be very careful with am/pm. I was using Zipcar to drive for Uber which they only rent out by the day - they will charge you for a full day (24 hrs) but of course, give you the option to pay the same price for fewer hours. So I paid for 24hrs but MY MISTAKE I didn't notice that I had actually rented the car from 4pm to 4am. I woke up at 8 to a bunch of angry voicemails left at 4:52am when I was dead asleep telling me my account was on hold and a tow truck had been ordered to recover the vehicle. I called customer service and offered to return the car but they wouldn't allow it so I watched the car get snowed on for over 24 hours before they finally came and got it. Now, after an eye-watering $500 recovery fee, I'm banned from Zipcar. Zero stars, would not recommend. read more

What an abject disaster. I'd seen zipcars around before, and when I had a particular short-term need to take a high-value trip, I thought it would be worth a shot when no conventional rentals were available. Guess I should have checked the reviews. The vehicle itself had one problem after another, with AC that didn't cut it (in the dry heat of Colorado), a sound system and monitor that I somehow shut off accidentally and which wouldn't switch back on, and most disturbingly, failure to start (despite an apparently functioning battery). I waited on hold with customer service for half an hour before trying again and getting the car to start. When I tried again, it finally worked, but at that point I had no comfort level in starting the car again, which was a real problem for the hiking in the mountains I got this car to get me to. I ended up doing more of a road trip and just popping out of the car and leaving the engine on, which was a major loss for me. Adding insult to injury, this resulted in me being charged extra for mileage at the end of my trip. This level of unreliability simply is not good enough for a service like this, particularly given the cost. There cannot be a half hour wait for customer service at any time, under any circumstances. I could have been in an even worse situation than I was. And I can't remember ever having a conventional rental car that had so many issues with it. There was a lot of dust, the tires were underinflated, and clearly it needed maintenance well before my ride. The app didn't leave any clear method for me to report these circumstances, at least not until I canceled my account. They would have to beg me to get me to try another ride with them even under the lowest pressure circumstances, as only resourcefulness on my part turned anything positive out of this day of anxiety. read more

They will charge you for fraudulent parking tickets. They charged me for a ticket that was issued 10min after the vehicle left and it was a parking violation. How do you charge a parking violation 10 minutes after the vehicle left. So it was charged to a empty parking spot and I had to pay for the previous renter parking in the wrong spot. read more

Reserve less time than what you need, you can extend your trip but they won't refund you for time you don't use . I finished my trip 2 hours before the reservation ended, but they said they couldn't refund me the hours I didn't use. I haven't had a problem with customer service so far, actually one guy was really helpful when I forgot my keys in the car. However, I have yet to receive a Zipcar that was actually clean on the inside, there's always trash, gum, hair etc. on the floor/seats; so if you don't like a dirty car I would not recommend Zipcar. read more

If you have the slightest little problem, you will have the worst customer service of any company you have ever dealt with. it is absolutely better to rent a car from a legitimate rental car business or just take a Lyft. Signed up for the monthly service (you have to) to rent a car once to make an appointment. Walked 15 minutes to the location of the car and it wasn't there. Called Zipcar and the closest car was 20 minutes away. The whole reason I chose Zipcar was because of this car's proximity to me. Now I have to cancel my appointment. I want able to use Zipcar once my entire year of subscription. There were never any zip cars near/in downtown Denver when I needed them. The bus was more convenient. Zipcar is now charging me and threatening to send it to collections? I will pay because I guess that's part of the agreement in not canceling my subscription sooner. The only lesson people should take from this is to cancel subscriptions sooner. I got my Zipcar membership because of nostalgia from college and I was only going to be in this area for a year. One of the worst customer service experiences of my life. NEVER RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. I booked a rental at Denver airport two months ahead of time. Two days before I was to leave I checked their app and my reservation was gone. I called them to ask about it and was told the car was no longer there, and they had no car available. I asked them when were they going to tell me, and that this really ruined my schedule, and was unacceptable, to which I was given a $12 credit for my troubles. So then I booked a ZipCar out of downtown Denver and caught a ride from the airport to pick it up there. The car was filthy. Trash all over the floor, seats horribly stained. Nonetheless I drove it for 3 hours and returned it, getting all but one item out of the car. When I looked inside and saw that I had left a dash clip for my cell phone in it I called them up asking them if they could open the door (they can do this remotely) just for a second to retrieve the item. As I waited 15 minutes in pouring rain I was told they couldn't open it as someone else had booked it for this time. As they were 20 minutes late I asked why they couldn't just open it for all of ten seconds to allow me to retrieve the item and I was again told they could not. I never, ever plan to use this awful company again and I strongly urge others to do likewise. read more

Not only did the person who had the car before me not return the car (causing me to have to cancel my very important appointment), they were also not helpful at all when it came to me asking if there were any other cars. Let's keep in mind the closest one they had was in Erie colorado (how am I supposed to get there if they will only compensate me a 25$ Uber). I then received an email right before my pick up time, notifying me that my reservation was cancelled at the last minute for an unspecified reason. I called them and there was no other cars available. This incompetent company had no solution to a problem they created and now the customer is the only one to suffer. They then offered a refund and a pathetic amount of credit after voicing my frustrations. Thanks to Zipcar I missed an important event. Oddly enough I have never dealt with Zipcar until today, and not because I needed to rent a car...I get to my apartment for lunch break today to find someone parked in MY reserved parking spot, which I PAY for every month. It's cold and rainy outside, but I still stood outside waiting for the car to move since it had its flashers on. 15 minutes later, instead of towing them, I called Zipcar since it was marked on the vehicle. The first customer service person was nice. I gave him the tag number, he briefly put me on hold, and returned to let me know the person had been contacted and would be down to move the car immediately. 20 minutes later, I am still standing in the cold, parked in a handicap spot waiting for this dummy to move this car. I called Zipcar again to let them know I was calling a towing company. I was put on hold for nearly 20 more minutes waiting for this customer service rep to return. Finally, the idiot that can't read "reserved parking, violators will be towed" came down and saw me waiting there. I hung up on the person that still had me on hold, moved my car to my spot after asking the person not to park there again and I did that kindly, and got in the elevator. Yes, I was frustrated that someone was in my spot, but what happened next almost made me go postal. I get a call from the Zipcar Denver office from NICHOLE, who has to be the biggest B**CH I have ever encountered in my life. She basically reamed me for even the thought of having their car towed! And I quote, "Do you know how hard it is to get a car out of impound in Denver? And it costs nearly $500! And the member doesn't pay that. WE have to pay that. Couldn't you have just parked down the street and walked? I know where you are (downtown Denver) and there are PLENTY of places you could have parked. Why would you even suggest to have our car towed? And DO NOT hang up on our customer services reps again. You should have given us the chance to find the member and have it moved. That is so inconsiderate of you to do - to even suggest having it towed." Yep. That is what she said, and more. At this point I have to go back to work and I haven't even made it inside my apartment. Nichole, you have to be the most HORRIFIC customer service person I have ever encountered in my 40 years alive. I have been in sales for 18 years, and if I even THOUGHT about speaking to someone that way, I would have been fired and my reputation ruined in my industry. So, Zipcar Denver, you need to get this chic in check before she ruins what little reputation you have left. Just read the reviews here and on Google...they speak for themselves. Oh, and at the end of the call she asks me the name of the apartment building I live in. I gladly told her and she informed me that she would be calling them. What gonna call my mom and tell her I was mean? GROW UP! I hope you call my complex. Please!! Our management takes great care of us and I can guarantee they will be on my side. So would the law. Zipcar's customer service is awful. I tried signing up only for it to take 3 days to complete and that wasn't even with the time it took them to approve me. I sat on hold for an hour to see what was wrong with my approval and they told me they have no idea and were clearly reading from a script. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE ZIPCAR While Zipcar started off seemingly flawless and like a great resource (for a college student out of state with no car like me!), it only took a few weeks for me to absolutely hate this company. THE WORST COSTUMER SERVICE YOU WILL EVER EXPERIENCE. I'm serious. I'm extremely disappointed with the service I have received over the past couple of weeks. Not only was my account hacked and I was NOT notified, but when I called customer service it took over 30 minutes to even connect with anyone. The only reason I knew to call customer service in the first place was because I tried to book a car and got a message saying I need to call customer service. And then the MULTIPLE people I talked to over a couple days (because nobody would un-suspend my account) were completely useless and said that I would get an email soon so I could use my account again (because it was suspended for reasons they once again could not tell me??? Seems suspicious!). The cars are also extremely disgusting and never clean. Multiple times when I booked a car, it took me over 20 minutes to find it because previous users did not return it to the zipcar reserved parking spots. Joined ZipCar only because Enterprise Car Share left Denver (sadly). I have had nothing but problems all year long. Twice the car was not even there for pick up after reserving. I have called and complained, nothing. When I call on hold generally 15 minutes. No way to contact via email. So my year is up and I want to stop! Called and then teh "auto renew" was still in place. Today after 20 minutes on hold, called agin to cancel. They did and asked no questions, do not care at all. Horrible customer service consistently with every call. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM DO NOT JOIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!!!! I signed up with the idea (that Zipcar had given me) that it would be affordable. This was not at all the case, as there is not only a monthly fee, but every time you use a car the mileage/time you use it is very expensive. I ended up never using my Zipcar account because I couldn't afford the price to actually drive it. In addition to this, there was one time after I had had my membership open for a while (and had already validated it and entered all my information: driver's license, etc) and I went to borrow a car to get to the grocery, and the app said I needed to validate my account still! I was still being charged, and when I checked I actually had some additional charges on my card for "damages" and I never even drove a vehicle!!! At that point, I couldn't even get into my account to cancel it because it "wasn't validated" so I had to call a representative and make them close my account. I didn't even ask for my money back for the "damages" because I have dealt with companies like this before and they will never give you a refund. They just want your money and you signed something at the beginning that allows them to keep it, even if the charge is invalid. At the very least, the support person canceled my account right away, but probably only because I sounded so angry over the phone after I realized I had been charged for damages when I NEVER USED THEIR SERVICES. I am a college student struggling to put myself through school and they are still stealing from me. They are unethical and unlawful and should be boycotted. read more

It is clear that the company is far more interested in charging you late fee than helping you out when a car is dirty or not even at the spot where it is supposed to be. While the staff member we spoke to was very helpful and down to earth, we incurred several substantial fees during the rental process that were not made apparent to us. Zipcar is quite possibly the WORST company to be apart of. They do not care about how they treat their customers who pay to be a member. Customer service reps do not care how they speak to you. The car I use, located on Colorado Christian University's campus, ALWAYS reeks of weed. This smell has caused some symptoms to arise in some of my friends who ride with me and everytime we call and complain they tell us there is nothing they can do about it and if I want it fixed then I have to take it to get a car wash under the time I pay to get other stuff done. They will only reimburse me for up to $15 and they will not give me any type of credit for the extra money I had to spend to get it cleaned. WORST COMPANY EVER.
