This is my first review in a while and it pains me that I have to give my first 1-star review to…read moreThe Nest. First off, I love scary things. Scary movies, haunted houses, ghost stories, you name it, I'm all over it. I actively seek out a good scare and don't mind paying for it. Last year me and some friends took advantage of the Sunday deal and went to the Nest when it was in Avondale. It was REALLY good, and I might say that it was the best haunted house I'd been to up until then. Since it was outdoors on a huge lot, it was a lot different than most of the inside/maze houses you're used to. Tonight we drove down and I was kinda feeling the new local. The Nest is nestled in the back of Rawhide so you have to walk a little ways, but there were some photo ops/concession stands/games set up along the way. We saw the building and I was pretty excited to see what they would do with it this year. *Sidenote: there's no need to "dress up" or wear high heels to a haunted house, I promise. There were tons of girls who looked like they just came from da club* Not to ruin anything for anyone, but rather than telling the story of Jacob Kell throughout the whole thing, there were 3 "different" sections. After going through the first two, I thought "oh that was just a warm-up, they're really gonna do it big at the end". Nope. I feel that it had a lot of potential but that the actors were few and far between, there wasn't as many "cool special effects" as last year, and there wasn't really a "wow" factor. and ******SPOILER ALERT****** no chainsaw?! what haunted house doesn't have a chainsaw....c'mon Anyways, we walked out and our collective thought was "that's it?" If you're looking for a really good scare, I'd suggest looking elsewhere

I love scary things so I led the way in my group and must say I got scared a few times! I loved the costumes, the rooms, the special effects! Parking was also an extra cost, but I think if you bought your parking online it was a little bit cheaper. There was a Fear Farm merch tent and a few other tents selling food and drinks. Since we came on Wednesday, I'd say the lines weren't as bad as it may have been on the weekend. However, there were definitely a lot of missed opportunities for jump scares. While everyone in our group did get scared at least once, I thought it would be more scarier. Some of the themes were better than others. I don't think I would come back to this one. There are other haunted places to check out in the valley. I will say that the music they had playing throughout the park that evening was awesome. Not sure if it's always the same, but it was hits from the 90's!

There are 4 different themed haunted houses that are included in the general admission ticket and all the activities (corn maze, zombie shooting, etc.) are additional costs. Parking is also an additional cost which is always annoying. Overall, the haunted houses were fun but I think they could've been improved with more scare actors. The carnival themed one was my favorite but it was too short. The blood shed one was too long and barely had any decorations, it was basically just a maze. We were there for over 2 hours since there's a bit of a line to wait for each house so people are spread out.

Since you can pay to go to just one or all of the attractions, this seems fair. I'll base this review solely on my experience with The Crypt. The Crypt has nice props and F/X throughout and that's really about it. No scare factors for us hardcore Halloween & horror fans, and no thrills. It was kind of just like, oh wee... Look at the cool display. That's it. If you an 8 year old kid, or just an easily frightened person, you'll love it. However, if you're on a budget (or time schedule) and can't afford to do all of the attractions, so you're wondering which of the 3 you should pick, choose this one; it is by far the best of the 3. Located in the Fiesta Mall parking lot (which is typically a dead giveaway for impending lameness), right off of US-60 and Alma School Rd. Plenty of free parking. Go to their website for a $3 off coupon. Even if you have a Groupon, you must stand in the ticket line to get a physical ticket.

This year, it had three exhibits: A fun house, and two haunted house/corn maze installations. In the fun house, visitors are prompted to wear 3-D glasses before a jaunt through a series of obstacles, flourescent paintings, and a few actors with a great sense of timing for jumpscares. I am sympathetic to the dismay of waiting in line for much longer than you'll enjoy the event, but the other two will easily make up for this. What surprised me about the corn mazes is just how long and winding they are--you might walk a couple miles in total when you're finished exploring. The actors were absolutely thrilling, and I loved watching them heckle passerbys who thought they were too cool for a fright. Even with a substantial number of participants, there was never a bottleneck or crowd, which really lets you enjoy the atmosphere. This entire excursion was a well-managed event, absolutely worth the cost of admission. I arrived at about 7 during a weeknight, and would recommend coming early to ensure you don't get caught up in all the foot traffic. You can also pay extra for a fast pass. I look forward to returning next spooky season, and taking plenty of friends with me!

However, instead of navigating through a maze, you simply follow a set path. The place seemed pretty empty overall, except for a long line at the central haunted attraction. After waiting over 40 minutes, we decided to get fast passes. By the time we returned with them, we were already at the front of the line. I highly recommend buying the fast pass right from the start to avoid waiting in line and then deciding to buy it later--it's worth it. One house had almost no wait, and the other would have had about a 30-minute wait, but we skipped it entirely with the fast passes. I imagine it will get much more crowded as October progresses. Unfortunately, the haunted attractions weren't scary at all. I only jumped maybe three times total. I also noticed that many of the actors weren't well hidden, so I saw them before they could jump out and surprise us. For that reason, I wouldn't return, but it's probably better suited for kids. One thing that surprised me was how cool it felt outside, even though it was around 87 degrees. Being out in the open made it feel much cooler. A heads-up: the parking area was extremely muddy, even though there hadn't been any rain. Our shoes were covered in mud by the time we got back to our car. Definitely bring something to put your muddy shoes in afterward or to cover your car's floorboards. They offer snacks like kettle corn, cotton candy (though they were out of it when we were there), alcohol (beer, wine, and hard seltzers), and more substantial food like burgers, hot dogs, nachos, and chicken tenders.

You can purchase them separately and choose which or all, or you can buy one ticket for all 3. I had purchased our tickets back in September, via Groupon, which included admission to all 3; it saved us 1/2 off. The Crypt was the best of the three, by a LONG shot, but it doesn't say much. Nice props and an A for effort on the set up. Scare factor of 2, on a 1-10 scale. The Asylum was alright and had a healthy amount of fake blood throughout. What it lacked was scare factor, and by lack, I mean none. Nada. It was quite the bore, but not the worse. 1 on a 1-10 scale. The "haunted" maze was THE WORST. Seriously, the sorriest half-you-know-what attempt at a maze that I have ever been duped into. Picture an 8x10 room with plastic checkered drapes hung from the ceilings at random angles through which must push to escape said room. 10 seconds, maybe, and you're out. No props. No scares. Just those annoying plastic drapes. Everyone kept looking around, befuddled as they exited, wondering, "Is that it?!" "It can't be it. Maybe I took a wrong turn?" No buddy, you were just suckered like the rest of us. Shame on them for that HAM (hot @$$ mess). 0 on a 1-10 scale. This thing is located in a shopping mall parking lot. THAT is your biggest clue. If you're taking small children, 5-10 or 11 years old, they may receive a fright or 2. Otherwise, keep looking. With a hard eye-roll, I declare, never again.

Great location in that it's at Fiesta Mall, but tucked away. There's not a lot of parking lights in their lot, be careful you don't step on a pothole! The entire attraction takes no more than 90 minutes or so, even with long lines. The MAZE is the quickest to go thru, unless you're not good at mazes. Not terribly scary to me. We went thru the Asylum next. More scary than the MAZE, but I left laughing. The Crypt had the longest line and took the longest to get thru. Most scariest of the 3, but wasn't terribly impressed. Overall they do a good job at sensory deprivation, which is something I don't like to experience! Not sure I can foresee ever returning though, I'll probably take my $$ to something more exciting/scary/etc.

We made a reservation for a large group of 24 people and spent over $1,300 for 2 hours of play. When we first arrived, we were the only group there until a family of 3 walked in later. There were about 8 tables available, yet staff told our large group we could only use 2 tables while the building was practically empty. The biggest issue started when staff accused our group of taking another family's paintballs. Without properly checking, an employee reached directly into OUR paid paintball supply and took two full bags to give to the other group. That was completely unacceptable. Later, while our entire team was actively in a session playing, staff accused us AGAIN of taking paintballs, even though nobody from our group was even in the staging area. We paid a large amount to be there -- we were certainly not stealing anyone's paintballs. The staff also repeatedly yelled at our kids over things that were never properly explained during the safety briefing. We were told to make sure the guns had air after each round, but then the boys were yelled at for airing them without paintballs loaded. If there are specific rules, they need to be clearly communicated instead of staff immediately getting aggressive with children. One staff member in particular seemed focused only on our group, constantly yelling at our players for accidental ground shots while ignoring the exact same behavior from the other group. At one point, the employee even started arguing back and forth with one of our parents, which was extremely unprofessional. The actual paintball games were fun, and the kids enjoyed themselves, but the customer service was terrible. Staff were rude, accusatory, and unprofessional throughout the experience. Because of the way our group was treated, I would never return to this location or recommend it to others.
