Fantastic local place to get some low-frills eats and beer! Very friendly staff who accommodated us…read morewithout a hitch. We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

They must have expanded as the menu seems the same and it was quite big and clean. Not a dive at…read moreall. Also they take credit cards. We tried to go to a nearby Greek place but they were full and kind of rude too. We walked over here and the place was empty at 6:30 pm so a bit worried. No need. The draft Pilsner was very excellent and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We got pork schnitzel and meatballs and it was really very tasty. Would recommend!

Great, historic restaurant and beer garden along the canal and near the park and city center…read more Great, outdoor space when the weather is right. Inside is a very traditional German restaurant. Great beers and food selection with seasonal favorites. Service was friendly and nice. It was asparagus season so there was a wide selection of seasonal asparagus dishes. Co-workers had the asparagus soup and risotto. They said that both were excellent. I had to go with my favorite, veal wienerschnitzel with a mushroom cream sauce. Came with a choice of various sides but I chose the boring French fries. The schnitzel and mushroom sauce were excellent. Chased down with a dunked beer...... life is good.

Before arriving, I wanted to see what on the menu I would eat since I don't eat any pork or red meat. Needless to say, a lot of German food is pork and red meat. I wanted to eat something that was traditional, yet also aligned with my palate. I decided to have the 1/2 with oven baked red cabbage and potato dumplings and my wife, at the suggestion of her German counterpart had a original schnitzel with fries. We both enjoyed our food and experience of having what the locals eat. The food was delicious and the service was good. At the suggestions of our German counterparts that were visiting from Hamburg and Frankfurt, we shared the apple strudel as our dessert and really liked it. It was not the same as what we think of as strudel in the United States, it was much better in my opinion. The food, service, and atmosphere made this a wonderful dining experience of culture, conversation, and cuisine. Although I don't eat pork or beef, they had a lot of other things that I would have loved to try, namely the pretzel and some of the soups.
