The fries was normal but nothing special - to get a five they would need to add dip sauces to their menu, educate the staff about the beers and balance out the burgers a bit. It is actually an old very high-end pharmacy that has beautiful wood work and cabinetry. You will very much enjoy the ambiance, casual and well appointed. If you are looking for a local restaurant, away from the tourists, with great food this is it. There are about eight table seating twenty or so patrons. The menu is a four course fixed price menu with wine parings available. We had one person wait on us who was terrific, he explained the ingredients in every dish and brought us multiple additional courses. All of the dishes will really wonderful and beautifully plated. We didn't recognize many of the wines but each was a perfect match for the food. Don't be impatient this is a minimum two hour meal-we took almost three. But many of the locals were there before we arrived and still there when we left. Clearly this a gathering place for great food and friends!

That in and of itself should constitute ONE STAR. But, the garlic aioli substitute was actually to die for, so I'll let it slide. The burgers are fairly 'well' cooked, but it was still pretty flavorful and moist. You do get your choice of patty size. I got a medium and actually felt it was on the small side, so keep that in mind. Comes with a side "salad" which is basically a few leaves, and the fries are pretty decent as well. The hot dipping sauce that comes with the Fireball burger packs a nice punch. Overall I thought the experience was good.

I walked in on a Tuesday night and no, I was denied. The place was packed, but the friendly hostess took my name down for a reservation for the following day. So that's what to do here. Make a reservation if you can't get in because everyone wants to eat here. The following day during my reserved time, it was a much more satisfying experience since I ate here! The restaurant is located just across the pier and along Bryggen, and inside, it's decorated with old paintings and photos of Bergen and Norway with classic, wood furnishings all around. It takes you back to Bergen's former days, which is the charm of this place. Staff could not have been friendlier. Bryggeloftet & Stuene has traditional, Norwegian food. I ordered the wolffish, which was in season, and the fish came with veggies and a side of potatoes to however you want them made. And this is when I learned that the area prepares potatoes dauphinoise, which is like au gratin and was sooo delicious. My dish comprised of fresh wolffish in a lemon, dill sauce, fresh vegetables and of course, with the side of dauphinoise potatoes. But this is the kind of restaurant that no matter what you order, everything will be delicious here. Ya gotta eat at Bryggeloftet & Stuene when in Bergen.
