I was very excited to try their Ethiopian food because I don't live in west Philly anymore. They give good portions for $19 and I got the vegetable combination platter. The lentils in the mild sauce were very tasty. I was really looking forward to the collard greens and they were bland. The vegetable tibs had uncooked potatoes and one carrot. The lentils with the berbere sauce were way too spicy. I loved the injera. Our daughter, who has celiac disease, was excited to discover that Zuzu's was the only local Ethiopian restaurant that offered to make and deliver things gluten free, so we ordered dinner from there last night. The food was supposed to arrive at 7.30 pm. By 8, it hadn't come, so I called to ask why. We were told that the driver had just arrived to pick up our food, and we'd have it in five minutes. At 8.30, no food, so I called back again, and was told it had been delayed, but the driver was just leaving with it now. At 9, no food, and when I tried to call, I was sent to message. This happened for four or five further calls. Our food was never delivered, and the restaurant never followed up. Really disappointing experience. read more

Parking is a bit insane in the area, and it was a late evening during the weekday. One of the guys from some years ago still works there and pleasantly took my order. A hidden gem of the Fairmount neighborhood! The prices are the cheapest out of any of the close by pizza places. The pizza is crispy, thin and light on toppings. It is very reliable and better than Santucci's. This restaurant is interesting because they also have Ethiopian food and a variety of sandwiches and tacos as well. There's only three seats in the entire restaurant so don't plan on dining in unless it's just for a quick bite. The staff is very friendly and makes an effort to have conversation with you if you come in frequently enough. For how small the restaurant is, it is very cute inside. read more

Can't get enough of their soft, fluffy, tangy ingera and their delish selections of curries to go along with it. This place has been hit or miss so far. Prices aren't bad either. So far we have tried: - boom boom pizza- fantastic - boom boom calzone- not as much flavor, very greasy, not worth $18 - chicken blt wrap- not very good- they clearly rushed to make it, needs more flavor - zuzu burger- fantastic - boom boom chicken cheese fries good! Probably the most hit or miss place you could order from. We've maybe ordered from here 25 times since moving in a year ago? The Chicken Boom Boom Pizza (chicken strips, boom boom sauce, ranch, parsley) has been our go-to, and we've turned a couple friends onto it. It's maybe the best tasting pie you could have. Sometimes, though, it'll have no substance in the middle of the pie and a slice tastes like cardboard for the first couple bites. Today the pizza came without the sauce it's supposed to come with. Had to sauce it up myself. Sometimes it's cold by the time we pick it up (on the timeline they gave us). We've had other things that are good: Buffalo chicken calzone, onion rings, milkshakes. Some stuff not so good: their bone-in chicken wings, some of their other pizzas (steak boom boom was pretty weird). Service is spotty. Couple times had to wait a while past their estimation to get our food. When we order milkshakes, they usually don't start them up till we get to the restaurant. It's cheap, and usually it's pretty quick, and most of the time it tastes good. I don't want to stop ordering from there. But I'd say one out of three times though something goes wrong. read more

Mediocre at best. I've lived in Fairmount for approximately 3 years now and it's a hit or miss spot. Prices are fair so I will give 2 stars, but don't order and expect much. My last visit consisted of an order of hummus and two sandwiches to share with a friend. The hummus tasted store bought. It lacked substance, flavor and sadly salt. I had to doctor it up to salvage my 6.00 container. They offer pita with it - it's warm which is nice but it tastes store bought. The ratio of pita to hummus is disappointing. - would not recommend wasting your money. I asked for an ingredient swap on one of my sandwiches and that was completely disregarded - despite me waiting around patiently for my order to be completed. I can live without this place in the future. Can't say I'd recommend the place, but if you're local and in need of food in a pinch, it will possibly do. read more

Not sure what's going on these days, but I've been getting super unlucky with food orders from my usual favorites, most recently this one. My 10-piece buffalo wings looked extremely sad. First of all, they looked and tasted old (as if reused from someone else's order), but they were also tiny and chewy, as if they came from unhappy scrawny underfed teenage chickens. I almost felt bad eating them, but was mostly annoyed that I did not get my money's worth ($8.50+). The greek salad was the same size as usual, but the level of freshness wasn't. The tomato and lettuce pieces had brown spots all over them. I also ordered a cheeseburger, and found that although the quality was roughly the same as usual, the beef patties were super greasy and the "cheddar" that came with it was more like waxy orange American cheese than cheddar. The lamb kefta wrap was probably the highlight of the lot, but it was a bit small and also super oily. It was hard to tell whether the filling was beef or lamb. For $5.99, it's not super expensive, but it's also not super substantial, with only ground meat, a few strands of red onions, and some parsley. The weirdest thing about this order wasn't even the food, though. The delivery guy parked outside of my building and called me, saying I needed to go outside to the car and get it from him. In the past, Zuzu's Kitchen has typically delivered to my apartment, which is why I've always included a generous tip on top of the existing delivery fee. But the delivery guy this time even made a fuss about dropping off my food at the security desk in my building, and the whole point of me ordering delivery was because I was experiencing some leg muscle aches, making going outside a bit tough for me. Needless to say, there are too many good places for food in the city to pay extra fees to get greasy food of declining quality not get delivered to one's home. It's sad because I used to really like this place. read more

I called in at 11 am to order 6 pizza's on the SLICE app for a meeting at work. I let them know that I would like the pizza's for 12 no later than 12:15pm. I waited until 12:30 NO pizza. there are people waiting in the meeting room for this pizza so I start calling the restaurant and keep getting the voicemail. I waited until 1pm for them and still no pizza. so I decided to go pick it up and I got there around 1:25 and they tell me it will be 5 more minutes for the pizza's. once I get the pizza's back to the office they were DISGUSTING! they put a very thin layer of cheese and barley any sauce so this made the crust get very hard. I don't even want to leave them 1 star. they need to shut that place down! read more

Zuzu's Kitchen is a decent place to grab some carry-out on days when I don't have time to cook. It's primarily a take-out place but they do have a small section of window bar seating that accommodates maybe four people. I walked in and placed my order at the counter and waited and the food didn't take long to get ready. Chicken cheese fries sounded like something I had never eaten before and so I ordered them. They consisted of fries on the bottom with cheese sauce, fresh jalapenos, and breaded fried white meat chicken cut into strips and placed on top. Comfort food doing what it's supposed to do, nothing amazing but filling and satisfying. The Mahi Mahi Tacos were good but far from the best I have had. The fish was good but the rest of the toppings left something to be desired. The lettuce was refreshing but added no flavor and the pico de gallo even seemed a little bland and it's a pretty simple salsa as it is. The boom boom sauce had some spice and was a welcome addition to the tacos. Altogether, I would stop in again. The prices are good with everything under $10 except for some of the pizzas and the menu has a large variety of items. I liked what I tried without being blown away. Went here for a quick/easy after work bite and was not disappointed! I ordered a veggie burger which was very filling. You could see the peas and beans and other veggies which is always pleasing.the fries were cooked perfectly, not too hard and not undercooked. The guy at he counter was very nice and I was impressed with the inside decor considering i thought it was just another pizza joint. So, one of the many curses of having grown up in New York is that you kind of can't help being a pizza snob. And for this Brooklyn girl, I am sorry but Zuzu's plain pizzas are kind of mediocre. I'm willing to give them a shot for their pizzas with toppings, because that's where some restaurants really shine, but I would never get the margherita again, and the plain cheese is mostly interesting because of the spiciness of the sauce. The cheese isn't very flavorful and the bread is ehh, so I really hope that I'll like the veggie pizza because this is my nearest pizza spot, and the prices are pretty agreeable. Pretty much the only good thing about where I lived in Brooklyn was that there were multiple great pizza options, so now I'm spoiled. We used to live next door to this place and watched it grow into a really good pizza shop. Middle eastern influence with some great pizza, sandwiches, and wings. The guy who made the menu and started the shop sold it. Shortly after we moved to a different part of the neighborhood and would order our favorites occasionally. This was our first time ordering in a couple of months. The large specialty pizzas cost 20 plus dollars , but don't taste or weigh like one. The attached picture was once one of their flagships, but weighs as much as an elios and was overcooked like a Saturday night forget me za. All in all. If I'm gonna pay 90$ for 2 pizzas and 30 wings, I'm gonna look somewhere else first. Discovering Zuzu's was a silver lining in our COVID-19 quarantine experience. It's clearly always been a place that primarily serves takeout, so they're a well-oiled machine with long hours that we rely on now for easy online ordering and quick pickup or delivery. The staff is friendly and the menu is huge. I waited to review Zuzu's until we'd tried it a few different times for a few different meals, a la Craig Laban. The best items are the sandwiches, especially the Zuzu's chicken sandwich, and milkshakes. The pizza is decent and relatively cheap, but we plan to return to our usual pizza takeout spot now that we've given Zuzu's a try. The wings aren't great; although there are lots of interesting sauce options, the wings themselves are tiny and not super flavorful. We look forward to continuing our menu exploration and certainly will keep returning for sandwiches and milkshakes at minimum. Highly recommended to those in the neighborhood and beyond. read more

I don't know why this place has 4.5 stars. I ordered the beef tacos and 10 mild wings. As you can tell from my pics the food was just weak!! I know it's delivery food but there was barely any sauce on my wings and the tacos were nothing special. Also I provided specific instructions to the company on how to drop off my order and that was a complete disaster. The driver was lazy and acted clueless. Overall I'm not impressed with the food nor the delivery service so I will not be ordering from ZuZu again. read more

The pizza is really good here, but should probably be three stars. STAY AWAY FROM THE WINGS. Have had a few different pizzas here and they are great quality. Calzones are also really good. My friend lives directly across the street, so when we wanted to have a Girls Night In and eat a lot of food and watch a movie, Zuzu's seemed like the perfect option. And it definitely was. We walked across the street to order and waited for our food. It didn't take long at all and while waiting there, we were able to really see how important this local business is to the neighborhood. Neighborhood kids were bopping in and out, people were picking up orders, they seemed to be regulars, addressing Zu (the owner) by name. I love the little quirks of this place; there is a beautifully decorated wall with a take one, leave one book system...I'll attach a pic! I really love that small business feel and I love supporting local spots just like this one. The food was great and the service was excellent. I got a chicken cheesesteak and we split cheese fries. It is also very affordable. This spot is located next to Lorraine's in Fairmount. It's small with some seating inside, but would probably be best to take your food to go. This place has steadily been going downhill for years. After breaking a nearly 1 year fast I was at work and desperate and decided to go for it. Not only did the fries come out already soggy and steamed and the wrong type of fry (literally fresh out of their door), but the sandwich (the one thing I enjoyed from there) was just generally gross and sloppy, along with being thrown on a stale pita instead of the bread they had always used. Stopped into this little pizza and sandwich shop for lunch and everything was delicious. They have the usual stuff like pizza and burgers (which are good) but this place really shines with their special dishes (basically anything that is "Zuzu's" in the title). Zuzu's burger is incredibly juicy. Zuzu's chicken sandwich is wonderfully spicy. However the must try item has to be Zuzu's pizza (Lamb, Chickpeas, Mozzarella & Feta Cheese, with Fresh Cilantro). I've never had lamb on a pizza before but since trying it I can't believe it took me this long. Absolutely fantastic! If you're in the area it is well worth your time to stop in for a slice. Besides excellent food the staff were friendly and helpful. The whole place was also really clean. This is definitely a place where they really care about the quality of the food and making their customers happy. They haven't been open that long but I really feel like this is going to become one of those neighborhood fixtures that everyone needs to visit. read more

Not a sit down joint - they do have some counter service, but I always ordered takeout. They were always prompt on the delivery or the pick up time. Lots of menu options (HUGE - wide variety of sandwiches) and is reflective of mediterranean cuisine. Lots of spices & flavors, and great combos with meats & vegetables. Their speciality pizza is FIRE - comes with lamb, chickpeas and a spicy sauce. This is my favorite thing to get here.
