Fantastic! One word that is all that is required to describe this wonderful bike share service in The Magic City! I received my membership as a Christmas gift and I am having the time of my life with Zyp! Customer service is great! Especially one employee named Jamiko she's will go to any length to provide you with outstanding service! Several of the bikes have the pedal assist which is electric. I love the baskets too great for putting your coat or a package in. The seats are so easily adjustable too. I carry more own helmet which is very important. I do wish Zyp would sell a helmet for the customer to match the bike. The service is such a bargain only $75.00 a year! Also, if one is on a tight income that have a program that will provide a membership at a very low cost. So there's no excuse to not to use Birmingham's Premier Bike Service. read more

Be prepared for disapointment! Many of the bikes you see at a docking station that you think are available don't work. The Kiosk is difficult to use. Had no idea that you had to redock every 45 min. or get charged another $6 for a "day" pass then on top of that a $2 fine. Just trying to have a fun Sunday in the city.. next time bring your own bikes! read more

Card reader didn't read. Third time worked but the bike scan said :"card expired". None of the bikes worked. Walked to three locations to find working bikes. No apparent "electrical assist". ? Heavy bikes, barely working brakes. Most of the people we saw said they had tried to rent bikes with no luck for various reasons. Tried to get someone on the phone. No luck on a Saturday. Charged $150.00 deposit even though the bikes were returned in two hours. Apparently we may get the deposit back in "four business days". Hope so. Yuk read more

Not pleased at all with my first Zyp experience! Kiosk wouldn't process payment (whole system froze up) so downloaded the app. Went to unlock bike only to find that none were truly available even though app showed 6 bikes available. Drove around to 10 other kiosks and the same problem at each. So no bike but zyp gets to hold $75 and I lose $6 for a bike I never got to ride. Why would the app even show bikes available when they are being held by someone else. Very deceptive! Thanks for ruining what would have been a fun date night.... read more

I'm shocked no one has reviewed our city's newest, greatest asset! Zyp BikeShare is an initiative of REV Birmingham and enables users to rent bikes for commutes or leisure rides all around the city. Yearly membership (unlimited 45 min rides for a whole year!) is a mere $75 and day passes are $6... superb value. The bikes are super sophisticated, high tech and ridable to-boot! 25% of the fleet (I think) is electric assist... if you want the extra 'umph look for the lightning bolt on the rear fender when checking out a bike. For members, you can use the App or a key fob to unlock bikes. For day use or temp riders you are issued a RFID card at a station kiosk. Each bike has a fully adjustable seat, an indicator of speed and distance, and a readout for how much battery remains. They are a bit heavy but once you get adjusted are easy-peasy to ride. There are 40 (I think) stations around town and more coming. I own a road bike (and I am obsessed with it) but find myself using Zyp when I have family/friends in town or for impromptu rides when I am already out. All in all, Zyp has elevated the visibility of cycling in town (I've been commuting by bike for 4.5 years here and between Redemptive Cycles and Zyp there has been an astronomical increase in cyclists on our city streets... yeah!). Furthermore, if you do experience any snafus in service, the folks here are super quick to respond to emails and make it right. I brag about this new service to anyone I can and am constantly appreciative of its presence in town. I've even found myself turning the name into a verb.... "Hey! The weather is so nice out, let's Zyp to lunch Downtown" is a phrase I texted just recently. Seriously stoked about Zyp, its early success and its expanding presence in town. The instructions for the bikes needs to be displayed on the ride cards. Other than that, lots of fun. A great way to see Bham!

The bikes are clunky and heavy. They handle poorly and cannot turn sharply. They are somewhat I expensive, but the short rental duration (45 mins) means you really can't ride thru town with one. You need to be constantly preparing to return. I returned mine early and walked instead. read more

No internet connection is what customer support said although my credit card was charged. Spent 30 minutes trying to get it to work and never got the bikes unlocked. read more

This company did not live up to expectations. Once at the kiosk to ride bikes the machine didn't accept my visa card. We then proceeded to call customer service and finally got it to take our money. After our money was taken the bikes would not unlock from the bike port. Customer service told us to go down to the street to the next bike station and our cards did not work on that station either. We then asked the customer service rep to refund our money, when they told us that their offices were closed for the weekend. They responded that they would give us a call early Monday morning to correct the matter but actually I had to call them the next day because in fact I did not receive a call from them. I demanded a refund which they agreed to. Weeks have passed since and I still haven't received my funds. This is completely unprofessional and I would not recommend anyone to waste their time on a unprofessional company as this one is. read more

What a fun way to explore the city! We picked our bikes up in Avondale- paid a mere $6 each for a 24 hour reservation. The docking station had good instructions and paying was very simple. I did notice, however, that one of my credit cards was not accepted due to it not being chipped. Once my husband put his chip card in, the payment was accepted. We rode about 8 miles- from Avondale to railroad park and back around. The bike was pretty comfortable and easy to ride. We'll definitely be doing this again soon! read more
