The owner is very rude. They told my daughter she could pick up a puppy. I was with her the entire time. she went to out him down and the dog jump - I was there trying to to assist her. he yelled at me in front of my daughter. He asked if I would pay if there was damage. I said I would and he said "oh really" very sarcastically. when I said we wouldn't be back he said "I can't wait for that." the most unprofessional establishment I had ever been in. he only seems to care that the dog was worth $2000 and didn't even check the dog to see if it was possible even hurt. he was looking for a fight. read more

My dog originally came from this pet shop (his first family bought him from here back in 2017). This is a puppy mill peddler claiming their dogs are from "local breeders". They are mass produced mutts with an array of issues who this place sells for ridiculous amounts of money. They only care about profit, not the animals. Unfortunately we are my dog's third home (after a lot of research and his DNA test I tracked him down to being a puppy sold from this "pet shop" in September of 2017 who then was surrendered to a shelter at 11 months old due to "issues"). Ilove my dog but he is such a mess psychologically. He is a genetic nightmare and after seeing multiple professionals unfortunately no amount of training or medication will "fix" him. He will live out the remainder of his life as our spoiled pet but I wish the poor dog didn't have to deal with the psychological issues he has. This place has zero concern about animal welfare and the dogs people get from here are the ones that end up in shelters (like my dog) and further contribute to over population in shelters. Please do not support this place and either instead rescue/go to an animal shelter or seek a responsible breeder who health tests and cares about their dogs. No responsible breeder would ever sell their dogs in a place like this. read more

While it's enjoyable to walk around and have access to the animals, it's really sad that most of them have such poor living conditions. I only ever come here to see the animals and pet them, or maybe on the rare occasion to buy supplies that my local pet store doesn't have. The puppies are kept in cramped spaces, with some sort of wood bedding that clings to their fur and likely causes respiratory issues (as many of them are sneezing whenever I go in). They are given hamster water bottles to drink from, and can spend a few hours sitting next to their own feces and urine if an employee doesn't clean it up. The aquariums that they keep the small animals in are too crowded, and they are not provided with proper food or water either. I worry that the employees don't even tell customers how to properly care for these small animals, considering it looks like they aren't even being taken care of in store. The rabbits never have enough space or hay, and they are meant to drink from water bowls, not water bottles (just like the dogs). I don't understand why the animals can't have proper set ups when it looks like the employees are never busy. If you're thinking of buying an animal from this store, and you think it's going to work out because they are "pure-bred" or come from breeders, I would certainly rethink that choice. Many of the animals look 10x more unhealthy than those i've seen at shelters or local shops that partner with rescues. More often than not, mutts are healthier than these dogs that are bred in improper conditions. Please, for the sake of the animals, consider adopting or rescuing your next pet. Do not support a store whose owner has faced several charges of animal cruelty, and whose employees have been jailed in the past for killing animals. To those saying their pets have been fine, or have lived great lives after being purchased from Zimmers', that's great! However, that's often not the case as you can tell from the overwhelming amount of negative reviews, and the statistics on backyard bred pets versus rescues. read more

Would give a zero or negative rating if I could. I received a sick puppy and was made to feel like I was the one to make it sick. I did get my money back but spent triple that to save the pups life. He had Parvo and almost died. Miraculously, no other puppy out of 20 others in the store at the time had it. Insert my huge eye roll here. We had him less than 48 hours before he became sick. 1/25/24 If I could leave a 0 star review I would. My daughter went there last week to see the puppies and play with them. A couple of days after that my 3 dogs started coughing. We took them to the vet and found out they have kennel cough. My dogs don't go out in public nor do they interact with other dogs. I called Zimmers yesterday and told them i had suspicions of my dogs getting kennel cough from their puppies and they said that they are vaccinated and being treated for it now. They confirmed that they are aware of it and are not disclosing it to their customers or anyone that is playing or holding the puppies. Now I have 3 vet bills and 3 uncomfortable dogs that could have been avoided with a simple disclosure from the employees. I'm always rooting for this store. Before I walk in I pray It'll be obvious how much the animals (specifically the puppies) are loved & cared for. But every time I'm utterly disappointed. More like down right heart broken. I went in today and was glad only 3 bins had puppies in them as opposed to all 7 bins being filled. Having less puppies is obviously more maintainable. Unfortunately, It doesn't matter how many puppies they have, they all get the same amount of neglect. It stunk of poop to high heaven, and I would expect that. But so is having a certain level of standards. The bins should be checked every 10mins for poop (or just use your nose) and should be immediately scooped and cleaned. These poor puppies are rolling, stepping, and basically covered in it. There was an employee 3ft away stocking shelves that could hear me saying "there's poop all over these dogs!" Then watched me look around for a scooper because I was going to clean it if she wasn't. And I did. These dogs deserve an insurmountable level of better. These puppies were crying for me to come back and get them out of that shit box. They need fresh air, they need to run and play. Not be kept in Puppy Prison. I visited for the first time and was shocked how many puppies were in one contained space. there was no room, poop in space, etc. I asked one of the workers if the dogs are fostered at night, so they're not in that space all the time. the worker said no. They are stuck in this small area 24/7. I was shocked to see a place like this. it was overcrowded & dirty, and puppies can't be puppies. Don't buy from here and support animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect by doing so. The conditions in their reptile room are absolutely horrendous. At first glance, the reptiles may look okay; if you know how to assess their health though, several of them are seriously ill. They hid one of their sick snakes higher up, so you couldn't easily see it. There were two others that had obvious respiratory infections and no one there seemed to care. There was a bearded dragon that was literally starving to death, smashed up against the glass, and completely dehydrated. I took photos, but honestly cannot even bring myself to look at them again for posting. It is reprehensible what they are doing to them. Reptiles require different humidity and temps for basic survival. Their room does not provide this. All of the bearded dragons, several snakes, and multiple other lizards are gravely ill. I reported them to the local animal cruelty organization. When I called, they said several people had already called to report them--I'm hoping if more people report them, they'll get them to make changes. Went there the other day to buy a tank for animals at home and decided to take a loo at the animals. they had one small cage (not even big enough for one rabbit) with one adult and several baby bunnies. we just thought the one was sleeping, then took a closer look and realized it wasn't breathing. the rabbit was dead, and just in with the other rabbits. we let the worker know and he didnt even seem surprised, and just brought the cage to the back. that happened a few days ago. another incident we had was a few years ago. We had gotten a guinea pig from there and within a week it died. it was well taken care of, didnt seem like anything was wrong then we came home one day and she was dead. do not recommend getting animals from here. while they're cheap, they dont seem to last very long. read more

My cousin and i went to a pet store today to look at puppies. At first it was great! Playing with all the cute puppies and animals. Everything seemed alright and ok. Then as I walked around and the excitement wore off, it became a really sad site. A lot of these animals were in really poor condition. Swollen eyes, cramped cages; the more I walked around the more depressed I became ... and then I found this beautiful guy. Stuck in a crate way too small for him. He was trying so hard to get out. This beautiful tortoise didn't belong in that crate and he definitely didn't belong in someone's house to be half assed taken care of. This place is really popular with teenagers coming to play with the puppies and it's a really bad thing in my opinion. Worst pet store I have ever seen. My child bent down to check to see if some of the puppies were still breathing. The puppy room was so hot we could barely breathe. 90% of the puppies were totally unresponsive. Even when petted and tried to wake up- layed motionless. Then 2 hounds were in a TINY ass rabit size cage with a metal top. And boxes stacked on top. They could barely move around. Based on prior charges of overheating animals i found online it seems to be a continual problem. This place needs to be shut down. read more

The puppies are in wood shavings to sleep and play. Their fur is covered with small shavings and there is poop where they sleep and they are obviously overheating. Not even to mention they drink water out of bunny bottles with the tube and ball. There's no AC on in the building, I was warm myself so imagine puppies with all that fur! Every time a poor sap buys a puppy from this place, they increase the demand for backyard bred/ puppy mill puppies. Nobody should be paying this kind of cash for a mutt. I love mixes but not when their moms are bred over and over and live their lives in a cage somewhere. They're selling animals with undisclosed and often unknown health conditions from poor breeding. Pet store puppies are 99% puppy mill puppies and 1% backyard bred. Don't support animal cruelty by giving these people your money. My wife Paige and I frequent this place quite its often and have personally done plenty of business with them . We have bought blue tongued skinks , monitors , ferrets and much more here. I don't know what these other people are talking about. My experience was very good in this family owned and run pet shop. You can tell it's there passion to care for these animals and find them homes. I personally feel terrible for all the rescue dogs out there but I would never buy a dog that was a rescue and dislike the fact that people judge others about it. Not to many people out there can handle and train rescues. You just don't know what your getting. At Zimmers your getting a happy pup that was cared for by a family. I will keep this short, but unfortunately not so sweet. Walked in for the first time of my life today... First thing to greet me is a large woman, who I said hello to at the counter. She didn't even acknowledge me after watching me walk in. Walked in the back to view the puppies, and instantly fell in love with a German Shepherd puppy. I have been searching for awhile, and was set on the purchase after 15 minutes of playing with her in the back (by myself, since nobody was there to help). So I walk to the counter, and the same woman is there with her husband (who I believe was the owner). My first and only question was this, "where do you get your dogs from?". For $700, I would like to get some indication of what I may be in for. They were very sketchy but mumbled that they have a breeder they work with. After this I asked if the dog had any vaccinations, and I hardly got a response with a rude comment following "I think we have given you enough information to make a decision" and continued to ignore. I am an adult, with money in hand and they didn't give me the time of day. DO NOT GO HERE, PRICES ARE HIGH, OWNERS ARE RUDE RUDE RUDE, and the other reviews about this business are spot on. I don't know what these other people are talking about. I bought my puppy Lilly here in April. Not only did they make me hold her and spend time with her in a private play area to make sure we got along, they also made sure we knew everything possible about her breed to make sure we knew 100% what we were getting our selves into. They said they require us to buy a bag of the same food she was used to eating ... Was worth every penny honestly. My 10 year old dog loves and and she never liked dry dog food before. Took the dog to the vet and she is in perfect health. She's a happy dog. We also bought 2 birds and a fish the same day. 3 months later and they are all happy and healthy. Staff was friendly and not overbearing like most other pet stores. They gave us space yet were there when we had questions and needed them. read more

This is the most unscrupulous, dishonest, disgusting business I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They sold me a sick rabbit who didn't eat, drink, or poop from the day I bought him. He was so emaciated you could feel every bone in his body. I took him back 3 days later hoping to get help and they took him back and only gave store credit. They refused to give me my money back when they sold me a sick and dying rabbit. And when I went back in to return him the lady was on the phone arguing with another poor person whose dog has congestive heart failure thanks to their horrendous breeding practices. Don't buy anything from this store they abuse animals by not giving them the proper equipment and cleaning needed. Second time now I bought animals that dies within two weeks. First was koi fish that both got sick with ick. And now is two baby turtles that died with parasites. Calling the lady robin (manager) and speaking too her didn't help. She accused me of my tanks having the ick and parasites both times and said her turtles are not sick. I have seen dogs with bloody diarrhea multiple times now and most of the animals in tanks have ick or parasites. Don't waste your money or time for anything in this store. Be careful buying pets here. My daughter just bought a baby bunny last week. Found dead in her cage tonight. No apparant cause other than noting it really hadn't pooped. She was feeding it the food that was recommended by staff at the store. It had adequate water intake. I told my husband to call today to see if they will compensate. He said no, cannot, because she had signed a waiver stating they are not responsible for sick or dead pets. This will be that last time I allow my kids to buy a pet here. read more

I wish I could give it negative starts. Don't buy into this "family breeder" BS. Zimmers is absolutely a PUPPY MILL. They could not care less about any of their animals and do not value the health or well being of these poor dogs. I bought a dog there 6 years ago. Against my better judgement, but I fell in love with her. When we picked her up they said she might have worms and if she did to not take her to a vet, to bring her back to them. Of course I took her to a vet and she had worms. She vomited every single day until she completed her treatment. While that was disappointing, it wasn't so bad. Puppies get worms, right? At age two, my dog injured both of her knees. Long story short, she needed double knee surgery. Both her vet and her orthopedic surgeon made it clear to me, unsolicited, that this specific injury was the direct result of a genetic defect that is a hallmark sign of overbreeding, aka, she came from a puppy mill. Thousands of dollars and 6 months later, she was cleared to return to normal activity. She's now 6. Last week I was petting her and found a huge, hard lump on her stomach. After taking her to several vets to be examined and having the mass aspirated twice, we now believe she has a hernia. Again, I ask the vet --- a different vet than the one that treated her knees --- how does a dog get a hernia? The answer? Genetic defect. This will most likely lead to another painful and expensive surgery. I don't begrudge my dog the money. I'm thankful I am able to give her the care she needs. But I fear what would have happened if she was adopted by someone that didn't have the means or inclination to spend the way we have to keep her healthy. I fear what we will find next and if it will shorten her already too-short life. It's not her fault that her parents were bread to the point of creating genetic defects in their puppies. I love her so much. We will continue to do anything she needs. But the fact remains that everything she has gone through and will continue to go through, all the money we've had to spend, is the direct result of irresponsible breeding. It makes me sad and disgusted that their store continues to operate after proving repeatedly to our community that they are not fit to do so responsibly. read more

zimmers pets in boyertown is known for their animal cruelty & still continues to remain open. everytime i walk into that place i leave upset after seeing all the animals in there not being taken care of properly. from the bloated stomachs on ALL puppies & the stupid hamster water bottles they have these poor animals trying to drink out of & not getting any water. & half the time theyre laying in their own poop.... Well today i walk in & see that there is a kitten clearly sick & suffering & its whiskers were cut off. In the videos you can clearly tell he is struggling to breathe. i tell one of the guys working that I'm concerned for this kitten and I started asking questions and he had zero answers for me.... He tells me the kitten got THAT sick within the last hour.... And tells me he doesn't know what happened to the whiskers but continued to say he's keeping a "close eye" on it.... I told him the kitten needs immediate help & all he did was take it downstairs into the basement to "quarantine" but only did that because i said something about it..... so all day that kitten sat there very sick in a small cage next to two other kittens. and thom zimmers kept laughing at me and my friends for taking this seriously....It makes me question whether that kitten will receive the help it needs considering they left it sit like that all day struggling & haven't proven to be caring towards their animals.... they also smoke cigarettes in the basement where they keep the sick animals. & all of their employees are on drugs & leave needles in the bathroom. read more

Bought 10 fish there about a month ago, my tank is set up perfectly fine and can house all of those fish. I have one left. I bought a bird there 5 days ago and she just passed away this morning. When I took her out of the box I could tell they had grabbed a different bird then I had asked for, she wasn't healthy and couldn't fly. Not to mention the fact that their dogs are thousands of dollars for mixes, and their animals are very overpriced. Only shop here if you really need to. If there was an option for 0 stars, that would have been what I gave it.... My husband and I stopped in because he used to go there as a kid and for nostalgic reasons, wanted to see what they had. I'm certain the puppies are puppy mill dogs. They are asking $1700 or more for mutts that are dehydrated and appear to have worms based on their distended abdomens. They are asking close to $200 for kittens they probably picked up for free in the merchandiser, Craigslist or a farm. They have dead mice and rats being eaten by the live mice and rats. The reptile room was by far the worst. Reptiles need very specific temperature/heat/basking and humidity requirements. It was entirely too dry. They had full grown ball pythons in 10 gallon tanks that never had their poop or shed skin cleaned out. The water turtles had shell rot, no basking light, and not even enough water to submerge. They had Central American Wood Turtles who were so dehydrated you would think they were taxidermy pieces. The owner was also a complete ass. This place needs to be shut down. read more

I find all of these other comments comical. I purchased my kitten (Wednesday) from Zimmers about two months ago and also purchased my ferret (Michonne) shortly after. Both of my pets have excellent health and are extremely outgoing, affectionate, intelligent and playful. The employees at Zimmers are very knowledgeable about animals and truly do care about them. They have a great selection of fish, reptiles, small animals, kittens puppies, and all the needs for your pets. I recommend this pet store to anyone and everyone that I know. I purchased my Beautiful, toy poodle puppy of 3 months from this facility. It was such a wonderful experience. This is my first pet and they were so educational and helpful. This is one of the worse pet shops i have ever been to. The workers do not seem to care for the animals. i went today with four friends. When we went over to the birds, there was a dead bird in the cage, and when notifying the co-worker she did not seem too surprised!!! next, when visiting the mice, we saw TWO extremely dead mice that have been in there for at-least three days. there body's were beyond stiff and were getting fed on by other mice. We also witnessed a hamster give birth and the workers were completely unaware of that as well. The rabbits had poop stuck on them. Some of the dogs did not even have water and when we told a worker he said, 'im busy doing other things, ill get to it.' Many of the animals did not have clean cages and/or clean drinking water. The place has a wide variety of dog tots but lack at the cat toys. I would not recommend going here if you plan on getting a pet. The conditions are terrible for the animals. read more
