I am a recent diagnosee of Ehlers Danlos..which, if you are learning what that is or already know, its a LOT of moving parts. Even being diagnosed was a long, frustrating journey. I was finally put into the hands of an amazing cardiovascular geneticist, Dr. Kantorovich at Mount Sinai, and given information about both Ehlers and Dysautonomia - my now diagnosis.
Upon doing research, I became very flustered with the amount of precautions and adjustments I would now have in my everyday life, but also knew if I didn't start taking care of my laundry list of symptoms, it would never get better. Dr. Kantorovich guided me toward the Ehlers medical community, and gave me a list for Rheumatologists, Pain Management doctors with Ehlers knowledge and POTS rehabilitation centers. There was also one SINGLE Physical Therapist on her list - and that was my girl Meghan Mizrachi at Zion Physical Therapy.
Meghan and I have been working together for about 4 months. Now after having every part of my body fixed by her and gossiping a ridiculous amount about The Bachelor once a week, I feel so fortunate to have met a PT that genuinely cares about their client's every day success. She is one of very few that I have had that is capable of maintaining a close, trusting relationship with their clients. This is really important to someone with Ehlers, as it effects every joint in your body. Many physical therapy experiences are short-term..this is not the case for Ehlers. Your body is in constant adjustment and stress..you need someone who is going to learn about your body, know your habits, your problem areas, and your pain tolerance - that way they can successfully help you. Meghan is that, while making me stronger so I can avoid those problems in the future. I also know that I can tell Megan what is happening with my body or even how I am feeling overall (groggy, dizzy, sick) and she is able to gauge and execute a plan that is what my body needs that day. She is constantly getting me to the next level. She knows the right amount of push, which I have found to be extremely helpful to my motivation and desire to take on these new everyday adjustments. She'll tap in a little "so, you going to a dance class this week?" or a "what days can you do your PT homework?" to keep me on track and hold myself accountable.
The Jersey City location is really wonderful. It's right across the street from the PATH, so it's convenient even for me on the Upper East Side. It's inside Club Metro, which gives you access to all kinds of equipment that you wouldn't normally have in a PT office. It's a special opportunity to progress and continue work even after your appointment. This also allows for endless modifications when needed. Some of the work is done in Meghan's office and some is done in the gym's class rooms, depending what we're working on that day.
