Good pizza and post just a block off the main walking path. They speak English. We had pizzas and a tortellini with ham.

Summary: Fantastic pasta dishes. Friendly and attentive server. Amazing smell of fresh pizza inside. Cute little restaurant with reasonable prices, good portions, and great food. My wife and I found this place on Yelp while driving along the Rhein one afternoon. We were looking for a good lunch spot and decided to check this place out. We parked along the main road as it runs through town, then walked into the shopping area and made a left uphill to the restaurant. There were two other tables occupied outside on the covered patio when we arrived, so we decided to take a third table and were seated by the server. She then gave us the menus to peruse for a few minutes, and soon we had ordered the Penne Arrabiatta (extra sharf), Penne with Gorgonzola sauce, and two Pilsners. Inside the restaurant was a very pleasant smell of freshly baked pizzas, and a number of additional tables in front of a bar that separated the front of the house from the kitchen. Soon our beers and food were delivered. The pasta was piping hot with amazing sauces. Super flavorful, and excellent textures. The portions were big enough that we requested a box with the rest to go. The total was 21 Euros for everything, which was a great value, given the quantity and quality. Just off of the main drag in St. Goar is a small locally owned pizzeria and Italian restaurant that is authentic and serves very fresh SLO food. Lovely staff, quick to seat you and take your order. Food is delicious. I ordered spaghetti bolangnese and a misto salad. All excellent with enough to take home. A great diversion from all the pigs knuckles I have been eating with lots of yummy sauces. Needed a simple meal wit fresh salad ingredients and they delivered big time. Danke ladies. You were great. Two thumbs up. read more

Unhygenic, dirty and charging for utensils taking advantage of tourists, cheating - Food was OK. not that great. Not sure what the hype is about this place. We were very unhappy that they charged us for plastic spoons and paper napkins while we dined at the restaurant. We totally understand them charging us for the take out box but charging us for plastic silverware was unacceptable. They also charged us for two waters when we only ordered one. They immediately had another "corrected" bill ready when we showed them their mistake. Extremely suspicious. The lady who was preparing our meals walked out into the dining room and we saw her scratching her butt when she was in the dining room. It was disgusting. We immediately threw the leftovers when we saw that. Taking advantage of tourists is not a right way to treat customers. Check your receipts and credit card statements. They had overcharged us by $10 on our credit card as well. read more

Very salty overall. Not a bad meal and reasonably priced for pizza. The dough is nicely chewy and well baked. The toppings seem fresh enough and sauce was good. But wow. Salt salt salt. Skip the soup. French onion was terrible. read more

Delicious! We most certainly were not expecting to have such fabulous Italian food in St. Goar. My fiancée had a wonderful pizza and I had a fantastic carbonara. Wonderful, really. Loved the coziness of the place, service was very sweet. We were afraid of getting burnt out on German food and wanted something different, we didn't end up getting burnt out on German food, but we were still so very glad to have gone here! read more

In a land where Italian restaurants are a dime a dozen, Alla Fontana was top tier of those we tried. Tucked away on a side street a half block from the main drag, it hosts a tiny patio with a few tables, and a bright, welcoming interior with white walls and tasteful decor. The woman at the next table gracefully answered our request to identify what she was eating. It was a vegetarian pasta with zucchini and peas in a light tomato sauce. All of our pasta's were delicious, and we took note that the owner, switched between English, German and French with ease. Enjoy a carafe of wine as you wait for your meal......good food takes time to prepare. read more

Baked tortellini with tomato creme sauce was absolutely amazing! My parents had spaghetti with a meat sauce that was delicious! A short walk from our hotel, we will absolutely be back. The wine was delicious as well. read more

Definitely worth checking out. Small, low-key, authentic. Server didn't speak much English (German and Italian) but there are menus in English. It's straightforward fare...plenty of pizzas, traditional pasta dishes, salads, and a kids menu. Dessert too. Note that it's cash only. I had the gorgonzola tortellini, a salad, dessert, and a small carafe of red wine for 21 Euro. Would definitely return. read more
