The first time I tried Zoa was a couple years ago at a halal food festival. I finally came to their physical location. I created my own bowl with Saffron rice as my base with Lamb meat and lentils as my proteins. You can add as much toppings as you like. I chose the red cabbage, golden cauliflower and feta cheese. Finished off with the Zesty Mint Avocado Yogurt sauce. I took a pretty picture for y'all and mixed everything all together. This now is hitting! So yummy! I got their Sweet Moroccan jasmine green tea and it's just the right amount of sweet and refreshing. Me and the baby bump are happy with lunch today

Finally tried after 3 years of wondering. Boy have I missed out! I should've known when my friend told me she gets her meal prep from here. The place isn't too big so finding parking can be a headache but the food is 10x worth it. So delicious and better for you options. It's like cava with more spice! Choose what you want in a bowl or get a pita like wrap. They do have drinks and desserts but I didn't try.

I didn't know Zoa was a chain until I read some other reviews. A friend at the gym told me how much she liked this place, so naturally, I had to check it out. The setup is a bit like "Moroccan Chipotle" and I am totally here for it. The service was fast and they gave me a sample of their jasmine tea before I left. (Side note: I now get this tea every time I go because of how yummy it is. Outside of it being a touch too sweet, the flavor is to die for). Some notable mentions: The cabbage/pickled onion topping? I could probably eat this for every meal and be content. I struggle with eating chicken, but I love the flavor here. It looks like they cook it in a dutch oven, so maybe I need to start doing that. There is essentially an eggplant hummus called "Zouka" that I am loving. The only thing that I think could change is the saffron rice. I'm not sure what it is but sometimes it's a little hard and I almost wish instead of regular white-grain rice there was a different style used- like a jasmine or basmati. All-in-all though, super happy with this place and will keep coming back.

Rabat Bowl with Moroccan Mint Tea and Fatima Bread.

I've known about the Zoa Moroccan Kitchen local chain for quite some time, but finally decided to try this establishment recently. I ordered the Rabat bowl, which is vegetarian and probably named after Rabat, the capital of Morocco. I ordered rice as the base, which is a good base. While the dish tasted good, I thought the presentation was off. Everything seemed smashed together. The dish would have benefited from highlighting separate components, some greenery and less harissa aioli, which was not spicy as advertised. It seemed like the hummus and zaalouk, which tends to be redder when made more authentically, were layered on top of each other. The cucumber tomato mix didn't really add anything, but I appreciated it nonetheless. It would be nice if Zoa served this with a green chermoula. I could be mistaken, but what Zoa refers to as Fatima bread looks just like Khobz, a Moroccan bread. I thought the Moroccan mint tea was excellent, but I have seen real mint leaves in Zoa's mint tea before, so I'm guessing that's probably not a consistent ingredient for the tea. The service here was top notch and the guy at the counter was very helpful, answering questions. Overall, I would rate this location a solid 4/5. I look forward to trying other dishes at Zoa in the future.

I've had the chance to try Zoa at their other locations before, and remember loving the food, so I was super excited to try this location. Overall the food was decent. I think the portion sizes have gone down now compared to when they first opened. I recommend making your own bowl so you can customize it! Loved the cauliflower and the eggplant sides.

Build your own bowl w/beef tangine, cauliflower, beets, white beans and feta over greens. Not a fan of the beef tangine.

Ordering I ordered ahead online. I love a good "online ordering" option. Parking Parking was super easy I pulled up right in front of the door. Order Pickup The pre-orders are kept on a metal rack that's to the left of the register. Service/dog friendly The employee there was a very kind and welcoming young lady who told me they allow dogs on their patio when I asked. Great news for me since my dog was in the car and I was ready to eat onsite. Outdoor dining Their patio is nice, covered, has a fan (maybe it had two?) and looks out across Rice Ave. Food Now here's where the stars dropped. I created my own bowl. As I ordered I wavered between ordering the beef tangine and the chicken charmoula. Well I ended up getting the beef. I definitely should've got the chicken. The beef was $1 more and it was WAY too sweet. I didn't taste any other flavor but sweetness/sugar. I'm not a big fan of my savory food tasting sweet and as I ate it I quickly regretted ignoring the terms "cinnamon carrots" and "honey pepper" that were part of the beef tangine's description. I also have a slight sensitivity to sugar so the beef gave me a slight headache from eating it. I couldn't even eat it all so I left still feeling a bit hungry and dissatisfied. Oh and I also got white beans, beets, feta and cauliflower in my bowl, over greens. Where I went wrong/in summary I should probably give this restaurant 4 stars instead of 3. To be totally honest if there was a separate category, I'd probably give the beef tangine 1.5 or 2 stars. I did not like it but it's really not the restaurant's fault I mucked up my bowl. Probably shouldn't have ordered online from a place I hadn't eaten at before, particularly one that serves the food up cafeteria style and where they probably would've let me taste things before ordering. Anyway, from looking at others' reviews there are people who actually do like the tangine. But yeah, not me. I'd return to Zoa but would make sure to get the chicken charmoula next time. Loved the patio, the service and the restaurant's cleanliness. Nice location as well.

After Morocco's surprise victory in the 2022 World Cup soccer, I just checked the food. I found ZOA on Yelp. It was located between Chase bank and HEB at the corner of Bellair and Rice.  I had no idea about the food. I just picked up the menu. Just like Panda Express, I asked the server to give me what I wanted. I got a little sandwich.  $10 was a bit higher than Panda Express. It was okay. Much better than Pita wrap at JackInthebox. Zoa might have a couple of locations. You may try it for a light meal.

The kefta bowl my wife got was 3 stars. We may not know how to order this to have it come out amazing. Moroccan meatballs, greens and sauces. I tried something she saw online, a yalla breakfast sandwich with Moroccan sausage and tomato sauce.....reminded me of a calzone, it rated 5 stars. I bought a bag of whole coffee beans, ground some and they were very good. This place is owned by the same guy that has coco crepes according to the coffee bag. I take a star off if there's no roast or use by date, none.....I'll give them another try and get the breakfast sammy with eggs. May try the cappuccino too.

I was going to Starbucks across the street when I noticed ZOA. Given that it was almost noon, I figured a real meal would likely be better than just getting a latte, and so I walked over. Having never been here, the server was super helpful in describing the different bases, meats, and toppings. I got a base of couscous, with lamb and steak. The steak is very sweet, so for those who don't like sweet-savory skip it! I definitely liked the lamb way better, but they were both very good. My toppings were relish, caramelized onions, chickpeas, carrots, and the eggplant and bell pepper toppings of which I can't remember the names. Everything was really good, and even as I got super full, I couldn't stop eating The ambiance is similar to a cafe, it's small inside, but very cute, and their patio area was just perfect on a cool sunny day like today. I'm very happy to have tried ZOA and will be back! Also their Moroccan jasmine green tea is amazing!

We ain't in Queens anymore…read more For years, I've eaten on Shah's all around the borough, initially out in Ozone Park and Briarwood before finding a real audience in Sunnyside. Now that they've sufficiently blown up around NYC, I was a bit shocked (and excited) to see them finally come to H-Town. What's the verdict? It's good enough to pass muster for NY standards (#1), is open super late, and will likely be my go-to Halal food for the foreseeable future. Since I've only had it in cart form, I'm still a buggin over the fact it's become a franchise. It's similar to my shock of eating Halal Guys at a store for the first time. The digs feel as foreign (prices, large, clean and bright interior) as it does familiar (taste, logo, etc.). Even though I had a laugh seeing the wall photo-mural of a Shah's cart in Times Square, I did appreciate the nod to Ozone Park with the 121st & Liberty street signs. The chicken + lamb combo platter ($12) is and always will be the winner. The lamb had the same kind of seasoning that most Halal spots out here try to replicate but can never get right. The rice was fluffy, and the white sauce was easily the highlight. I can understand why they've decided to bottle it up and sell it as liquid gold. It makes every meal better. Kofta ($12) and chapli ($13) are rarely my favorites, but I knew I had both in platter form. The addition of adding chickpeas and these other salads is not something I'm used to from the carts (#2) but I loved the fact it was drowned in the white sauce with a dash of hot sauce. The latter is supposedly extremely hot, but I didn't find it that spicy. While I have to say the cheeseburger was a bit of a disappointment (overly bready, thin patty), the pakora chips and french fries were fabulous. They were perfectly seasoned, had a nice crisp, and frankly would be an excellent, gut-busting addition to any platter. I don't love the extra charge, but I hope they remain consistent with it. This store location in Westchase along Westheimer is an up and coming part of town. There are numerous Middle Eastern businesses in the adjacent area, along with an abundance of parking spots and a good amount of late night activity. Service was friendly but I do hope they keep their standards up. As time goes on, I'm 100% convinced this will be a destination for the many late night meal seekers and fans of NY nostaligia. __________ (#1) Which automatically supersedes a lot of the ones here in Houston. Just keeping it real. (#2) Is the chickpeas a Houston thing? Genuinely curious.

After seeing how popular the Westchase location (#1) is, I had high hopes for the second opening of…read moreLas Brasas along Bellaire just outside of Hillcroft. I've been missing my weekly Peruvian jaunts in NYC so this was as highly anticipated for me as anything. The place is clean and feels like an ideal spot for a casual meal. It looked and smells new, with brightness from the natural light, with plenty of rotisserie chickens spinning in the background. So far, everything is looking good. I ordered their claim to fame, a half pollo a la brasa, and was ready my food notalgia to kick in. My chicken, while juicy and tender, was a salt bomb. I tried coating it in the aji sauce and mixing it with the rice in hopes of enjoying it. Strangely, aji makes *everything* better (#2) but this wasn't the resolution. The fries were crispy, but the let down was real. I chalked it up to new establishment jitters. My next go-around included much more variety: chaufa chicken fried rice, a whole chicken, lomo saltado (#3), tallarin verde, ceviche, tallarin saltado, and even their anticucho kebab. Minus the chicken, which was mildly better this time, most things were bland. For the tallarin verde with bistec, I was kind of blown away at how much gristle and how tough the meat was. Once again, I drowned my chicken in their huacatay (aji verde) and it didn't make much of a difference. The lomo saltado was also mad salty and the ceviche had plenty of citrus, but was still disappointing given the price. Even the cilantro rice was dry. The food is 2 stars at best, but I'll give them 3 because the customer service, initial deals, and store location was a thumbs up. Before I could give it another shot, they went ahead and closed, albeit temporarily. I am not sure if they're going to reopen, but I hope they do. I'm not done with satisfying this Peruvian craving palate. ___________ (#1) https://www.yelp.com/biz/las-brasas-charcoal-chicken-houston-2 (#2) Without a doubt, if done properly, aji verde is one of the world's greatest sauces. (#3) The national dish of Peru and the name of my future pet.

It came with a spicy sauce that you really don't even need! It was served with white cilantro rice and some vegetarian fettuccine like noodles with onions! We had chicken wings and sweet plantains on the side! I had to ask where the food was from afterwards.. then looked them up! I saw they had a promo special.. free delivery on orders over $40 and 15% off! I ended up placing an order a week later for dinner at home.. two whole chickens with 4 sides for like $40! So much food! Chicken was what I remembered, came with the 2 sauces, I ordered sides of plantains, white rice, french fries, and the chicken fried rice! Surprisingly delicious fried rice by the way! On top of that, I ordered the Tallarin Saltado - a pasta with filet mignon! Everything was flavorful and was enough to feed us multiple nights! Probably enough food for a family of 8! Hah! It was good and I would highly recommend! Everything reheated in the air fryer is fantastic - just a tip for leftovers!

Say less (and no, I wasn't high, I swear lol). I was watching the app like a hungry hawk and the order took a little while to prepare. And then my dasher had the audacity to stop and drop someone else's food off first. Man, wtf. I was too hungry for all that. I ordered the Urban Fries with Nashville hot chicken. It came loaded with fries, white cheddar-looking mac and cheese, fried chicken pieces, and some kind of sauce over everything. Very much one of those "throw the whole kitchen sink in there" type dishes. To be fair, because of the late delivery and extra stop, I'm not judging too hard on the temperature, but thankfully it still had a little heat left. The fries were actually really good. The mac and cheese felt a little carb overkill, but that seems standard with these loaded-style dishes. The only thing I didn't love was there was a sweetness in the flavor somewhere. Maybe in the sauce but that didn't work for me. It was this weird sweet note coming through the spice that kept throwing me off. Overall though, solid late-night food for 3am lol. Thanks for satisfying my middle of the night hunger pangs. I'd probably give them another try during respectable business hours and see how it hits fresh.

The paratha was cooked great, and the achaar added a nice punch that carried the dish, overall executed well. My mom and I splitted that and the bun kabob double Patties in half so we can try both. The 10 chicken sandwich was undercooked. It was raw. I immediately told the guy and he made me a brand new one and gave my mom and I a free mango lassi. The bun kabob was good, but not the best. After I brought the food home, the burger was cooked. But he gave me the thinnest chicken Patty compared to the ones they usually give (which is pretty big or atleast bigger than the chick fila chicken patty). So I'm a bit disappointed. One the positive side, my husband has never had Bismillah before, so he loved the sandwich and the 10 sauce they use. So we may or may both return. It's up for a debate.
