The Basque region and Spain in general are really more about wine than they are about beer, so to find a brewpub - and a great one, at that - was unexpected and a terrific find. There was a fruit beer with mango purée - that was my appetizer. Then I tried the Weiss-style, also delish, and an IPA. I was super hungry and over ordered, but I had a mixed meat and cheese board and patatas bravas, both of which were very tasty. Their in-house made bread was nice - crunchy crust and soft center. Definitely a little gem and worth a visit. They also have a rugby theme going, so good for all you rugby fans out there.

It's a bit of a trek from San Sebastián proper (20ish minute cab ride) but well worth it to try a meal from Chef Arbelaritz, who is well known in the region. I didn't find the menu too "out there" in terms of creativity. There's always the risk at a Michelin meal that you'll be eating 7 different colors worth of foam, but in this case familiar things like tuna tartar and quinoa made unique appearances. I wouldn't say my mind was blown but everything was certainly tasty. Our servers tended to switch off, but were very attentive. We opted to try the tasting menu, which consisted of: Tuna Tartar Spider crab and prawns ravioli Lobster, cauliflower and fennel Egg yolk, foie-gras cream and mushroom emulsion Stir-fried squid and gelatinous broth "Pelayo" style Red mullet, celeriac, and quinoa Roasted suckling pig, mashed potatos and cumin flavoured fruit compote (which I had) Roasted pigeon, liver toast and turnip filled with mushrooms (which the huband had) Macerated apricots in amarette and lemon and mint sorbet Hazelnut crocanti with hot chocolate Note! I was beyond full by the time the entrees came out, so definitely come hungry. No wine pairing was offered with the menu but they made it happen when we asked and they pretty cool about honoring our request to begin with a local Txakoli wine. With the wines, a bottle of water, tax and the two tasting menus the total was €344. Bonus points for the tooth brushing kits in the restroom!

I think the lunch reservations are 1,2,3pm. For dinner get there at 5:30 pm for 8,9,10 pm seatings. They don't come out until 6-6:15 to take your name. They only take about 20 people per seating. Fixed menu. Torta, tomatoes, peppers and steak. They bring out raw bone in ribeyes and let you choose your steak. The steak comes out seared and raw on the inside on a sizzling cast-iron skillet. You are able to cook it to your liking on the skillet as you eat this incredible steak. No frills not totally worth the experience.

They make only two tortillas a day, and getting your name on the list feels like joining a local rite of passage. Here's the twist: although the tortilla is the most famous item, it actually wasn't our favorite version in the city. It's still fun to chase, still a cool story to tell, but the real stars of the meal were the steak -- charred, juicy, perfectly salted -- and the tomatoes, which taste like they've been engineered for maximum summer. They only make 2 tortillas a day, so you have to stand in line before they open to get a reservation for a slice. Inside, it's tiny, loud, and joyful. The staff runs the place with precision and a wink, and even when it's packed shoulder‑to‑shoulder, it feels like you're exactly where you're supposed to be. Come early, come hungry, and come ready for a meal that feels like a Basque rite of passage -- tortilla hype and all.
