When I questioned the bill, was given a receipt with a list of random prices he typed in. He got incredibly aggressive and threatening when questioned, in front of my child and mother. And had the nerve to say he Undercharged and told me to pay MORE!!! Felt little choice as he was so threatening and didn't want to get into an altercation in front of my family. Be warned! He should have his license removed. I've lodged a complaint with the fair trade commission so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I spoke with others who have told me that my experience is not unique. What a horrible person!

On the corner of Wairoa Avenue, this unassuming diner sits further enough back from the beach and Bondi's busy bars that it doesn't typically have hoards of people walking through the doors. This lack of patronage I initially took to be an indication of local's disapproval - a recent visit disproving this theory altogether. For $14, I ordered the unexpectedly massive falafel plate - five of them, plus the sauce of your choice (I went for a rich tomato puree) along with three salads (I ended up with the roast eggplant, tabouleh and cucumber and tomato options). They even gave me a little pot of tahini upon insistence. The restaurant space is pretty big considering the tiny counter from which to order, and is rarely populated in full, while the fluoro lighting doesn't do much in the way of ambience. Dismiss these minor points, and you're in for a deliciously affordable meal, Israeli style.

This seems to attract smokers, and I think there's a hookah going on sometimes too. The interior restaurant may suffer from this, however. As a rather self-righteous ex-smoker, this would drive me mad on any potential repeat visits, but I think there's interior courtyard seating too out the back, so maybe that would be an escape. Then again, maybe it would just be more smoking section... The service is pleasant and friendly, the waitress was happy to offer us explanations of their traditional Lebanese dishes and made some introductory suggestions, which I never mind at a new restaurant or new cuisine. I have had food like this before under other labels but the Lebanese spin seems to be unique added spices and ingredients, like pomegranate seeds in the side salad, and a distinctive pita-like bread with thinner texture but equally delicious and perfect for dipping. The kebabs were tender and the side dips were garlicky and yummy. All in all a cute new place which I recommend trying, especially since there's not many restaurants with similar Middle-eastern cuisine in the immediate vicinity.

A per usual we order more food then we needed but it was all so good. The hummus and chicken skewers were to die for! The food came out in a good flow and the table was cleared promptly, the staff were friendly. Although they are fully licensed 4 stars for not having a cocktail menu and when ordering getting a "oh that's complicated" laugh from staff. Biggest tip call in before showing up and order small first, food comes out quick so don't worry.

An Aladdin's lair full of various delicacies and delights to astound one's senses solicited us from all sides, but we were ultimately seduced by Sabbaba. And what a treasure trove we found... Open-says-a-me! This place is crazy good. I'd have gone close to giving it 5-star even without the $6 pricetag, but that sort of deal for a chock-a-block pita lunch AND a bottle of water in Sydney is insane. How insane? Albino bat guano insane --- Shikaka! How to Sabbaba (the pita pocket dealio): - You rock up and order your Pita & filling (falafel, meat, fish or haloumi). - Next you choose your style (south american, tunisian cancun, algerian, ayia napa, tel aviv, south african, larnaca, koh samui and of course sabbaba). - You find somewhere to fit (and sit) in the lunchtime throng. - You open the box, pulp fiction style, and stuff your face with that middle eastern street goodness! I went with the Falafel pita done South American style and it was flippin' amazin'. Red roasted capsicum falafel balls, village salad, salsa, jalapenos, olives, red chilli, green chilli and cheese - I'm still salivating...

We had also missed the dinner hour. Walking through the Curso, it became clear that at the ripe young hour of 10:10, we weren't easily going to be able to find an open kitchen. Even the Steyne had closed the restaurant. Tucked right around the corner, a beacon of openness glowed it's florescent lights in our direction. Sar Bar Kebab, it is. I ordered a regular chicken kebab (sans cheese) with hummus and chilli sauce. The worker's fast fingers threw my dinner together with ease and familiarity. 5 minutes and $6 later (each, of course), we were out the door with our take away dinner. Across the street on the Manly Beach steps, we chowed down. It could have been the hunger (exaggerated by large volume beer consumption), but that kebab was absolutely delicious and totally hit the spot. As I worked my way down to the bottom of my foil lined bag, I felt pretty darn satisfied.

The BBQ sauce on farfel was interesting but I'd probably try a different flavor next time. I recommend giving this place a try!

Its pint sized interior is deceiving though, for there is nothing but big heart and ample options for a delicious feed on the hoof. Surely, there can be fewer nobler challenges than trying each and every signature Sabbaba pita roll over a period of time. Such is the allure for a falafel lover of the sight of 20 odd different types of falafels, each inspired by a place. The Tunisian is an absolute winner especially if you're a fan of chilli, sweet potato and babaganoush. Sabbaba Bondi Junction is welcoming, warm and maintains that slightly hip feel of its bigger Bondi Beach sibling. There is always a funky tune on the go and some friendly faces to help you out. It's the kind of place where you could easily lose a few hours reading a newspaper or playing a game of backgammon - if you manage to grab one of the few available seats.
