, or a Hong Kong resident, to enjoy using the pool. It really is totally public in the best sense of the word. The pool itself is 50m, and is fairly wide, so it has a number of lanes. At any given time, a number of these lanes may be rented out for classes, or club swimming, but there will always be a few lanes reserved for public "walk-in" swimmers. There's usually at least a fast lane and a slow lane, so you shouldn't get stuck behind some body who's technique is just a shade over drowning. Word of warning; in Hong Kong the definition of swimming fast seems to be a leisurely breaststroke. If you want to get any serious training done in a public pool, you may have to be a little bit obnoxious and swim past people, or you may be better off actually joining a club anyway. As well as the main pool, and there is a small children's training pool, and a toddler's pool. The other facilities at Morrison Hill pool are fairly rudimentary, there are two large changing rooms, one women's and one men's (obviously). They have toilet facilities and many shower cubicles with hot water, but no air conditioning, only giant fans that blast warm air around the changing rooms. If you get a sweat on when you're swimming, expect to be sweating all the way back home or to the office. The pool offers viewing facilities for competitions, and of course this can be used at any time by parents or those not wanting to swim. Also, life guards are on duty during the sessions. Working out of the swim times can be a little bit confusing, depending on cleaning days and public holidays, but the website is kept up to date, so do a quick check to make sure that you are going on a day where there is actually some swimming available. Fortunately, the pool is indoor, so there is no change in timings between Winter and Summer.

It was super clean, and the people that were there were there to swim. It was not overcrowded like you'd imagine it would be on a Sunday. There is a 50m standard pool that's covered, and a smaller outdoor pool that seemed popular with the children and families. The 50m pool goes up to 1.9m deep. The lockers, changing and shower areas are also very clean and relatively dry. Would definitely go back if I need a swim fix.

Even with a timed ticket, there was a wait and crowds of people. Ocean Park is a whole day adventure. I absolutely love riding the cable cars from one end in Aqua city to the other end in Marine World. The waiting line can get very long for the cable cars, and we were fortunate enough to have our own. What I love most about this park is how it feels like a mini Disney World, a mix of looking at animals and also having theme park rides like roller coasters and the raft ride (which you will very possibly get wet!). While my motion sickness limits me from riding theme park rides, I enjoyed the ocean park tower overlooking most of the area, offering spectacular views from the top and the different fun animal exhibits with penguins, meerkats, aquatic creatures like mini jelly fish and sea dragons. Old Hong Kong was a nice walkthrough displaying the 50s to the 70s. The antique shop fronts were beautiful to look at. Usually I would ride the cable cars back to the entrance to leave but this time I rode the Ocean Express which felt like an underwater submarine.

Ocean Park is a classic to Hong Kong. I have heard a lot about it growing up and I always have the…read morementality that everyone should visit at least once when they are in Hong Kong. I am glad we brought our young daughters, 6.5 and 5 years old, on a Thursday in November. The weather was in the mid 60s (approximately 18 degrees Celsius), so we thought it was very comfortable. We went on the carousel and some simple rides. The park was not crowded at all so there were no waits. We also checked off several exhibits: panda, red panda, sea otters, walruses, sharks, and penguins. The panda exhibit was probably the most popular and we had to wait in line for approximately 10 minutes. For food, we really enjoyed what they had to offer at the Old Hong Kong. We shared soy sauce stir-fried noodles, fried fish ball siu mai, fried chicken leg quarter, egg waffles, and iced milk tea. They are very standard, classic Hong Kong street food. I was a bit disappointed that two of the food kiosks were closed because I wanted a bowl of cold tofu pudding. We would consider revisiting when the girls are older because there are several roller coaster rides for older kids by the North and South Pole sections. A few other positive notes: The bathrooms are clean and well maintained. The MTR is super convenient.
