3.5 Stars Absolutely…read morelovely and chock-full of country charm, but still with modern conveniences. One thing I've noticed with European hotels, air conditioning does not come standard. However, that doesn't really diminish the hotel experience because the air is already cool and with open windows (no bugs!), A/C is not necessary. The bedroom was fairly large. Though the single beds were pushed together, they came with single-sized comforters. The room also contained two bedside tables, a writing desk and chair, a sofa, and a closet. The bathroom was good-sized too, however the shower was pretty narrow. I don't imagine it would be very accommodating to guests with Reubenesque figures. The wifi is not consistent throughout the hotel. It can only be accessed in the dining room (though barely) and lobby. There's also a playroom for younger kids and a beautiful garden outside. A smaller mountain trail that leads to a nearby local village can also be found in the back. Breakfast is available from 7am and consists of a wide array of breads, deli meats, sausages, cheese, patê, eggs, cereal, juices, and fresh fruits. Overall, a very good variety of breakfast foods; and very well-rounded. Staff is friendly. The owner works the reception is extremely accommodating. He also lives on-site. Though, don't try to contact him after 11pm -- he, understandably, gets grumpy cos he has to wake up at 6am every morning to work. Pro-Tip: If you go out and return late at night, the night entrance is on the right-hand side entrance. It'll lead straight to the kids' playroom. There's a sign, but it's not too prominently displayed and it's in German.

The staff are very kind and nice, and I quite enjoy this place of all the other hotels we've stayed in the past week (quite a few hotels by the way, a good 6) and this is the only one that has decent sized rooms. It's comfy, and the restaurant is awesome! Delicious food. I honestly love this place, and wish I could stay longer!

June of this year (2013) my mother & I went to Weinheim, Germany to attend my cousin's wedding. We…read moredecided to stay at the Goldener Pflug based upon other reviews I had read about the hotels in the Weinheim area. I specifically was looking for a nice hotel with the traditional feel of a German Gasthaus or B&B. I would say we found that in the Goldener Pflug. The room we had was darling. Albeit dated furniture everything was clean, no dust, webs, dusts-bunnies etc. The room was nice, plenty of closet space, the bathroom was down a level but it was our private bath. Upon entering the property, you walk through a beautiful room filled with traditional décor with flowers, carved wood and a large Kachelsofen in the room. We only stayed one night to attend the wedding and reception and then we were off the next morning to visit family in the Odenwald area. We ended up sleeping way too late and missed breakfast. We had not slept for 26 hours and eventually when we did retire for the evening, I set the alarm on my iPad but had forgotten to synchronize the clock with the local time and my iPad was still on MST. We ended up sleeping past breakfast and up until 11 am, which was our checkout time. I woke up abruptly then woke my mother. I dressed & ran out of the room to apologize for over sleeping & any inconvenience we may have caused the owners. The owner seemed less than amused and clearly showed his displeasure and was curt. I guess I forgot how lacking in understanding Germans could sometimes be, albeit I am not perfect I do try to do paradigm shifts when it comes to the misfortune of other instead of being judgmental but not everyone so understanding. This would not keep me from staying at this hotel again however; I would make a greater effort not break etiquette in the future.

Like other great finds in Germany Schnitzelbank was a Yelp recommended find. Tucked into a side…read morestreet off the main drag we found our way back to this hidden gem. With only a few tables in the place you quickly make new friends and end up dining next to strangers. We originally sat with a couple of local Germans and after they left a musician from the local college joined for her meal. Great schnitzel options here and true charm stood out for us. Would highly recommend this place to others in Heidelberg.

The weather was beautiful for sitting outside. I wish I had gotten our server's name because he was outstanding. Friendly, witty, and willing to help navigate the menu - he made our dining experience even better. We started with a couple of local wines that were amazing - a red and a rosé. Some bread and butter came to our table with our escargot starter and side salad. The bread and starter were delicious. Our snails were hot and garlicky with plenty of juice to sop up. The side salad was also very tasty and fresh. For our mains I went with the Schnitzelbank Platter and my lady went with the Pepper Schnitzel. My platter came with a local delicacy called saumagen, as well as roasted pork, sausage, roasted potatoes, and sauerkraut. The saumagen was the highlight for me. Our server was also excited we got it. It is a local offering consisting of various meats and other items wrapped up in a stomach and served as a loaf-style meat. The pepper schnitzel was also outstanding - the sauce was indeed peppery, but it didn't smother the schnitzel, which was breaded nicely and not dry, as some schnitzels can be. And after all that food, still, an apple strudel. This was so worth it. I don't even like sweets in the USA, but in Europe, they are something else. This was something else. We had a lot of great meals on our trip, but this was probably the best. Not just for the food, but for the overall experience, it's easy to see why this is the shining star in Heidelberg.
