Why does Scranton get to have a place like Zummo's while we in Albany have to suffer without great coffee? I drove three hours to get here, and I made sure in my couple hour visit at the cafe to try as many things as realistically possible without suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. That put me at three cups of brewed coffee from their Clover machine, an espresso, and a salad. I would have enjoyed one of their chicken salad sandwiches, but they ran out of them before my lunch date arrived. Sad. But that's the price to pay for fresh food. I love love love the small batch roasted single source beans that are individually ground and brewed to order. I love love love that those same beans (at least on the day I was there) were used for espresso. I love love love that there is a cupping bar with the coffee aroma wheel on display. I love love love that this is in an old cobbler's shop, and looks like somebody's house. Honestly, this cafe doesn't quite reach the same peaks of the best coffee houses of larger cities. But dammit it is amazing that a city as small as Scranton has a place that is as good as this. Looking forward to my next three hour drive down here. read more

The biggest, best cup of coffee I've ever had (home roasted). Daily variety of home baked goods. Apple pie was deep and delicious. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and lots of room to stretch out. Free wi-fi could cause hours to slip by in this little gem. read more

We came here based on the Yelp reviews. I am so glad we came here! The cafe itself is soo spacious! There is a deeper area beyond the entrance and milk/sugar station. This cafe has a very homey, cafe-like feel. If I lived in the area, I would be a regular here in a heartbeat! I ordered a spinach, leek, & feta quiche. It was a decent portion and so tasty! I wish it was a bit warmer, but nonetheless, it was still delicious! I love quiche because it's a great way to consume some veggies! Their coffee is also pretty good! Was in town for the night and came across Zummo's. Ordered a coffee, turkey tomato quiche and a Cinnabon. The quiche was really delicious! Highly suggest. However I was disappointed by the Cinnabon, it was quite small which is unusual for a Cinnabon. I am also not a big fan of peanut butter and the Cinnabon I was given had a lot of peanut butter on it since it was on the same platter as the peanut butter Cinnabons. The space here was probably my favorite part of this place. Initially, it seems like a small, cute cafe and as you walk toward the back it opens up into another huge room! While we were here another customer told us he loves the cafe in winter because it feels like a ski lodge. I can totally see where this would be the perfect spot to spend a cozy winter day. The coffee was decent and they offer pour overs as well as regular drip. And the peanut butter rolls. Oh the peanut butter rolls. Take my word and get one. Or a few, you'll probably want more than one. We also tried an eggplant and vegetable quiche that was tasty and filling. The girls working here were not overly friendly when we stopped in, but it was also really busy and they seemed to know and acknowledge a lot of the other customers in line. read more

I chose this Cafe as my first stop on my road trip from NYC to BUF. This was an amazing place to rest relax, enjoy a drink and snack before I hit the road again. The staff was very helpful, I'm not a coffee guy but they helped me and even allowed me to sample some coffees before I made my decision. I ended up getting an Iced Nitro Coffee with some Swiss Chocolate flavor and an All Berry Scone. They also had some cute decorated Chocolate Covered Oreos. This vacation has been full of hidden vegan gems, and Zummo's kept up the trend. While not a full restaurant, this cafe has feel-good-warm-you-up-from-the-inside vegan corn chowder and fantastic warm apple cider. Close to Scranton University, this is a hot spot for studying students and locals alike. Wifi is free and the vibe is very comfortable. If you're looking for a coffee shop that is way from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Scranton, this is the place. They have an exhaustive menu of tasty pastries and sandwiches as well as a great drink line-up. I will go here when I have desk work to do during the week and I don't want to pay for the parking in Downtown Scranton. The reason I'm hesitent to rate higher is how loud the place can get. If you're going to meet a friend for a coffee or lunch, this place is a good place to go. But if you're looking to get work done, I found it not to be the best place. The main area is big but gets filled quite quickly. And the ambiance is not ideal for working either. It has some flourescent lighting that isn't ideal for me while I am working. Every time I'm in Scranton I always make it a point to visit Zummo's. This spacious cafe is just a short drive from downtown Scranton and is the perfect coffee shop to grab and go or sit with friends and stay awhile. Highlights: delicious coffee, peanut butter protein balls, pita sandwiches (they'll even offer to warm it up for you!) They change up the menu often as well which I love. Today they had mint chocolate chip doughnuts! Pro tip: Get there early on weekends especially as often most of their best things are gone by early afternoon. This is my second time here - the first time I was hanging out with friends and had a smoothie which was great. Today, I just wanted to grab an egg sandwich to go. It was not crowded at all though there was a steady stream of customers coming through - I was the 3rd on line and it seemed every order ahead of me got messed up, either a missing or incorrect item - there were actually a few people who had previously ordered before I got there who had to come back to the counter. My order was actually fine (although even though so simple took longer than it should have because of all the corrected orders ahead of me). I got a bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel which was pre-made and heated when ordered - it was very good considering it wasn't made to order. This is the best coffee I've had in Pennsylvania. In fact, it rivals (or is even better than) the coffee from the best independently owned Seattle coffee houses. I've been to Seattle twice, which deserves its reputation as the "coffee capital" of the U.S.--not at all because it's the birthplace of Starbucks, but because of the amazing independent coffee roasters. Seattle coffee is top notch.....as is Zummo's. I was overjoyed to find not only a quality local coffee roaster, but a fantastic cup of coffee within a 15 minute drive of my home. Zummo's brews coffee the way it was meant to taste. They take coffee seriously here and it shows. Zummo's lacks any of the pretentiousness and inaccessibility that coffee newbies might find in other cafes, too. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and the entire atmosphere to be very laid back...like a great coffeeshop should be. Another advantage is that the sandwiches are out of this world, especially the celebrated chicken salad pita...which thankfully is right there on the regular menu. They even make their own mozzarella on the premises. In addition to Mansour's Market and Anthology Bookstore, this is a great place to stop for lunch....but the coffee is what puts Zummo's in the category of THE place to go for lunch in the Scranton area. Don't even bother!!!! The place has obviously gone downhill from the reviews I have read on here. The girl behind the counter was beyond rude to my elderly mother & family. We all had the chicken salad & all 4 of us got sick - and it was the only thing we ate all day (since we were traveling). As we were finishing up our meal, the same girl came 15 feet from our table and shouted "closing" at us. It was 2:05pm - they stopped serving at 2pm. After moving to Scranton from San Francisco, I was in need for a good brew. The Cloverleaf coffee options here are good and I enjoy the rotating blends which are handpicked by the owner. Moving to Scranton from Miami has been a bit of a drag food-wise, but little gems like Zummo's have become a regular staple in my life. Let's talk about the food first. They're cafe menu is cantina style with at least one soup, two quiches, two sandwiches and a salad new everyday plus a regular assortment of scones, muffins, biscotti, bread pudding and sweet danishes. The regular items on the menu include are the chicken salad pita and the scones/muffins/biscotti and they are regular items for good reason. The quiches are also out of this world and a generous size is always given. I've often brought a quiche back home to my family over the holidays and even the TSA airport security always joke about snagging a piece. They also boast a wide variety of gluten-free options which can vary daily, so make sure to check out they're Facebook page for updates everyday. Of note, they actually get they're bagels shipped from New Jersey every morning instead of from National Bakery like the rest of Scranton and it definitely makes a difference. They're my boyfriend's favorite bagel in Scranton. And who can forget they're renowned chocolate chip cookies who have won best cookie in town by the local paper. During the holidays, they sell the dry mix themselves with instructions for the wet ingredients and I always try to mail my family a big jar of it. The coffee and tea selection is also great. Coffee is provided by the local roasting company Electric City and you can buy by the pound if you'd like. The menu is chalk written on a large blackboard which describes the highlights and tones of each specific coffee. You can elect to have a cup of their house which is already brewed and in a thermos, or you can try a specialty which is brewed fresh per order. The teas have a wide variety (my personal favorite is the citron green tea) and they even have a seasonal tea which is often combined with an herb from their personal garden. They also have their version of a frapaccino called a Zummie which is great for those hot summer days. Also available on the menu is a handful of fruit smoothies, however I have never tried one. It's also just a great space in general to hang out and chat with friends or hook up your computer and study. When the weather is nice, the put out chairs in their lawn so you can enjoy and bask in the summer sun. The baristas and bakers are just phenomenal and always are happy to help. They're very knowledgeable, and if you become a regular customer, they let you open a tab so you can just pay later if you forgot some cash! This comes especially handy if you just want a tea/coffee and all you have on you is a card as the card minimum is $5. TLDR; overall, highly recommend with very few negatives. read more

This is the best coffee shop in Scranton, as well as anywhere I've been. Seriously. I've been known to visit twice a day for several years. Menu items for lunch are daily specials - a soup, a quiche, a salad, a sandwich and though chicken salad is always on the menu, the bread it's on rotates daily between wrap, pita, multigrain pita, roll, croissant, etc. Baked goods are delicious and a selection of biscotti, cookies, muffins, scones, pound cake and bread pudding are almost always available. Occasionally a pie or cake is also offered. You never know what delectable items might be waiting for you, so it is best to go early and often. And of course, the coffee... simply the best coffee I've ever had the pleasure of sipping. There is always at least one truly outstanding bean on the Clover menu. (Clover is a small batch brewing system wherein coffee is produced from freshly ground beans and brewed in a matter of a minute). We're used to excellent coffee in San Francisco, but Scranton has found the secret of offering great coffee, too. No more brown water masquerading as coffee in this town! We found Zummo's on our visit to the Electric City, and yes, we'll be visiting other coffee houses in the city, but Zummo's will remain our first love. We'll return for the wonderful Clover Velvet in the mug, light and delicious scones, hamish atmosphere, and good conversation. Zummo's Cafe Moving can always be a stressful moment in life for a college student. A new town, a new school, a new life...there is a lot to process and become acclimated toward. It helps if you can find a hangout that is a bridge. Zachary transferred to Marywood University and he scoped out the town for a good coffee shop for him to connect with. He found Zummo's, and WOW, what a find it was. The place is jammed with unbelievable food. Fresh muffins, quiches, salads and sandwiches. The folks at our table had grilled turkey and cheese with bacon, signature salads with fruit and nuts, and THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICHES around on some great whole grain pita. Of course the baked and no baked snacks / sweets abounded as well. And then, the espresso. Enough said. The place is clean and feels warm and inviting. The counter and shop decor are a blend of old world cafe, progressive bakery, and shop for coffee lovers and aficianados - with all of the salable accoutrement you could desire for your home. It is peppered with old photos of the site back in the day when it was a shoe repair shop owned by two brothers. The micro-roasted coffees are wonderful. They use a fine clover brewing process. And, you can even grab beans or ground roasts to take with you as well as fan-ware and mugs. They believe in making things fresh and not skimping on quality. Portions are monstrous and the freshness is noticeably impeccable. I loved the place, the food, the feel. I wish I lived in town so I could try out the soups, and fare everyday. It'll just have to be good enough to stalk the place when visiting Zachary at Marywood University. AWESOME PLACE FOLKS. VISIT IT! Its at 916 Marion Street, Scranton, PA.
