There are too many other choices in this large metropolitan area for any service industry to be this rude and make a customer feel like they are imposing on them.

After recently moving to the area and looking for a great dry cleaner, I found this place. It had some good ratings and is just a few miles from my home. I finally retrieved all my winter coats out of storage and took my favorite black cashmere/wool blend maxi coat that I've had for 20 years to be cleaned and to test out the service. I walked into The Dry Cleaner and was slightly surprised how dirty and raggedy looking the receiving area was. However, I didn't let it bother me too much. My coat has a self-belt, waist pockets and neck chain. I hung the belt on the neck chain (as I always do to store or when I take to be cleaned). The tech took my order and I requested that the coat be deodorized and cleaned. She set me up in the system and gave me a ticket. She told me my coat would be ready the next day. I picked it up 2 days later. It looked okay under the plastic and initially, all I could smell was the cleaning solution. I got home and got ready to put my coat in the closet. I noticed that the coat still had a slight mildew smell and my belt was missing. I checked the pockets, sleeves and the neck. No belt. The coat also had a lot of lint all over and pilling at the neck and sleeves. I wasn't impressed with the how the coat was cleaned. I called the shop and let them know the belt was missing and still had a smell. Keep in mind; this was 15-20 minutes after I left the shop on a Friday evening. She asked what the belt looked like (black cashmere/wool, no buckle) and told me I needed to come back the next day so they could see the coat. I was unable to get to the shop on Saturday because I attended a memorial service. They are closed on Sundays (stick with me on why this matters). I went back to the shop after work on Monday evening. When the tech waited on me, I told her I was the one who called about my coat on Friday and I wanted to retrieve my belt and have the coat deodorized. She got on the phone; called someone and spoke to them for 5 minutes. After she hung up and took a deep breath, she (basically) told me since I waited more than 24 hours to bring the coat back and that there was no note on the ticket indicating a belt, they couldn't do anything for me other than look around for it. 1. They work with garments every day, when a customer tells you a 'black wool/cashmere belt' is missing from a coat they entrusted to you to care for, why do you need to see the coat to begin looking for it? Are they assuming I lied about the belt? Why would I lie about the belt? 2. As a customer, I don't know your internal policies. There is no placard or sign (visible to me) saying you have to indicate a belt on the ticket when you check in. I gave them my coat with the belt attached to the neck chain, like I've always done at the dry cleaners and told them what I wanted done. If they asked me, I would've told them there was a belt. But, it wasn't on my mind and they didn't ask. As new client, I am not aware of the company's intake process and policies. 3. Since I called within 30 minutes of retrieving my coat, I consider that well within the "24 hour" policy of notifying of any issues. I was unable to go back to the dry cleaners the next day and got back there when I got off work on Monday. The next business day (for me). Anytime the response is about policy and not customer satisfaction or resolution, you know you are not in the right place. I essentially paid $15+ to have my beloved coat half-cleaned and for them to lose my belt and to be told they couldn't do anything for me but "look around" for it. I am glad I did not bring the rest of my vintage and winter coats (I have a closet full) to be cleaned here and I will tell all my friends and neighbors NEVER to patronize this dry cleaner. They have much to learn about customer service and satisfaction.
