They were pushy in granting me a loan with no discussion of repayment terms. Huge red flag

Stay Away from Mark Atalla & Carlyle Capital - Protect Yourself!…read more Do yourself a favor: Google Mark Atalla lawsuits or, better yet, visit the official website of the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov and search for his name. I'll let you form your own opinion after reading what he has done. Here's what happened to me: I paid $48,000 upfront based on a Letter of Intent (LOI), with the promise that he would fund our deal by the end of September. Not only did he fail to deliver on that promise, but he also completely ignored 10 emails from me asking for updates and instructions on how to recover my money. Instead, he made outrageous claims that we had committed fraud and that the documents we submitted were somehow "red-flagged." Well, today is November 8th, 2024, and it's been over 45 days since our contract expired. Despite multiple requests, his company has failed to produce any evidence of the supposed "fraudulent documents" or red flags. It's a blatant lie. I even went so far as to show up in person at their office in Irvine with the police, asking, "If I committed fraud, arrest me," and demanding answers on how to get my money back. What did they do? They handed me a Post-It note with the number of their attorney--no documents, no explanation, and I was not arrested. Just a complete refusal to provide any help. Mark Atalla and Carlyle Capital are now forcing me to hire an attorney and pursue legal action just to get my hard-earned money back. I highly recommend reading about how the FTC found him guilty and made him pay over $500,000 in damages. He also has another lawsuit for failing to pay a contractor over $98,000. SMH. Just a very bad business experience overall. I'm not outright calling him a scam artist or criminal, but his lawsuits, the Federal Trade Commission, and my personal experience paint a very ugly picture of this company. I would NOT recommend this company at all. STAY AWAY. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE.

I was excited to hear more about what FundMerica could provide. When Jada called me, I inquired if we had worked together previously as I received funding through a similar company last year. Jada answered my questions in yes or no quick fashion which seemed defensive and not customer service friendly. I asked if perhaps I caught her at a bad time as she seemed rushed. She asked me to elaborate and I explained how her short answers didn't make me feel that I knew much about FundMerica. She confirmed that she answered the question. At this point I advised she didn't seem too keen on having my business and that I like to feel comfortable and in good terms with companies I partner with. She said that was fine and ended the call. ...Very Disappointed to say the least. This was the Opposite of Lendzi, who communicated with me as if they wanted to do business with me. To top it off, I was going to tell Jada, well let's just move forward as again, perhaps she was having a bad day. Jada was so curt and dismissive that it confirmed for me that she and FundMerica were probably not the people I want to entrust to help me grow my business. Pretty cheap lesson to learn IMHO. I am glad I learned it before we started. Please feel free to review the call to verify the interaction.

Something told me that David was shady and we had some negative interactions, but the loan was already too far along to cancel at that point. They set up my equipment lease for quarterly payments, which I didn't know quarterly lease payments even existed. I never asked for quarterly and was not happy when I found out, but again, it was already too late by that time. I even questioned him about it, but he said something along the line that this was their typical practice. Now 6 years later, at the end of my lease I learned the real reason why they did this. I recently contacted Balboa because, per my records, I had paid 1 extra installment that I thought they had somehow misapplied. I paid "prorated rent" at the start of the lease just short of $30k, which I was told amounts to 1 full payment plus some other fees. Back in 2019, I just assumed that is was my first installment because of the timing, but 6 years later I am being told that NONE of the "prorated rent" gets applied towards the loan--it is a completely separate fee--and that the fine print allowed them to charge me a full installment and then some. So basically, I paid an additional $30k for my own machine! David was able to scam me out of 3x more money by writing my lease as quarterly than if it was written as a normal monthly lease. Even the Sales Manager who helped me look into this matter admitted that I was scammed and he was very apologetic. He said he would never have written a lease like that. He tried to see if he could get me some sort of compensation, but Balboa refused. This David White scammer is still with Balboa today and is still a supervisor.

The services provided and zero grants received doesn't not equate to the $1,500 price tag for only 3 months. Also, I was told that my grant coach would write up my business plan. I never got that business plan. I did all of the paperwork and wrote my own plan. Another important thing to mention is that fact that most grants applications require at least 6 months for processing. So why does USBFS services expire in only 3 months? It would be curious for a business that offer grant opportunities to extend the initial service for at least 6 months to 9 month. Especially for $1,500 "worth of services." That would help insure that the customers' best interests are in mind. I was also told by the supervisor 6 months after signing up that I failed at completing steps at the beginning of my grant profile and that it was my fault that I didn't get any of the potential grant opportunities I was eligible for. I sure would have thought my grant coach would have looked over my profile for corrections so that I could properly submit my profile for funding opportunities. Make your own decision on using USBFS regardless of how much they hound you about signing up. If they followed up my profile as much as they hounded me to sign up then my experience might have been worth my time and money.
