I heard good things about zogsports but was pretty disappointed with my Sunday kickball league in Central Park. The first part i was disappointed was the lack of communication. We were supposed to start the game on Sunday and we didn't receive a confirmation email about our roster and start times until Thursday night around 8 pm. In addition , the league did a terrible job of balancing the rosters. There were 3 teams in our coed league and one other team consisted of free agents. We had 4 girls on our team and the other team had 8 girls on theirs. Usually this is fine but league rules has it that you need at least 3 girls to play on defense and a girl has to kick once every 4 turns. Also one of our games the ref was late over an hour. Finally , they schedule double headers so the games run late. We had to call two of our games since they were running late. One we couldn't see anything in the pitch dark so we called it for a safety issue. The other game we had to end our playoff game early. We had a chance to kick since we were bottom of the inning but zogsports referee said since the Game was running late whoever scores first wins the game. Felt like we got cheated. It doesn't help that they take 30 minutes plus to explain the rules each game. They also have happy hour deals after the game but the bars are so far away it's not feasible. read more

This is from a while ago but 5 out of 7 cornhole games were cancelled by Zog and Zog refused to refund us for this. In our correspondence with Zog, they blamed the bar that hosted the games for not communicating with them properly (cancellations were often due to the space being used by the bar for another purpose) and said that that was why we would not be refunded, as it was the fault of the bar and not Zog, calling the bar "unreliable". However, it shouldn't matter as we paid Zog for a service that we did not receive and if they have an internal issue between them and the bar, we shouldn't be the ones financially penalized. The lack of logic here is the crux of the issue. Additionally, for each cancellation we were either told at the very last minute about the cancellation, and one time we were never told at all and found out when we showed up. The games being around 9pm made this highly inconvenient. There was even a time that the ref compromised with the bar who needed the space by allowing one cornhole set out (usually there's 2) so that only half the teams could play; my team was not one of those able to play. Two of the games were cancelled due to an unavailable referee, which makes you think it's important to have one. Turns out, it's not. He wasn't even in the same room while we played (all our 2 games). I don't blame him - it would be impossible for him to keep score because there are simultaneous games. But besides coming into the room once or twice to ask how we're doing, the ref is not involved. This is fine, but then again, why are we paying the price that we are? From our 2 very expensive games, we noticed that because of the amount of people per team (6), there isn't that much game time for each person. All of these things make it hard to justify the price tag for this. read more

Careful about signing up with zogsports. I've had TWO leagues cancelled, back to back. First they will say they are delaying the league for a few weeks, and then they will say.. "so sorry, but we have to cancel the league." They just transferred me to my third league, was supposed to start this week, and once again received the "sorry, we have to delay the league" email again. Fed up after the 3rd strike, I attempted to cancel and now they will not issue a refund. I've wasted so much time on this. I should've been playing softball since April, and now it's mid-june, and have not been able to play a single game, and now they really have the nerve to not let me cancel after all of that? Incredibly poor customer service. read more

I have been playing zog sports for the last seven years with the same for a group of friends (those who have not quit at this point due to zogs lack of customer service). Prior to Covid I would have given zog corporation five stars. The prices were fair and the customer service was excellent regarding any scheduling conflicts or any problem that may have occurred. Customer service was efficient and effective and they cared! They had designated spots for happy hour for teams. Great way to meet new people! While they started games back up amid Covid prices went up and the number of games reduced while not getting T-shirts. No more bars with happy hour offers through zog. This was fine however other problems bigger than that arose, which leads to the one star. The people working for zog changed (not the same contacts as prior) and they do not care about loyal customers who have been playing for years and even supporting through a pandemic. For example, no show of referees for games with out getting a new game scheduled Or complete no-shows to games from the other team without being rescheduled Either. Zog did not reply to any email sent regarding any of the situations and actually put the no-shows as losses for our team. A friend got into a dispute with a referee (he was not keeping score and needed to be reminded about the score ) who verbally assaulted her during one game. we did get an email reply from zog and did not see him again but unfortunately she does not play with us anymore as a result. A ref from another season gave us attitude for asking him to use a score board and wouldn't allow music played so he could then take score. Ridiculous problems. The facility is new and pretty however the restrooms are always disgusting and there is no AC. During the school year basketball runs till 730pm on the dot so games do not start on time those days. The last two seasons we have signed up as casual however all the teams we have played could be classified as competitive which is another thing Zog should note to Players when they are paying for a specific league level as some do not want to get hurt while playing. I think the most infuriating part is the lack of communication from zog regarding problems on their behalf (no shows no refs etc). We are playing less games and prices are increasing so it is difficult to understand why we cannot even get an email reply. Our friends and I love playing together and it is unfortunate that zog has gone down hill and now monopolizes the Jersey City boys and girls club location because unfortunately there is nowhere else to play in Jersey City. If a new corporation that cares about their customers wants to take over for zog that would be greatly appreciated and we would pay much more. It is sad that zogs core value is about community and bringing people together however they do not follow their own philosophy. In short if you are looking to meet new people and don't really care that you are paying high prices to do so and get to play some games I recommend joining. If you are actually looking for a serious league with great customer service unfortunately this isn't it. read more

This was our first year beginning a softball league/team in NYC and our experience with ZogSports was nothing short of terrible. We played games at Central Park and if there was a slight sprinkle of rain, the games were canceled without any warning. However, our team would receive no warning, email, or a phone call letting us know the games were canceled. Our team would travel to the field only to find out we could not play on the field and the games were canceled. It was a waste of our time. When complaining and asking for some form of compensation for our multiple inconveniences throughout the season, the communication was slow and unhelpful, and they often ignored our complaints and did not settle on any conclusion that was somewhat beneficial for both parties. The communication of ZogSports is horrible and the experience was not worth the over $1,000. I would not waste your time with this league. Try Volo Sports or any other league in NYC, as I will be doing in the future. read more

Pertains to basketball: What a joke. Small gyms that 4v4 would barely be acceptable, but they have us playing 5v5. Short games. By the time you actually get warmed up the game is over. No continuation on fouls. It's nearly impossible to get an and one. It's so crowded you just get mugged every time you drive. This isn't basketball. For the cost of the league, and how long the games are this is a huge rip off. ZogSports is laughing all the way to the bank. read more

Too expensive. No trophies for the winners. No celebration. No recognition. Not even a congratulatory email. Absolute absolute waste of money. 6 games for $2,600. Six teams paid $2,600. And nothing even a trophy? Not even an open bar 1-hour happy hour at a local spot? Not even an email congratulating the winning team? Over $15,600 collected. Where does all the $$ go? Even with free tshirts (which they print themselves), field permits and umpire paid, Zog should have plenty left over to do something special for the winners. Zog sells it as if it's for charity, but i don't buy that all proceeds go to charity. Even if they do donate, they should set out an amount for the winners. I love ZogSports! The atmosphere of the teams and the community is so positive and encouraging. I have had the most fun and will definitely be participating again! This is such an amazing resource to have in NYC -- what a fun way to meet people, stay active, and do something for myself. Worst run softball league I've been a part of. Zog had their ducks in a row before COVID but the place has been run down into the ground since. In our 6-game league (+ playoffs) we played 2 actual games. There was no bus, no umpires and zero representatives from Zog present at games. We had no one to contact each week for updates and often showed up to games that were already forfeited. I regret paying them up front for the league as our team deserves our money back. I played for Zog for about 7 years now and this was the last straw. I promise I will never participate in another Zog league again. I DO NOT recommend this to anyone who wants to spend their money wisely. read more

I signed up for Zog several seasons ago thinking it would be fun to get a workout while playing a sport I did in high school. Little did I know, I'd become addicted to this league. I love the non-breathable t-shirts, post-game drinks and most of all the camaraderie. I've played a variety of sports, but my fave is definitely co-ed soccer. My team name is Footloose and I've been a loyal member for more seasons than I'd like to admit. Through the years, our team has evolved. Some teammates married, other had babies and two moved back to their beloved England, but one thing has remained the same - - to this day we play Footloose loud and proud, every time we score. Obnoxious yes, but it's a co-ed recreational soccer team so we can't take ourselves too seriously. So if you're new in town, tired of the gym, looking to meet someone or just want to re-live your youth, sign up. There are a variety of sports and levels, so no need to feel intimidated. In fact, forget the sport, you may want to brush up on your Flip Cup skillz as it seems to be the game of choice at every post-game social. I have played Zogsports for many years, but the way they are acting during the Covid crisis is outlandish. It is no fault of their own that the city canceled sports permits, but what is their fault is their refusal to refund the money that they got, insisting on forcing credits that can be used a year later. Their normal refund policy is that if you cancel within 2 weeks of the season, your team gets a full refund. They changed their policy because they decided that to hold on to the money to pay their own expenses. While I understand the need to do so, it is not the customer's responsibility, and if the customer wants their money back for a season that can't be played, it should not be Zog's choice. Meanwhile, they are still promoting other products while holding on to their customers' money. It's not right. read more

Randomly and hesitantly signed up for kickball with a friend last summer and have signed up for ZogSports literally every season since! Kickball was great to get my feet in the water and make some friends and branch out, but I wasn't the biggest fan. I like to keep active and kickball was lots of standing around so it was just not for me. Since then, I've done soccer every season, a season of volleyball, and cornhole. Great setups. For soccer there are a few refs that aren't so great, but it happens. Brett is the best, great ref and just an overall nice guy! They also put together tournaments every once in a while. For soccer, I participated in the Zog Cup (mock world cup but a one day tournament). My team got out after the first few short games but it was still a fun time and nice work Zog does putting it all together. Joined a futbol league in DC. I grew up in the slums of Iraq barefoot, and with a ball of tape. I would take the life threatening experiences of getting a glass shard shoved into my foot as I tried to kick a ball of tape rather than ever join another ZogSports soccer league. Quite honestly this was the worst sports experience I have ever had. Out of a 8 game season; we actually only played 3 out 8 of those games. With only ONE of those games actually being against an opponent rather than having to form a team of random bystanders and the referee. These people are only concerned with sales; there is absolutely no emphasis on you actually getting your moneys worth or competition. You are paying them to pretty much just use a field (if it is not double booked). But make sure you bring a ball, referee, players and a broom to clean up the fields they recommend. read more

I signed up for a softball league in Central Park and most of the games are in Riverbank State Park, which is highly inconvenient (140th St on the far West Side of Manhattan). They also have a policy of not offering refunds and didn't offer refunds during the pandemic. Their business practices are not the best. I don't recommend them. read more

This review is specific to the Queen's softball league. The competition and players are fine, the issues are with Zog. 1) There's no communication from the league. Cancellation emails aren't sent, or they're sent last minute when you're already at the field. 2) Kissena Park has no drainage, but Zog forces teams to play around a flooded infield - or they'll make you play in a grass field with bases in it, that's full of glass from broken beer bottles. 3) Umpires vary week to week, and there's no consistency in rule enforcement, leading to chaos between teams. 4) Zog is unresponsive to emails where members express issues like those listed above. They sell weekend leagues, but have nobody available via email on weekends to respond to questions about game cancellations. 5) Zog puts 19 players on one team, so you're essentially forced to keep subbing players, since you can field a maximum of 10 players. The games are 1 hour long, so you're lucky if you get to bat twice when your lineup has 19 batters. Overall the concept of the league is fine. The competition is mixed, but the fun of the league is overshadowed by the lack of concern and communication of the people who run the league. The league keeps losing more and more players as the seasons go by, and it's not a coincidence. I would not recommend playing in the Queens Softball league for Zog. read more

Overpriced play for too many players on a team. I played several seasons of indoor volleyball in zog SF and loved it. When I came out here, I hoped to do the same. I signed up to play in the Fidi league. I was informed just before the season started that there wasn't enough players in the league, so I was being moved to the East Village league. Fine, I want to play. Just as the season starts, they decide to load our team up to 10 players (only 6 can play at a time). Okay, a little annoying but I can work with it. Also, nothing I didn't expect from playing in SF. Suddenly, right as the season starts, our team jumps up to 13 players. 13 PLAYERS WHEN ONLY 6 CAN PLAY!!! I immediately asked for a refund for the league and I was turned around. Zogs argument was that their policy was that once the season starts they can only issue credits. The ridiculous part is they broke their own policy where they stated a max of 12 players per team on the site. I had to argue over several e-mails to finally get my money back. Let's not forget they cancelled my first league because of a shortage of players, then over-stacked another league. I'm sure if they asked East Village players to play in the Fidi league for more playing time, some would have agreed. What a lousy experience. *I have not tried anything besides volleyball read more

As an ex-college athlete, there was a wide selection of sports and league levels to choose from, some competitive and others more in the beer league vibe. I've been sportsing through Zog for a few years now. I signed up in my mid-twenties with a huge dilemma: do I play kickball or dodgeball? Dodgeball won out, and I've been playing ever since. I'm actually up to three leagues a week because it's so much fun. I met my girlfriend through Zog, I've met great, lifelong friends through Zog. It's a league dedicated to providing a balance between fun (and sometimes intense) competition and friendly players. Its that sweet spot that gets you right to where you want to win so bad but then can go out and grab a beer with your opponents afterwards. Over the years we've even merged opposing players into our team or built up friendly rivalries It goes beyond dodgeball though. I've played two other sports with Zog(kickball got it's turn after all), and have friends who have done still more. Everyone agrees that Zog has created an environment that allows fun to flourish. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate problems and refs are fun, fair, and entertaining. You get a real sense that they're in the business of facilitating you having fun. I often find myself counting down the days or hours until our next game, and I was never a big jock growing up. It's not just an excuse to leave your apartment in the winter. read more

All they do is make excuses and then are not attentive with anything they do. They do all of this while hiding behind their no refund policy so that allows them to push back season start dates months later then they were supposed to actually be. Communication is horrible as you can barely get in contact with anyone even going as far as to show up to games that you cant play because they never cancelled it and have no refs. This is a great co-ed sports league for anyone looking to meet new people and stay active. I've done it for a couple years now and it's pretty amazing how many friends I've met through this. They have several sports leagues going throughout the year and separate out into Competitive, Casual, and Extremely Casual Divisions. Happy hours are set up for post-game mingling and 10% of the profits are donated to charity. You can either join as an individual, w/ a group of friends, or as a whole team. I've found it's best to join w/ at least one friend so you have a buddy on the field and at the bar. The most popular sport is co-ed football. Games are played in the Spring & Fall on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Riverbank (138th and Riverside), DeWitt (54th and 11th) and Asphalt Green (90th and 1st?). The league is well-run. You play with 5 guys and 3 women at a time. One out of every three offensive plays has to involve either a girl quarterback or receiver. This is by far the best social league and the bar gets pretty crowded - depending on the bar's setup, this can often evolve/devolve into a frat-like flipcup and beer pong bacchanalia. Softball is held at those same locations as well as a few more. Lineups are usually 6 males and 4 females but tend to expand to 12 or more so everyone can hit. Fielding is limited to 10. The social scene here is a little more team-centric as there's just less volume of people at the bars. Volleyball and soccer (both indoor/outdoor) are also good if you want a balance of athletics and social. For those that aren't as interested in breaking a sweat, kickball and dodgeball are good options. They also arrange a couple trips a year - I went on a ski trip w/ them last year and it was a good time. And the people running the organization are cool and do their best to accommodate any requests. read more

I've played ZogSports 2 hand touch football for 4 seasons now. While it's well-staffed with semi-decent referees who go on occasional power trips, they mandate that one of your players either come before/after a game to ref other games. That totally ruins a whole team bonding experience if you're trying to hang out afterward. Worst idea ever. While it's nice that the money you potentially win goes to charity, and the schedule is fairly organized and legitimate, the game times are too short and the fields are too far apart and spread out. *this is only for 2-hand touch football* read more

Zogsports does not care about the safety of their players, as displayed by their unwillingness to hire certified referees that know and are able to enforce game rules. Zogsports does care about lining their own pockets, as evidenced by the following: *Their league fees are comparable to those of other competitive NYC leagues, but their unqualified refs make roughly half a licensed ref's paycheck, in some cases less. *They justify the comparable league fee by telling you that a portion of it goes to charity, but in reality a portion of the winning team's fee only is filtered through a non-profit that Zogsports owns and operates, and then is allegedly funneled through to that single team's charity. At best, they're using your artificially inflated league fee as a way to lower their taxes in order to increase their profits. At worst, maybe the SEC should take a look. Zogsports boasts about their social responsibility track record and charitable contributions, while providing unsafe games, environments, and conditions due to their lack of consumer responsibility. My advice: avoid these guys, organize a pick-up game in the park, and make your own charitable donations to your favorite charities. read more

ZogSports is good for you socially, physically, and internally (um, for your soul because, um, you're helping charity. um). It's a non-profit sports league that offers volleyball, football, dodgeball, basketball, soccer, and maybe more (check the website). Leagues are broken down into how seriously you want to take the games: casually to competitively. League fees are about 100$ for the season for an individual, and you can register as a team (a great corporate team-building activity. Try to get it expensed, too). The winner of the season gets to choose where all the fees (less whatever ZogSports takes, of course) are donated to. After every game, ZogSports arranges happy hours where you can hang with your team and your opponents. So you'll have a way to apologize to the hot chick you accidentally (?) pegged in the head. I've played on several teams, and have always registered individually or with friends. It's a great way to meet young (21-35) professionals who are friendly and cool enough to take time out of their schedules to play sports! Yargg!!! read more

Here is my run down of the sports I've played on zog kickball: super fun, but watch the start times of the games when you sign up, some can be very early, ie 5 pm which doesn't work for a lot of people. Dodgeball: the game itself is awesome but I don't like the balls they use, so I play dodgeball on another league now. NYCSSC club, which I have reviewed as well. Football: Awesome, but you have to know a little bit about football to play. It's hard work too but you always end the game with a few or 20 beers. The leagues may seem expensive but pony up and get on a league and you'll soon see why thousands of people are doing this. It's FUN read more

I played touch football with a Zog Sports team. When I heard the words "coed" my thoughts shifted to giant men with war paint on their cheeks ready to throw me to the ground. At 5'4" I'm not exactly built like a linebacker. But the Zog Sports league was laid-back and fun. What I enjoyed most was playing at a different location each week. To be honest, it's not every day that I head up to west 130th street. Well organized, competitive but fun, and best of all some good exercise and fresh air. read more

I tried Zog when I first moved to the city for kickball. I certainly had a good time with my random hodge podge of a team. Most times we barely had enough players to come which made us forfeit and go to the bar. As this league was on Saturdays it was basically the entire day spent drinking which at my age (30 at the time) I find to be a bit of a waste of a day. The teams' ages definitely skew younger (about 22-23) so it's a bit tough to relate to these younger kids. I tried looking for a soccer league to get in better running shape but have not been able to find a convenient league. The locations are terrible (Roosevelt Island??) and the times are no better. I work late some days and really have no energy during the week. It would be nice if they had the co-ed soccer league on Saturdays. I'll probably go back if the schedules and locations improve. Is it bad that I'm considering dropping a couple grad classes next semester so I can accomodate a couple Zog leagues? Joining ZogSports made my transition from Connecticut to the city so much easier last year. The league does a great job of managing this coed league and making it more about social interaction than athleticism. They have a wide variety of sports to choose from (including cornhole and bar games), and they usually pick good bars for the post-game happy hours. My suggestion: join a Friday league, since no one has an excuse to bail out of the happy hours. I'm back and forth between New Jersey and NYC leagues now, but the teams I've played on have done a good job keeping in touch, and to this day, we'll still hang out during the "offseason." I make a lot of poor life decisions, but joining ZogSports was definitely not one of them. If you're looking to meet new people, stay in shape and have an excuse to go out on a weeknight, sign up. I'm currently in the Sunday Zog indoor volleyball league. The scheduling was done very last minute (week before games start), which must be one of the reason lots of teams forfeit games and most of my teammates never show. Beyond that, the official Union Square bar is terrible. Part of the point of this league is to be social, but they chose a sit-down tourist restaurant where it's impossible to mingle or hold conversations. I've had much better social and competitive play experiences with Big City and NY Social, and I'll be re-joining them next season. Adding a star because the refs are always pretty great and the gyms are no better or worse than other leagues. read more

So far I love Zog! It's my first season playing on a team, and I signed up as an individual. I enjoy meeting new people, and this seems as good a way as any. My team-mates are friendly, although a lot of them seem to know eachother already, so it's a little bit closed off. But they don't exclude me from anything and the playing time seems fair. I'll try some other sports with Zog as well and see how it goes! It lacks one star because this past weekend our game was cancelled, and I didn't find out until I went to the gym we were playing at. And there wasn't even a formal announcement, just a hand scribbled note, without a date, and later my team-mate e-mailed us. I like things professional, I'm a bit of a snob...sorry... I joined Zog for soccer this fall, a sport I know absolutely nothing about. Thankfully, in the extremely casual league, this is not a problem! My teammates are very nice people and everyone just likes to kick the ball around and have some fun. If you're looking for more competition, there are higher levels on which to get your game on. Zog provides the teeshirts and balls, and you provide the awesome. The leagues are fairly balanced to ensure an equal number of ladies and gentleman on each team and on the field. Games are organized well in advance and everything flows smoothly. It's anywhere from $100 - 150 for a season. Seasons (in soccer at least) are seven games and playoffs. read more

This was my first season playing softball, and it was amazing. A group of my girl friends decided to join a co-ed league to try to meet some new guys. Every single one of us did. Some more than one. OK...some more than two. This is such a fun way to do something athletic and meet some new people to add to your posse. I also love that the money goes to a charity of your choice if you win. Had alot of fun during my time playing kickball with Zog in Brooklyn and then Roosevelt Island after trying a different NYC league for a few seasons. Made friends with a great group of people in the RI league that I stuck with. Unfortunately the prices have gone up way too much over the last couple of years making it not worth it for me to continue. I live on Long Island and loved coming to NYC on Sundays for this, but my team no longer plays in part due to the prices going up. Another gripe I had was the fact that when signing up, you can't select what size shirt you want. I played in the league from 2008-2017 and I will never understand why this has never been an option. It's probably a petty gripe but if part of our registration fee includes a shirt, we should at least be able to choose a size. read more
