Seeking a more natural method of healing my gut, I found this clinic online and saw positive reviews. I decided to make an appointment after calling the number listed. Dr. Zhao Lin Yang is soft spoken and kind. His English isn't always super clear so it's good to ask things a few times to ensure you understand what he is saying or prescribing. He charges $65 per half hour consult and is cash only. Also, I think there is a cancellation fee if you don't cancel 24-48 hours in advance? He operates out of a brownstone with lots of stairs to climb. Keep that in mind if you have knee issues.
The exam room has a folding chair for you to sit with the doctor and describe your concerns. He also had two examination tables in the room. Once inside his examination room he will listen to all your concerns, check your pulse, and take many notes in Chinese. Finally, he sends you off with a prescription in Chinese to take to China Town DC and purchase all the herbs needed for your treatment. He mentioned the organs attributing to my concerns and to try this treatment for a week and see how it goes. I guess I already knew which organs could cause these issues.
Anyway, I went to the 'New Da Hsin Trading Inc.' shop at 811 7th St. NW to purchase the herbs. This is not next door so expect to walk a bit or take public transport. Note the hours of this shop are different than the clinic. I was also required to purchase a $45 big clay pot to steep the herbs in. Two women working there barely spoke any English so I couldn't ask much about the prescription as it was written all in in Chinese. They spent another half hour gathering all the herbs and individually packing each daily portion to steep. At one point they dropped some of the herbs, but still swept and packed it up? I wasn't very clear on the instructions. Something about steeping some herbs for an hour then another packet for the last five minutes? It was really hard to follow. I had to travel with the heavy clay pot, which already chipped by the time I got home despite wrapping it.
After a week of drinking these herbs 2x daily, I noticed no difference. Perhaps frequent visits to the clinic helped some people? It was very time consuming to prepare the drink daily and try to time it correctly with when to drink it. The directions provided were not very clear and given the language barrier, it was a bit challenging for me to follow. I spent $65 on the visit, $45 for the clay pot, and close to $200 for a week supply of herbs. While reviews I saw were positive, it didn't work for me. I don't think I will be back. read more
