I found this place on UberEats my first night in London. I was starving and just looking for some good pizza that delivered to the hotel. Five minutes after I ordered on UberEats I received the notification that the order has been picked up and was on its way. That was a red flag. Unless someone canceled a previous order, there's no way you can roll out dough, add toppings, and bake it in 5 minutes unless it's premade. The food is just OK. It's definitely not the worst pizza I've had, but it's not the best either. It looks and tastes like Neapolitan Italian pizza, but something is missing. It's also very flimsy and if you like to eat leftover cold pizza like me it's the least satisfying. Definitely made to eat while hot, otherwise it's texture and taste doesn't seem edible. It was good while I was starving (most things are), but if I ever found myself in London again I wouldn't order from this place for a second time. Ordered a pizza from here asked if one ingredient could be swapped, they said no problem. When I paid I realised I'd paid more than I should have. Phoned them and they had charged me for an extra topping while still taking away the topping I asked to be swapped. The person on the phone was unfriendly and uninterested in helping. They kept saying you would have been told you'd be charged. If I knew I would be charged extra I would have just kept the pizza as is. However they were unapologetic or caring. This pizzas are made fresh, I really don't understand how reaching for olives instead of capers cost me an extra 1.50 As to the pizza, very average and not worth the hassle I went through to get it. I am on an ongoing quest to find amazing pizza in London like there is in NYC. So far it's been mostly an abysmal failure. Zia Luccia at least is pretty darn good. It's a bustling place. My husband and I squeezed in around 6:45pm Sat night. I ordered the roasted aubergine, courgette and pepper as a starter, with the caveat that it wouldn't be too oily. The waitress assured me it wouldn't be... But then it was, at least to my liking. It's not drowned in oil but you can see it glistening on the veggies so I used tons of napkins to take some off. Granted, the oil used is delicious. The manager/owner? seemed very concerned and offered to replace it oil-free but I assured him I would be fine. I actually placed several of the pieces on my pizza. I ordered the La Vegana, with a butternut squash cream as it states on the menu, asparagus and tomatoes. I asked for the tomatoes to be removed as I can't have them for health reasons, and to be replaced with something else. The waitress initially said that couldn't be done, which doesn't make sense as this is not prepackaged pizza. She then talked to the manager and he again came over and offered to make adjustments. I got broccoli atop instead and was charged extra for it. My husband ordered the Parma ham pizza which had ham pieces all over. We both got the wholemeal crust. I really liked it- very thin-but the squash on my pizza was so dry. This would be a much better pizza if the squash was actually creamy. I did love the fresh basil leaves atop, however; they greatly enhanced the pizza. My husband enjoyed his meal; I have to admit the red sauce atop his pizza tasted better than my squash topping. We were both annoyed the pizza doesn't come sliced, which makes for awkward cutting into a tougher crust. The wine offered is expensive at £6/glass. For the record, this is not the best pizza in London. But it deserves an honourable mention, in part because it's a pleasant, bustling space with friendly staff. The pizza here seems to pass the basic tests with flying colours: the dough had a bit of spirit without being dense, the tomato sauce wasn't too sweet, the ration of mozzarella was generous. That said, their USP - a choice of base that includes the Instagram-friendly 'vegetable charcoal' - feels more style than substance. The approach to toppings was equally unconvincing. My sausage-and-broccoli job was served up with chunky florets of blanched broccoli: a low-key flashback to the makeshift dinners a tired parent might give a small child. The result was blander and stodgier that the versions with rabe or sprouting broccoli than I'm used to. Similarly with the roasted veg pizza that accompanied it, the toppings seemed a limp afterthought. This minor fall from grace was partially redeemed by a ricotta cheesecake that sparkled in its modesty. Enriched with almond, it was just sweet enough to make you come back for another spoonful, while still a mature, dignified affair. read more

Ooooh la la... A new pizzeria came to Islington... Roll up, roll up! I took a trip to the soft launch on their first ever day of trading, and it was as crazy as you'd expect, the people of Islington clearly know a good thing when they see it... What I loved about this place is the different choice of bases - charcoal, gluten free, wholemeal or traditional.. Basically something for everyone! Me being me.. I decided to be adventurous and order the ortalana on the charcoal base.. Basically lots of veggies and cheese.. Genius!! The pizza was fairly decent, although I think I was more excited by the base in all fairness.. At £11 (full price), I don't think it's as good as Franco mancha, but it's not a bad shout, if you're nearby.. My friend got a traditional margeherita which she wasn't over keen as the cheese was a bit watery.. We never found out why- maybe because the cheese was frozen prior, I'm not sure.. I also ordered an Italian lager, as if never heard of it before, but it was just average.. Looking back I wished I'd gone for the spritz or a glass of wine, but at £3.50, you can't really complain.. I think I'd like to return in a month or so, when they are properly settled in, as I love the concept and it definitely feels truly Italian, with all the staff clearly native!! read more

Great neighborhood pizza place. Now I understand why there is always a queue and it's always bustling. Far superior to a run-of-the-mill pizza joint. You get to choose your base which includes gluten free and whole meal. We tried whole meal and it was quite good. Food appeared fresh and the pizza was cooked well. I was most impressed by the service. We ordered one pizza and one salad between two of us and the pizza came out cut in half and on separate plates without us having to ask. A small detail but very appreciated. The next time I can avoid having to queue, I will try this place again and try out a different base. read more

What a cute little place! My best friend and I were just passing through, on holiday in London. Zia Lucia was the most appealing place in the area we found, so we wandered in. The owner was very kind, and friendly. The mint water was a nice touch. The interior is GORGEOUS. The only way to describe it is Clean and Classy! It was so good we came and ate here 3 times during our stay. The butternut squat salad is AMAZING!! We got pizzas one evening as well- and they too were tasty. I highly recommend stopping in and trying this small local pizzeria, you won't regret it. We were sad to leave London- and not being able to go to Zia Lucia was among a few of the many reasons. read more

Atrocious Customer Service I placed an order with this restaurant via deliveroo, phoned to confirm due to dietary requirements. Not a bad place to eat in or take-way due to same prices, £8.50 for a Napoli pizza, but would like to asked whether I would like a deep-based or not, as thin-base was not enough for me. It sometimes get very busy, so be prepared to stand outside to get a table. It has a toilet, good selection of beers and soft drinks, not much space around the counter if waiting to take home the pizza. They do their best at customer service, sometimes think that under cook my pizza when it's busy. Came here for a date and was not disappointed! A bit busy, so come on the early side if you want to get a seat right away. Good food, cool decor, and friendly staff. The pizza menu has a good mix of traditional and creative - we had one of each, and weren't disappointed with either. The portions on the food were nice too, just the right amount. Have you ever tried a black vegetable charcoal pizza or a glutenfree dough ? No ? Well... you should ! Once in a while, I like to have pizza. But afterwards, I'm always like "OMG ! What have I done ?! I'm so stuffed now that I don't think I'm gonna eat anything else before the next month..." So, if you feel the same way, you and your pizza dough non-friendly stomach should be happy. Indeed, Zia Lucia should sound like good news since these doughs are supposed to ease the digestion. The funny-weird pizza doughs are the main attraction here, and the toppings they add on fit the bill too. Good and fresh products, mostly straight from Pizzaland aka Italy, like Parma Ham, Taleggio or Pecorino. Vegetables like aubergines are not forgotten, neither the London fancy favorite Nduja. Decoration is 70% casual-genuine-comfortable and 30% modern-not-kitsch. So yes, you will have this great feeling of dining in a comfort&cool atmosphere in the meantime. Like your fancy-not-too-fancy hangout. Or your casual-a-bit-posh neighboorhood italian spot. But the line on the pavement is totally fancy I guess... I'm not 100% sure that the vegetable charcoal helped me to solve all my existential issues with pizzas, but it's probably linked to the fact that I felt so confident in the easy to digest promise, that I finished all my plate, when I usually don't. I came during the soft opening and while the service situation was what can only be described as a complete mess, the pizza was fantastic and most diners thought it was worth the wait. On that evening, they were overstaffed and there was a long queue out the door for the 50% off pizzas, but many empty seats as they did not have enough staff to seat people, take orders, and serve at the same time. Ah, growing pains. What I find interesting about this place is that they have four types of crust, one of which is a super cool charcoal one that has the wow factor of appearing black, but really tastes just like a normal pizza crust! We ordered two pizzas and they were both excellent, but the one you really have to order is the Marianna, which is graced with truffle honey and sausage and is just simply divine (I am a big truffle lover). Unfortunately, our salad was one of the most disappointing things I have ever seen included half of an avocado that was peeled and scored, but rock solid. We left it on the plate and when our server took it away, he asked about it and also tried to cut the rock solid avocado. I feel like a normal restaurant would have taken it off the bill, but they were lacking in customer service on this evening and it wasn't even 50% off. Another interesting thing to note is that 2 out of the 3 red wines on the menu are sparkling, which I also thought was a very bold move. We tried one of them, the Malbec, which was interesting and really rich and vibrant, but I don't think I would drink a whole bottle of it. They also hadn't figured out that they shouldn't store bottles of wine on the display shelves if there is a chance they will need to access it to serve customers throughout the evening, and interrupted diners below the shelves on at least 2 occasions. If there is a queue, you can also order takeaway, which seemed to be much more efficient. We sat at the bar and watched the pizza makers do their thing, and luckily they are very good at it, which is just about the only thing that makes the whole operation run. read more

A good pizza looks like a simple thing to do but when you eat at Zia Lucia you understand that there is a huge difference between excellent pizza and good, average pizza. At Zia Lucia the dough is soft and tasty and the ingredients are top notch quality, ranging from more traditional flavours to original and unexpected combinations. The atmosphere is great and warm. The place is just beautiful! Just what Holloway road needed. Finally I had to wait but it is a soft launch I paid 50% of the price and it was definitely worth it!!!! read more
