It's the week of snow cones yall! I wish I could say amazing things but I can't. The service was not great, it seemed like we were nothing the lady. The snow cones my kid got, one pineapple, and one mango, were both yellow and neither tasted like the fruit they should, it was just yellow sugar water. I got some strawberry, coconut, vanilla that my girls ended up eating. The little bit I got was pretty darn good. This is the reason for 2 not 1 star. The location is a bit difficult to get to, I thought the road they were on was one way but this is not a problem they can fix, just beware it is 2 lanes! read more

My go-to shave ice spot in town! I tell myself I'll try more flavors but my absolute favorite is Mango with chamoy and lucas (tajin). I usually stick to flat top because the dome looks like it can get messy especially if eating in the car. Good service and they work quickly so if there is a line just be patient. First timer but not a last timer !!! We had a party of eight and everyone enjoyed their shaved ice. They offer a wide variety of flavors and a few toppings. You can get a dome top or a flat top. To me, the medium flat top is the best deal and it's the perfect size. They also offer hot Cheetos with cheese, as well as nachos. They only offer drive through so there's no parking or outdoor seating. However, just a hop and skip down the road is the San Gabriel Park which offers a lot of huge oak trees which you can throw a blanket down, BYO Chair, and they do have a few benches, a playground, and restrooms. Zydeco Ice is worthy of a bookmark and a try if you're passing through, of if you live or work near-by. read more

Yeah, you are thinking, "Who in the heck reviews a snoball stand?!" Experts... that's who. For the uninitiated, this is not the Sno-ball that you bought at the baseball field with the watery kool-aid dumped on top of crunchy ice. [Into the way-back machine...] When I was 13 years old, I worked at a shaved ice stand in Waysouth(tm), MS while the owner went water skiing and bikini chasing (the bum). The machine was a Sno-Wizard from New Orleans [Discovery learning opportunity #492: http://www.snowizard.com/inventor/ ]. Man, those machines are magic! After years of training with Tibetan monks, my technique was transcendent - pure light and energy focused into a cup of sugary sweetness. People came from nearby towns to sample these shaved ice delights. Men cried, dogs howled, women fainted. It's all in the wrist - you gotsta take it slow like Sunday morning. Spend some tiiime with the ice - you can't just dive in there like a young buck. Well, actually I have a secret. The magic was mostly in the machine... and they have one at Zydeco Ice. I didn't see it - I heard it running, I sensed its presence, and I tasted the tell tale splendor. The kids are still perfecting their technique, but it was tasty and definitely worth the stop. I like that they offer a small 8oz cup since I don't actually want 32 oz of sugar anymore. I highly recommend coconut with cream which comes in adult-colorless form. The cream seriously tastes like they had just poured milk on top. It was not sweet at all & just made the whole thing taste like pink colored milk. I'm gonna round up from 3.5 and give 4-stars. Never thought I would review a snow cone stand but here ya go. Took mom over for a light sweet treat after a day of shopping. I had to have something cold, and ice cream just did not seem like a great idea when it is sooo darn hot out there. It was a tad busy, but there was reason to be. I would say it was reasonably priced, but you don't really get that much more for a "domed" top vs the "flat" top. Definitely not 1.25 worth of extra snow cone. Anyways.... the Coconut was the best I had ever had. Smooth, light, almost like fresh snow cream. ( if yer old enough to remember making that as a kid, you know what I mean) A lot like an Italian ice, only smoother. Who knew ICE could be that smooth, and creamy!? From what I could see, they had about 4 workers inside, and quite a few cars in the drive-thru. It seemed to take a while to get our snow cones, but it was worth it. A suggestion: Perhaps a tarp or some sort of shade to stand under while waiting on snow cones, That late afternoon summer sun is a devil, and a trash can to toss empty cups and napkins.
