After a few well spent hours in the Volcano National Park we stopped by at the Ohelo Cafe to grab a quick snack/bite before our 2 hour ride back to our resort. Took a bit for them to seat us and then grab our order. We ended up ordering the Margherita pizza and it showed up about 20 minutes or so later.Tasted decent to good and did its job of taking care of our hunger. Stop by and promote a local business if you can!!

New to the area and looking forward a spot to grab a good meal we lucked out and got this beautiful dinner on Thanksgiving! Service was awesome. Food was so delicious. Highly recommend this place.

After touring the Volcanos we were starving... I had the Hamachi Kama which was a starter but worth it... fresh fish? Oh my! The hubby had the O'Helo's Bacon Cheeseburger and it was loaded with bacon and the side of roasted Yukon gold potatoes were spiced just right! Highly recommend!

We went without a reservation at 5pm since we wanted to see the lava glow. Thank goodness the host/waiter/bartender/busser could accommodate us. Only one guy running the front, 2 people in kitchen area. So you definitely need to practice PATIENCE. Make a reservation! Pros: -location if you coming to/from volcano national park - outdoor seating -delicious food -accepts cash/credit card - take out available Cons: -slow service so if you super hungry, keep driving! - short staffed so be patient

Ribs covered in a tasty gravy over mash potato's with steamed broccoli.

Cool place that has a townie feel but welcomed me like a regular. The server was everyone's best friend. She recommended where to find the cheapest gas, based on $5 a gallon I listened in. I had the ribs, not sure what I was getting but the ribs were moist and tender. It was a driving rainstorm and she checked which way you were going and advised if flooding was possible. Kinda like a good friend she genuinely cared about her customers.

Stayed in Volcano for a couple of nights and went to dinner here. Be mindful this place requires masks and showing of vaccinations cards. Great local spot we had the pizza and the salad with Tuscan wine. Loved it. Enjoy!

A great spot near the volcano for a meal. The woodfire pizza was a standout, but the burgers were good too. We really enjoyed the cozy vibe after a day walking through the park. Highly recommended.

What a find! Very friendly staff, good food, and nice prices! Patty and I enjoyed the white pizza and a few brews for lunch. Great way to get ready for Volcanoes National Park!

    Fresh tomato pasta

I tried the fresh tomato pasta and enjoyed it. I think the consensus for the group I came with was that pastas were the standout items of the ones we tried. The restaurant did seem understaffed but I can't hold that against them.

Ōhelo Cafe is a Volano café that more than deserves its five stars. I had been under the impression that it was a vegetarian / vegan restaurant and boy was I wrong. My cousin has been visiting and we didn't wanna really drive back into town and so she suggested Ōhelo. I was hesitant because of what I had heard, but I knew I could find something on the menu. Well, it does serve all kinds of food. My cousin had the most delicious Bacon Guava Burger, and I had the margarita pizza with mildly spicy Italian sausage. Both items were really really delicious especially the pizza. I'm very happy to know that there is a place close to me or I can get some inventive food that tastes great. The Good: Fairly priced delicious food in the neighborhood The Bad: you can't order burgers at dinner time. And parking can be limited unless you park in the unpaved lot next-door. Chances I'll Be Back: YES! another option in Volcano. Delicious food can't wait to try more out on the menu.

Also know you can get the similar view from the other restaurant they have literally in the room right next to this one. Well there is a sitting room in between but the same view. No pretty table clothes but the same view and the food comes from the same kitchen. Our waiter was nice and pretty timely, the food was horrible. We were a party of three and all of us had the ribeye. First off they were out of asparagus so we had wilted spinach and fennel. So overly salted and the mash potatoes, they had to come from a box!!! The bread was good but the butter was excellent, the only reason this is getting two starts was our waiter and the butter!!! Our meal for three people nothing to drink but water the three ribeyes and one dessert for our 13 year old was 229.00. I don't mind paying for dinner when it's edible but we left almost all our steak on the plates and the waiter didn't even ask why. My recommendation is have dinner at the other restaurant get the view and pay way less. If you look at my review for tonight's dinner you will see I don't leave reviews just when it's bad. We had dinner in Kona tonight at fish hopper and it was excellent service and food with an amazing view as well.

While they appear to be a casual, local, hippy establishment (and they are). The food and wait is worth every penny, (and pennies are more valuable now). The place is packed but you find a seat and listen to the laughter, singing, and sizzles from the kitchen. It's small and bundles of fruit seam to just be around everywhere. Your server gives you a menu and you think. "Oh wow! That's a bit pricy." But you're all in. Considering this place is proud of its farm to table reputation. Yes, nothing goes to waist here and it as fresh as you can possibly get. So you order and wait. And you wait, and you wait. Finally the plate arrives and it's beautiful. The truck is located off the street in a stationary position behind a chain-linked fence. "It doesn't move except during an earthquake", according to Rachel, the friendly, smiling, lovely woman who owns the business. Rachel makes all her food from scratch and her food menu changes each day, except for two main items that you can see in the images: Kalua Pork Taco Plate and African Peanut soup. My tacos were piled high with meat and the raspberry chipotle sauce on the Kalua Pork taco gave it a delicious tropical island twist. My plate consisted of one Kalua pork taco and one chicken taco that was covered in a pineapple chutney that I loved. The Hapa rice (a mixture of white and brown rice) was provided with Rachel's "Awesome Sauce". I mixed the Awesome Sauce into the rice and loved every bite. I also bought the African Peanut soup and let my brother-in-law taste it before me. He took his first spoonful, looked at me and said, "wow!". He took four more spoonfuls and followed each one with another "wow!". I brought a second portion home and everyone who tried it, including me, had the same "wow" reaction. Without hesitation, I suggest you try the taco plate and peanut soup (unless you have a peanut allergy). If you are not a fan of cilantro, let Rachel know since some items have cilantro on (or in) them. Since this is a food truck, and the 4 to 6 food item menu changes daily, you never know what items will be on the menu when you visit. I think you will find something delicious no matter when you visit. My brother-in-law had the spaghetti bowl and raved about how great the sauce tasted. It was a very large portion so his wife got to taste it at home and she also said it tasted great! I also bought 3 of the four 16 ounce soups being served that day: a Thai dish called Jok with shrimp, a meatless taco soup, and a creamy chicken and mushroom soup. All were yummy as stated by all the relatives with whom I shared the soups. Lastly, I bought two limeades, one of which included a blended cucumber, adding an extra layer of flavor to the already delicious, refreshing drink. There is so much to try at Saucy Mama's that I may need to return before I head back home to the mainland. The truck is open for business only Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, so be sure to visit only on one of those three days. Did I mention that on the Yelp Top 100 Food Trucks list updated in July, 2025, Saucy Mama's was ranked 38. There are thousands of food trucks all over the United States so to be ranked 38 is quite a distinguished honor! Congratulations, Rachel!!
