It is an older house that is now used as the restaurant and bar. So the rooms are small and so not many tables. But the food and drinks make this a good stop. The only person working was a nice young man who we found out was the only son of the owners. His English was fine and he seemed truest interested in our opinion of their products.

My wife and I found this place on Yelp while driving along the Rhein one afternoon. We were looking for a good lunch spot and decided to check this place out. We parked along the main road as it runs through town, then walked into the shopping area and made a left uphill to the restaurant. There were two other tables occupied outside on the covered patio when we arrived, so we decided to take a third table and were seated by the server. She then gave us the menus to peruse for a few minutes, and soon we had ordered the Penne Arrabiatta (extra sharf), Penne with Gorgonzola sauce, and two Pilsners. Inside the restaurant was a very pleasant smell of freshly baked pizzas, and a number of additional tables in front of a bar that separated the front of the house from the kitchen. Soon our beers and food were delivered. The pasta was piping hot with amazing sauces. Super flavorful, and excellent textures. The portions were big enough that we requested a box with the rest to go. The total was 21 Euros for everything, which was a great value, given the quantity and quality. Restaurant Zur Loreley had a great looking menu with authentic German food and great reviews to go along with it, so we decided to check it out for lunch. Like many (most?) restaurants in Germany, they have a single brewery they are linked with, so I got the pils on draft (sadly the name currently escapes me). It was very light but had a great flavor, and it served to remind me yet again how fabulous German beers are. I decided to start with a soup, and the tomato cream soup sounded wonderful. It was indeed wonderful--thick, creamy, with a nice robust flavor. It was the perfect start to the meal. I should also mention that the menus were available both in German and in English, which helped quite a bit since I don't speak German. We ordered 2 entrees for lunch. My coworker ordered a schnitzel which came covered with mushrooms and accompanied with pan fried potatoes. I decided that I was pretty hungry so ordered a 3 filet sampler that included 2 pork loin filets and a beef loin filet, served with mushrooms, pan fried potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and other veggies. The schnitzel had a great flavor, with a light fried batter outside and very tender, moist meat on the inside. It tasted amazing with the mushrooms, which were perfectly tender. The potatoes were also quite nice, with just the right texture and crisp. The 3 filets were prepared very well, again being tender and juicy and satisfying the taste buds. The mushrooms and potatoes were identical to the ones that came with the other dish, but they were equally yummy. The vegetables were also good and made for a well-rounded meal. The restaurant is attached to a hotel and was very quaint and homey inside. The service was very friendly and accommodating, particularly for 2 Americans who don't speak German. Not only was the food delicious, but the portions were quite large. They do offer smaller versions of plates if you are not so hungry, and we could see why given that we were unable to finish our food. The prices were also quite reasonable. Hotel restaurants are generally stereotyped (at least in the US) as being mediocre, but this certainly did not apply to Restaurant Zur Loreley. If you are visiting Rheinfels Castle (or just happen to be in the area), you should definitely stop by, as you will not be disappointed.

He was right, I think - The food was quite good and fresh made. The Flammkuchen was really nice for me, and everyone else liked what they got. The soup (vegetable beef or something) was particularly good. So, a fine lunch, but the thing that sets Cafe Loreley Konditorei apart is absolutely the deserts. The "cake bar" is full of some amazing looking stuff that tastes just as good as it looks. Orange-zest creme, cherry cheese cake (nom nom), all sorts of awesome. I really, really suggest it for cake. I would have given them a five instead of four - you be the judge: they've shuttle and the wait staff assured us that there is a shuttle every 15 minutes when I asked him at 5:03, using Google translate. When we done our meal and went to the info, the lady told us, shuttle ends at 5pm. My point is: I knew my German is nearly no-exist (shame on myself ...) but Google Translates isn't. ... whatever. I dislike going down very much. Ok if you wondered how did I get down - I backed down. And one lesson from this is: keep at if - for whatever you do and you'll accomplish it . The restaurant is totally worth to go, and I will return. The service is decent service - even we didn't need any more than necessary, other than the shuttle. The location is excellent: perching on a hill, I enjoyed the steep climb, up only. The foods - really good: beer dry Riesling chicken salad Flammekueche or tarte flambée .
