    Almond filled pastry
    Bernadette M.

It was the immature part of me that wanted to go here to snap a pic with the name. Lols I went on a Monday around 2pm. I don't know if it was just a bad day or time but there wasn't much left to choose from. My almond pastry was dry but the almond paste inside was pretty good. I know they buy leftovers from other sellers and sell it as day old pastries the next day for cheap (I paid $1) which is great! Prevent food waste! But mine tasted old and not in a good way. Such a bummer.... I would've given 2 stars but since everyone else seemed to enjoy it and had a lot to choose from, I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt bc I'm nice like that. Haha

Place is fine, machine dispense's the drinks, coffee tasted fine. Parking is not ideal at all as you'll either have to walk or park in taxi area to go in and out

Solid breakfast options, cool spot near a bunch of shops. Not quite sure what I ordered, but it tasted a bit fruity (was not chocolate)

I absolutely love the concept and vision behind this place. And not going to lie... the name is pretty funny if you don't know what it means. From the sounds of it, they sell leftover products from local bakeries at a steep discount (about 50% off). It looked like they had tons of options for bread and pastries, but I went with a salad. The salad tasted great and wasn't at all soggy. Great food, great prices, great mission - always a fan of sustainability! I wish they would bring this concept back to the US. I'm a fan!

Went for the name of course. Got a quiche which they warmed up and it was very tasty. Also got a donut / beignet like pastry filled with apricot jam (though I asked for the raspberry one). Despite the mix up, I really enjoyed the apricot. I passed on the coffee because it was just a serve yourself machine which doesn't entice me. We felt a bit rushed. There were people behind us and the staff wanted to sling pastries out quickly but otherwise were helpful.

Cute bakery. Based on the name ..how can you not check it out. Pastries ok. Sandwiches better

We couldn't pass up a place called Ass Bar lol and really glad we didn't! Waste not, want more- it's a small bakery shop with sandwiches and bakery items that are a day old. It certainly didn't taste like it. Had a sandwich (pastrami)and 2 pastries ( one was a jelly filled donut and the other looked like a Thanksgiving cornucopia filled with coconut cream)and would have gone back for more- it was awesome. Get coffee elsewhere- it's out of a machine- but go for everything else! Plus because it's a day old, super affordable!

    All the goodies!

Found this gem through yelp and boy are we glad we found it. Zurich is a pricey city, and going here for our breakfast was great way to save a little money, but still eat fantastic food. The food is one day old, but that didn't bother us. I had a chocolate stuffed croissant and my husband had a salami sandwich. We loved them both and highly recommend having Ass Bar be the first top of the day when exploring Zurich.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Decor & Style: 2/5 Went in here cause it was near the hotel and the awesome store name. Key lime pie was AMAZING, probably best i've ever had! No seating here so it's to-go only. FYI there is no seating because by law (Swiss law, probably the same for the US as well) you have to have restrooms to have seats and they don't have restrooms here.

Curry chicken toast, roast beef sammie, fried dough ball thingy. All fresh from yesterday!

With a name like Ass Bar, you might be wondering what kind of "services" you will be receiving. However, looking through the window you'll see that instead of a nice slapable bubble booty, you can get buns in the form of bread and other pastries. BUT, there's a twist! Before I explain, I'll tell you what I had... Chicken Curry Toast Fried Ball Thingy? Roast Beef Sandwich Everything above cost me 6.50 CHF causing my brows to rise in astonishment... 6.50 is what I would pay to use a toilet in Zurich - so how is this possible? Some things are better unsaid so I hastily paid and scurried my ass out of there! I merrily skipped home dreaming about fresh pastries, that were basically free, and hurried upstairs to take some photos for Yelp. After the photoshoot, I quickly shoved the chicken curry toast in my mouth in hopes to stop the grumbling and griping from my already hungry stomach. Nom nom nom.... Nom? Hmmm... it's ok but a little on the stale side... Next I popped that fried ball into my mouth and a couple of bites later.... ??? Hmmmmmmmmmm.... This also is slightly stale....... I then diverted my attention over to the picture perfect sandwich. Each layer of roast beef was placed with perfect proportion to the rest of the bread and decorative greens. I placed it next to the window seal and admired its perfection as it sparkled in the sunlight. THIS is going to be a wonderful piece of heaven, I concluded as I grabbed the buns and eagerly placed them into my already watering mouth. Nom nom nom........ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another stale piece of ass bread?!??!?!?! NOOO!!! In a blind and hungry rage, I tossed the disappointing sandwich to the side of my plate and opened up my laptop. "I'm SO going to smack this ass up with two stars on Yelp for feeding me items that tasted like they are from yesterday!!" Logging in, I noticed the high ratings and after visiting their website... it would seem that the one who is the ass is not them.......... but ME!!! Ass Bar serves fresh food from yesterday. It's their motto and had I been able to read German, I would have realized this from the sign outside. These guys are taking a green step forward to reduce daily waste from nearby bakeries to serve previous day goodies at a fraction of the price. Awwwwwwww cute!! Reading this with now large almost teary anime eyes, I'm giving them four stars! For one day-matured, it's just what you would expect and at a good price. If I'm in the area looking for a quick cheap bite, I'll be back for some more ass!!!

Great concept. So this a day old shop. They go to all the pastry shops in the area and collect and aggregate very nice selection of day old pasties. It seems to go with the Swiss ethos of eliminating waste and recycling whenever possible. Among the four of us we sampled 5-6 pasties with everyone really satisfied. And the prices are very very modest which is a much appreciated change as Switzerland can be a little on the speedy side.

As an American whom recently moved to Switzerland I had no idea what any of the desserts were and was quite amazed with how expensive everything was. Coming across this place was a huge culture saver. They take goods that the bakeries no longer can sell then sell it for cheaper. It still tastes just as amazing as if you brought a fresh pastry home and left it in the fridge for dessert that night. Walk in, see something pretty, try it and don't feel guilty. If you're looking to explore flavors come here and try it then if you like it buy the fresher (and more expensive) version later.

Two sandwiches and a plum tart for about 12 euro!
    Christine H.

We were in a hotel around the corner and found this place randomly (also, with a name like this, who wouldn't remember it?). In a land where a single McNugget costs 3X more than its American counterpart, we were relieved to find an affordable and tasty place for breakfast. Sure, the offerings are a day old -- but in many cases (see picture of plum tart) it doesn't make a difference. The concept of reselling day-old goods should be promoted everywhere! They're cash-only, but there's an ATM at the bottom of the hill (about 2 mins walk away).

Very cute cafe in the middle of Zurich. It is a great place for coffee or breakfast. We went there…read moreon a Saturday morning and it got busy very quickly. The tables are small and it may not be easy to have all your food on one of them. We had eggs (over easy) and an omelet with Latte and hot chocolate. The food was great and came out at a good pace. It was a great experience.

Yelp Review 2026 #47:…read more Cafe & Conditorei 1842 is "Zürich's oldest cafe". This place is a conditorei (has a sit down area to enjoy pastries and sweet baked treats) and not a confiserie (take away truffles and candies). They claim to have the best hot chocolate and I would have to disagree. They do have good desserts to pair with their hot chocolate. The building its in has been around since 1824. The bakery opened in 1874 but the cafe didn't actually open until March 2019 so, the name is misleading. They have indoor seating and also patio seating in front or in the back. They have smoothies, milkshakes, matcha, cold brew options, sparkling wine options, ice cream, patisserie items, and brunch food. You have 6 options for their hot (or cold) non-alcoholic chocolate: classic, with marshmallows, with whipped cream, with chili flakes, with a shot of fresh ginger, with a shot of espresso; or 4 alcoholic hot (or cold) chocolate options: rum, amaretto, Bailey's or Grand Marnier. Passion Fruit Panna Cotta: Nice balance of bitter dark chocolate and tart Passionfruit. The panna cotta was creamy and soft. Dark chocolate holding everything together. I love Passionfruit and chocolate combo. 4.5/5 Chocolate Mousse: You can't go wrong with anything chocolate in Switzerland. This has white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and cocoa nibs at the bottom. Great creamy texture. Pillowy like marshmallow. 4/5 The Classic Hot Chocolate with Whipped Cream: Underwhelming. I've had better hot chocolate somewhere else in Zürich. It's a step up from Swiss Miss. 2.5/5 The Classic Cold Chocolate with Whipped Cream: The same as what was mentioned above but the cold version which is lukewarm. 2.5/5 Service was good though.
