I think a four-star review is fair based on my recent experience with Zinke's. My family has been going there since their earlier days in Pasadena on Colorado, so I trusted the name and didn't do much research beyond seeing their solid Google rating. On January 14, I dropped off my vintage Allen Edmonds loafers for a full resole and clearly explained that I wanted the new soles to resemble the originals (tan leather with a black heel and black around the welt). The owner assured me that's exactly what I'd get and even walked me through the process, including replacing the cork. At $120 with a one-week turnaround, it sounded like a great deal. When I returned, however, the shoes looked nothing like what I requested. They had an all-black sole with clumps of dye around the sole, heel, and even on the uppers. Not only was it not how I asked for, but the workmanship was poor. I asked for a refund, but the owner acknowledged the quality was unacceptable and promised to redo them properly for free. After another delay, this time to order a higher-quality JR leather sole, he called to let me know they were ready. The second time around, the shoes were done the way I originally wanted. They're not flawless, but for an old pair of loafers with new JR soles at $120, I'm very happy with the final result. Had they done this the first time, this would easily be a five-star review. Instead, the three-week timeline and initial mistake brings my review down slightly. To their credit, they took responsibility and made it right. My advice: don't rely on reputation alone, and if something isn't right, speak up. They will work to fix it.

Absolutely terrible service. I brought my Dansko loafer in to repair a broken strap. After they were "repaired" the first time I wore them the strap completely broke again. When I took them back to have them repaired again I completely expected them not to charge me. Not only was he going to charge me he was also very rude. He - the older gentleman- told me that since I took them they were "fixed" - asked me why did I take them if they weren't fixed?" Also told me that is what happens when I buy cheap shoes. Dansko are not super expensive but I don't think $150 is a cheap pair of shoes. I have been going to Zinkes for years. The change of ownership certainly changed the pride they took in fixing shoes and their customers service.

My previous visit was so long ago it was at the old location. I was delighted that they are still in business! Parked in the free parking in their lot behind the shop... Note, it's easy to miss if you are driving N on Lake. I brought in a pair of loafers to replace the rubber portion of the heel that had worn down. Price $20 paid at time of drop off. It was going to be a week until they were ready... seemed a little long for an easy fix, but hopefully it's because there are so many orders. I called the day of in advance to be sure the job was completed. The work was well done. Both employees, the day of drop off and pick up were polite and professional which is always appreciated. Business was clean, I've been to other repair shops that were not the case at all. So worth the investment to get more milage out of good shoes.

Great service, honest and fair. I have used them in the past, and they have always done great work.

My favorite newly restored Robert Clergerie shoes! Thank you Zinke Shoe Repair!

Ahmad and the Zinke Shoe Repair Team are the best! I had a beloved pair of 20-year old Robert Clergerie shoes that they repaired and refurbished like new. I can't thank them enough. I recommend them highly. Not only do they do a fantastic job, but they are so reasonably priced for their excellent service.

I brought in some Frye tall boots on 12.5.19. I received good customer service, the gentleman and I decided on a dark shade of brown to dye my boots. I bought the boots last yr, one was a display so one boot was noticeably lighter than the other. Was told my boots would be ready in 1 week. I called on 12.12.19 (10 am ) My boots were not ready but was told they would be ready at 4pm. I was not able to pick them up then, or the weekend because of a trip. Finally picked up the boots 12.16.19, they looked really nice at first sight, and out the door i was. When trying on the boots, I noticed that the job was rushed to be ready as promised. The job was clearly not finished. I paid 60$ for this... for that price this should' be a A+ job details and all !!. I found the negative reviews on 12.12.19 researching Zinkes number before my pick up.. too late !

Deluxe Shoe Repair - What my Wolverine 1000 Mile boots looked like after Sam's restoration!

I moonlight professionally as a Medieval English Historian and there is something especially erotic…read morein trades that have stood the test of time like blacksmithing, metal-making, apothecaries, leather-making, etc. Also, on this list that I always find intriguing: cobblers. With the overconsumption of marketed goods nowadays; not everyone considers the repair of shoes/purses/leather goods; and rather just makes an entirely new purchase. If you need such work and are in the east valley vicinity; I introduce you to Deluxe Shoe Repair in Burbank. Burbank is the home to a very famous shoe repair shop who I shall not name here; but seems to be everyone's instant 'go-to' for cobbler type repair. I, too, had patroned that establishment and simply do NOT understand the hype: they aren't welcoming, they are abrasive and their work is not that great while also being overpriced (granted, this is a specialized, by-hand field of work so it isn't cheap). Point is, I wanted to find a different place for shoe and leather repairs which is how I discovered Deluxe Shoe Repair. Deluxe Shoe Repair holds real estate on Hollywood Way a few doors down from the Magnolia intersection (yes, the one with Portos) making it a tough spot for parking but there is a small lot in the back accessible from the next street. Deluxe Shoe Repair is THE place to go for shoe repair, resoling, cleaning, purse repair/cleaning/restoration, show dying... you name it and they do it. The thing that makes Deluxe Shoe Repair stick out is their handling of designer and high-end luxury items. It can be nerve-racking to leave items worth multiple hundreds of dollars in someone else's hands but DSR can make anything look better than new! I initially went to DSR because a pair of espadrilles wedges were becoming unglued and I was curious if there was a way to save them. DSR is a medium sized store with some seating, cases of gorgeous designer shoes that I am dying to have a pair (turns out DSR works with the wardrobe departments for the local studio and many of these were used in tv/film and DSR is selling them severely reduced prices), mirrors and natural lighting. Stroll to the back counter and you will meet the man who is the driving force behind DSR: Sam. Sam is welcoming but professional and his passion for his work is evident: he doesn't just do this for a means of living but actually LOVES it. Turns out my espadrilles couldn't be repaired because they are fabric and it is only leather and rubber that Sam can remaster. I was, bluntly, shit out of luck - BUT I appreciate that he was honest and didn't half-ass a repair just to make a few bucks. Sam and DSR seemed so great that I was determined to give them business and returned with a several hundred-dollar price tag Michael Kors purse whose strap was simply too long (I have this issue with most purse straps because I like wearing crossbody bags on one shoulder). I called ahead of time and Sam disclosed that he could punch a hole in the strap for a super low cost of $5/hole. But when he looked at the strap in person, it would create too much slack and frankly look bad which we don't want with designer purses, now do we?! I don't exactly know what Sam was going to do in terms of his operating table but his magic involves cutting the straps and gluing back together at the seam (I think, I don't actually know and honestly, you don't ask a master artist how they do their work but just trust them); and he took the time to measure the strap while I wore the purse so that it was exactly how I would want it. I was slightly taken aback that payment must be made upfront ($30 for my strap shortening) because what if I am not satisfied or he messes something up? But I tried to calm my fears knowing he has great reviews. I dropped the purse off on Wednesday and I received a text on Friday that it was ready. When I picked up the strap, it was a beautiful work of art. The length is perfect and there is no sign of a repair. Aside from the workmanship; Sam's customer service is also fantastic. As I said, he was honest during the first visit that he couldn't fix those particular shoes, he remembered me when I returned and seemed truly happy to see me and he was patient with me while I was crying in his establishment due to some personal health and life issues I am dealing with. Sam isn't just trying to make money off customers but also treats them with compassion. Deluxe Shoe Repair is definitely the only place I will be taking any shoes or purses for repair herein out but please note that cheap run of the mill shoes can't be repaired such as canvas fabric on fabric. So, if you are looking to pretend you are in medieval times and have a personal cobbler but with modern-day artistry; head to Deluxe Shoe Repair.
