I've never had these cut of fries in Germany and very few places in the States. More of a peeled, corn chip shape, than a traditional fry. Great cook on them and I ate all of them! (Burp). Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

Just a cultural difference and certainly not a knock against this place. The atmosphere here was really cool and they have a nice outdoor seating area to enjoy the beautiful weather.

When I arrived, I was surprised to find it tucked away at the back of a small shopping plaza. And just my luck--the hostess informed me the kitchen had just closed. As I turned to leave, she came running after me (I suspect the boss gave the nod) and said they'd be happy to serve me anyway. That small act of kindness set the tone for the whole experience. Inside, the restaurant felt warm and cozy, with the kind of unpretentious atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home. I ordered the mixed grill platter, which included schnitzel, a meatball, and currywurst, served with potatoes and salad. The food arrived almost before I had time to open my book, and to my surprise, it was freshly made--flavorful, hearty, and absolutely satisfying. Before arriving, I wanted to see what on the menu I would eat since I don't eat any pork or red meat. Needless to say, a lot of German food is pork and red meat. I wanted to eat something that was traditional, yet also aligned with my palate. I decided to have the 1/2 with oven baked red cabbage and potato dumplings and my wife, at the suggestion of her German counterpart had a original schnitzel with fries. We both enjoyed our food and experience of having what the locals eat. The food was delicious and the service was good. At the suggestions of our German counterparts that were visiting from Hamburg and Frankfurt, we shared the apple strudel as our dessert and really liked it. It was not the same as what we think of as strudel in the United States, it was much better in my opinion. The food, service, and atmosphere made this a wonderful dining experience of culture, conversation, and cuisine. Although I don't eat pork or beef, they had a lot of other things that I would have loved to try, namely the pretzel and some of the soups.
