I had this service done last year, around June 2025. I got these gorgeous real leather Frye boots for $5 at a yard sale. Greg told me the calves could be stretched so I paid to have them stretched and soled at the same time- turning a $5 pair of boots into a $105 pair of boots. He was great at communicating with me through the app and seemed kind, so I drove far for the service. I tried them on when I dropped them off so he could see where they needed stretched in the calf. When I came to pick them up, I tried them on with the new soles- and the calves did not appear to be stretched at all. What hurt my feelings was when he said "These are for YOUR legs?" and looked down at my kankles in UTTER disgust. The judgement on his face has left a permanent burn mark on my memory. I think back to that moment every time I pass the $5 boots-turned-$105 boots I still cannot wear, every time I walk out my door. I paid what was asked, I'm only sad I didn't have more self respect to say "YEAH. MY LEGS. YOU SAW ME TRY THEM ON. WHO DID YOU THINK I WAS GETTING THEM STRETCHED FOR?". 2 stars off for the contorted, disapproving face he made at my legs that will haunt me every time I try on high boots for the rest of my life. read more

The gentleman who owns Lyon Shoe Repair did an excellent job restoring a very worn pair of shoes for me. He had to completely do a glue job on the soles because they couldn't be removed from the shoe, and then do a new sole over that old one. I went through this process because they no longer make this model of shoe, and it's my absolute favorite so it was worth the effort. read more

Overall, I'd consider the experience positive. The shop owner seems to work pretty quickly, who quoted me a return time of 3 business days. Service + materials were $50 in total, a bit steeper than expected. I used to have my shoes protective soled very regularly by a shop in my former neighborhood, as I believe it's valuable to maintain the health of shoes, and recall it being around $30, at best. I did a dumb thing and managed to tangle up my new Merrill hiking boots and trip in them while untied, partially pulling out one of the two hooks at the ankle. I was about to take off on a hiking tour of Ireland. I was afraid to use the boot in case I pulled the hook out all the way, and the way it was made, I couldn't reattach the rivet with no access to inside the padded ankle. I went to Lyon Shoe Repair randomly on my way home to see anything could be done. The older gentleman (I assume the owner, the only one there) was busy on a repair but he took the boot back to his worktable for 5 minutes as I looked around the retail area up front and came back with a fixed boot. I was ecstatic. I asked what I owed him and he waved me off. "Nothing," he said. I had noticed that he was one of the few shops that repaired Birkenstocks and asked the repair prices (because the heat of a hot car last summer had shrunken the bottom brown tread soles of my old Arizonas). The prices were very reasonable, both for just the soles and also for the cork footbeds. I would absolutely take all my shoe repairs (and purses) in future to Lyon Shoe Repair because these types of workmen and stores with good neighbor attitudes just do not exist anymore! read more
