I arrived at Ziggy's in Plymouth at 8:45 p.m. last night, excited to finally try this place after hearing good things. Their website clearly lists a 9:00 p.m. closing time, and Yelp actually says they're open until 11:00 p.m. -- yet when I got there, the lights were off, doors locked, and not a single person in sight. No note on the door, no message online, and no one answering the phone when I called, just completely closed 15 minutes before their own posted hours, and more than two hours before what Yelp lists. It's incredibly disappointing, especially since I even called ahead while en route to confirm they were open, and still found the place deserted. If you're going to advertise hours, at least honor them or update them when you decide to close early. This kind of inconsistency and lack of professionalism is unacceptable, and it's a shame, because I really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, first impressions matter, and Ziggy's completely missed the mark. read more

This place also was trying to dabble in food options like burgers, fries, fish & chips, etc. It was fine, and they were busy, but I always wonder why, in this day in age, businesses refuse to accept debit/credit cards. (Ziggy's is CASH ONLY) I had cash, so it wasn't an inconvenience to me - and they have an ATM on the back patio, so I guess customers aren't totally inconvenienced if they need to get cash. However, the processing charges simply aren't high enough to justify irritating your customers - or, worst case, turning them away to go to a competitor because they only have a credit card. Seems like the owner of this spot is just old school and set in their ways, perhaps? There's a million signs all over the store and patio telling you what you can/can't do, so it's got kind of a grumpy vibe. Ice cream was fine, price was what you'd expect on the waterfront in Plymouth, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to patronize this place in the future. read more

I was just at Ziggy's. Ordered an extra thick frappe. I told the server twice, that I would like it extra thick. Needless to say, she has no idea how to make a simple frappe. It tasted like straight milk. The ratio was basically 10% ice cream, 80% milk. It was awful. I took a sip and threw it in the trash. I paid over $10 for a cup of milk. read more

Excellent! We've been here twice. Service is prompt, friendly and the ice cream has a fresh, creamy quality taste. We got the mint chocolate chip, which has actual chip shaped chocolate but small enough to eat easily, and maple walnut which had good maple flavor and the walnuts were fresh and not mushy. Sometimes there are a few people in line outside, the line moves quickly so don't get discouraged. However, you can go directly inside and order too. I saw that the folks in the outside line had strollers, so be sure to take a peek inside as you might be able to get your order in quicker if you pop inside as they do have a couple order lines. I'd recommend bringing some wipes as the weather gets warmer. The ice cream portions are generous, you may get some drippy stickyness you'll want to clean off later. Or ask for a cup to upend your ice cream cone when you realize you don't eat ice cream as quickly as you thought :) read more

There was a guy moving the line and instructing people how and where to order. I assume he was "ziggy". He was funny, he was helpful and when we had the ice cream we were happy. We went there after dinner one hot summer night so alls I could try was a chocolate/vanilla twist and it was perfect for a dessert after dinner. While I was in line I saw they had a blueberry pie ice cream. I could not get that blueberry pie ice cream out of my mind and there's no way I could eat that after a dinner. Over the next few days I kept thinking about it, what would it taste like, would it just be blueberries, would there be crust mixed in? The suspense of trying it was killing me. We were in the Plymouth area a few days later and I said, let's try it. Oh my, it was better than I expected. It wasn't just blueberries mixed with vanilla ice cream, there was definitely some crust mixed in. Super tasty but totally an iced cream that would be considered a meal. On our way up to the Cape this summer, we stopped in Plymouth and wanted to eat lunch at a place quicker than a sit down restaurant since we weren't planning on staying long, just wanted to do some sightseeing. We honestly may have been better off going to a sit down restaurant with how long it took us here. They desperately needed to work on their system of how they were taking orders and managing the grill. When we got up to the counter, she asked us if we would be ordering any ice cream with our meal, which we said yes, we wanted the fried dough ice cream sundae. She said she would make that for us first, which we didn't really want before our meal, but it didn't seem like we had a choice. So, we ended up having to eat the whole sundae before our lunch because it was melting on the hot fried dough. Being an ice cream establishment, I have enjoyed their many flavors and choices since the early 1990s. Their food has always been something I haven't had the desire to order, assuming that it's all frozen and fried fare. Boy was I wrong. I ordered the Lobster Roll and was pleased to receive a buttered toasted roll lined with crisp fresh lettuce and packed with at least 4oz of fresh claw and tail meat. No mayonnaise, no gimmicks. Just fresh steamed lobster with some seasonings and butter that couldn't make it down my gullet fast enough. The onion rings were nice and crispy, and the staff were pleasant and quite friendly - especially being a staff that must deal with some touchy people, being in a tourist spot and all. My wife went back in for French fries and a slice of pizza because we were sitting in the back of the Jeep with live Sax playing. 30 min later I call her She said she was still waiting. 10 more min later I call her and it's the same. We saw this ice cream place while walking around this afternoon and on our way to dinner. It looked light and cheery plus the scoops looked big. We got downtown later than we anticipated for a Sunday night. It appeared that most of the stuff was closed. Then we saw Ziggys...their picnic tables were full of customers. They have the best Pistachio and Rocky Road ice cream here. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is their servings are inconsistent. I would order a kid's size and sometimes my kids would have the same amount and other times more than me and my husband's order which is a size up. read more
