There are actually two restaurants in this location, a casual restaurant called Bien Bar, and a more upscale restaurant simply called Bien. The location is four stops on the tram line from the city center of Bergen and definitely worth the short ride (or by taxi). It is actually an old very high-end pharmacy that has beautiful wood work and cabinetry. You will very much enjoy the ambiance, casual and well appointed.
If you are looking for a local restaurant, away from the tourists, with great food this is it. There are about eight table seating twenty or so patrons. The menu is a four course fixed price menu with wine parings available.
We had one person wait on us who was terrific, he explained the ingredients in every dish and brought us multiple additional courses. All of the dishes will really wonderful and beautifully plated. We didn't recognize many of the wines but each was a perfect match for the food.
Don't be impatient this is a minimum two hour meal-we took almost three. But many of the locals were there before we arrived and still there when we left. Clearly this a gathering place for great food and friends! read more
