Gellar's was a fun stop. When you step up to the window to order, you can smell the well seasoned flat top and the sizzling greatness upon it. I was almost side tracked from my ice cream ordering. As a Texan.. one scoop at Gellar's in a waffle cone is plenty. I was amazing at the serving size and then accepted the challenge. Great ice cream selection. I didn't try any but there are an assortment of hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, fries, etc. Staff was nice and didn't rush us slow midwesterners. I've stopped here over the years for ice cream and soft serve. It was ok for the price and location down street from the beach. Today we stopped for a meal. It was ridiculously overpriced. 2 clam strip - 1/2 pints (not knowing how many clams fit in a pint) We got 2 tiny boxes with maybe 15 clam strips in each. They were not good. No fries. No coleslaw. That's it. $24. An order of wing dings. 5 wing dings - $7. Kids chicken tenders. 2 pieces with fries with coleslaw? $7 I could find dinner plates for about the same price anywhere. The portions were pitiful, and overpriced. Really aggrevating. I'm sure the kids working there and great kids. Anyplace else in the area would've been what we were looking for. read more

I have been coming too Gellars since I was a youngin. I've known Suzy for 30.+ years I respect her a lot when I was in Afghanistan she would send me care packages mostly over the course of the year that I was there, furthermore when I came back also gave me a lot of free ice cream for the first couple years. Here in Plymouth visiting family. My partner and I wanted to get some quick late night bites after a dip in the pool and unfortunately I will never come back to this establishment nor recommended to anybody because the customer service was just awful. At the start the person taking care of us seemed to be nice but ended up having a nasty attitude, not really sure why. We ordered a 4 piece chicken tender mini meal with fries. According to the menus on the wall, they advertise that the mini meal includes 4 piece tenders, fries, coleslaw and a roll. I had asked the person helping us out if he could double it as my partner and I were going share it. He said sure. We waited for our food & I see he had only given us 4 pieces of chicken tender even though I had asked for double (which should've been 8). I kindly expressed we wanted double the amount of tenders and he loudly expressed that the meal only comes with two and so he did double it. I wasn't a fan the way he responded. Also, my partner has ordered his ice cream in a cone and gave it to him on a cup. And he didn't include any of the sides that come included in the mini meal such as the Coleslaw and roll. Honestly just don't bother, I'd rather eat fast food chicken than grab food at this establishment ever again. read more

We're always passing this place on our drive to the beach from my fiancé's parents place so I figured it was time to try. It definitely has a small town, mom/pop shop feel to it. What became automatically interesting to me was that they have 20+ flavors of soft serve... I don't know very many places with that kind of soft serve variety. we got the tiramisu and coconut soft serve with peanut crunch topping. I came in the other day to this cute little shop on the side of State Road. I was informed that it has been there for 96 years (so cool!!) A young gentleman named Brian made me the best cheese burger I have ever had. He was so nice and friendly while he was serving me and he made a delicious strawberry frap! If you find yourself in Plymouth's bastard child of a village (Manomet), and I say that fondly because I grew up there, definitely drop in for a cone. The correct way to eat Gellar's Ice Cream is on the wall surrounding the church and cemetery across the street - don't be waylayed by the picnic tables. Your legs must swing over the side of the stone like a toddler in a highchair for the genuine experience. Despite any snackbar stigma, I can attest to the fact that the place is immaculate - the owner, a long-time Manometian, manages with an iron fist. While ice cream's the draw, my boyfriend is pretty much obsessed with the burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Stay away from the chicken fingers though - I can't exactly articulate why, but I hate them. read more

Even though they don't put animal crackers on the ice cream cones anymore, like they used to back in the '80 when things were good and people were rich, the ice cream here is still pretty tasty. I recommend the bubble gum flavor or a root beer float. In the summer (they are open year-round), go south on Rt. 3A to Holy Cows (will be on your right) if you want to get a larger serving of soft serve. The boss, Suzie, at Gellar's is always sitting near the front window, and cashiers, especially the very friendly one who always wears her hair up in pigtails, can't give you large servings. Because they don't take debit cards and that's all I ever seem to have on me when I'm driving by, I don't go there as often as I used to when I was a kid. Cheap- that's the best way to describe our ridiculous small portions of soft serve ice we received this evening. The girl serving 4 of us argued the the portions were correct and it was so obviously small it was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to treat visiting family to Icecream there. We've run into this issues before even with the owner there who had corrected the size , but this was unacceptable. There are too many options to choose from to have to accept this. We found this place completely by chance. We had dinner (hot dogs, hamburgers and fresh fish sandwich). Wow, what great service. Family run since 1926. It turns out my 82 year old Aunt used to go there with my uncle many years ago so we went back for ice cream with her and it was great. They make individual soft ice cream flavors for you (something that is new to me) as well as normal hard ice cream. The whole family loved it! I've only been for ice cream. They offer 20+ flavors of soft serve, but I recommend going for their homemade ice cream flavors. The Seaside Smores was a delicious vanilla ice cream with graham cracker flavor throughout and large, gooey marshmallows as hidden surprises. Went to this place today for the second time this summer. Both times the elderly woman who owns it has been sitting in her chair by the ice cream scoops "supervising" the teenagers working and BARKING orders at them. It was AWFUL. I felt so bad for the young man waiting on us, who was super friendly. If I didn't want a root beer float so bad, I would have asked to speak to her. Terrible. read more

Have been coming here for years and always got the same thing, went here twice this year and the second time after ordering the normal small we were given 3 baby size ice creams and after commenting to the girl there about the size she didn't acknowledge us and we were charged $15 for 3 baby servings. Gellars has been a staple in the Manomet area for quite a while and they get some things perfectly right. The ice cream. 42 flavors of pure headache delight. The gourmet, fun, and ever changing flavors make it hard to choose but once you do, there's no disappointment. The other menu items will serve as a quick fix as well. My only gripe is the cost. It's gone past the normal Mom and Pop store prices and skyrocketed into premium national chain prices and for a lot less creamy goodness. The good ol' days of taking the little league team out after a hard fought diamond dispute will now require a second mortgage. read more

The best thing about Gellar's is NOTHING changes! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I have been going to Gellar's since the 1970's and now we go there with our kids. It's our first stop to and from Manomet when we go there in the summer. I love the nostalgia, the kids love the ice cream! I think we have probably had every flavor on the menu, all o the ice cream is great. Their root-beer floats and chocolate frappes are second to none! We got lunch there this weekend, size and prices were great. The only negative thing is they don't put an animal cracker in your ice cream anymore... but since that's my biggest complaint, they're not doing too bad. I had never been to Gellar's before, and so came upon it quite by accident. Last week, while cycling in the area I stopped in for a bite to eat. I paid for my corn chowder with my last bit of cash. When I pulled out my credit card for an ice cream cone the owner said, "so sorry, we don't take credit cards". However, on the heals of that comment she smiled and said, "so what would you like, it's on me?". Conversation soon followed. I asked about the history of the snack bar (I'm a retired history teacher) and so got the full scoop (intended). The older women who works here is so disrespectful. My high schools theatrical company was looking to rent a U Haul and when we couldn't pick it up in the morning but in the afternoon (a day before we even needed the truck because they were closed) she said some choice words and hung up on me! Wanted a scallop roll but were told they were out of scallops. They have outside seating but no shade. They need to modernize and get an on line presence of a web site or get on Facebook. read more

I grew up about 500 ft from Gellars. Great ice cream! Burgers and fries are better than Carl's Jr! I'd get an ice cream and go across the street and sit up on the stone wall at the church and watch the cars go by as I ate. I go there every time I get to town and sure enough there's Suzie Gellar inside. She'd spot me at the window, and put a big smile on her face. We'd do some catching up on 'local' news. If it was possible to give negative stars i would. Went with my girlfriend on a Tuesday around 2. She ordered a seafood salad sandwich and i ordered a scallop roll. The seafood salad was crabmeat with a watered down mayo and the scallop roll was 8 pieces of fried scallops on a hot dog bun for $15.50!!! That is insane. The scallops weren't even big, they were like the size of a quarter. The service was also another issue. The whole process took 40 minutes to order get our food and pay! While we were waiting for our food there were people in line ready to order who weren't even being helped. Way over priced and made our stomachs hurt read more
