M E N U There seemed to be a mixture of food types served which made me feel like it wasn't purely Vietnamese. They served some Thai dishes and some dishes which felt Chinese. So I would have to say this place is a mish mash of different asian cuisines. We got the ban cuon which was pretty good. Typical. You get three rolls with a dish of fish sauce. The fish dish we got in a clay pot was pretty good. It was basically catfish with the bones in a sweet sauce. The veggies we also got was okay. Nothing mind blowing. I was able to taste the two pork dishes which were basically strips of pork deep fried in various different sauces. They were crisp which was good. Again pricing was a heart attach considering for the amount you get and the quality it's about 3-4 times the price but...this is typical in Geneva. Just be aware that you just need to get ready to pay around 30-40 CHF. S E R V I C E My boyfriend's family typically comes here so the owners know them well and actually gave them a gift which was really sweet. I'm sure they appreciate their service and frequent coming to their restaurant so I'm glad they appreciate their customers. The service was prompt and good. In fact, I'm not sure there was even any in there because I didn't really taste the salted fish. It was pretty much just chicken fried rice, which wasn't bad. Beef with vegetables - pretty standard. The portions are small (at least compared to NYC) but with the amount we ordered, it was enough for two people. We had some leftovers. So if you are doing family style and have a large group, you might want to order a bit more. I'm not sure how many other Chinese restaurants are in town but I'm thinking there has to be a better one somewhere. Basic food aside, the atmosphere is kind of shady. Apparently there's a gambling machine in the back by the restroom, with shady dudes hanging around by it and smoking cigarettes. Maybe takeout and bringing it back to the hotel would have been a better option.

Friendly, delicious and great ingredients--the prices are higher than the average Asian restaurant, but justified by the difference in quality. I hadn't had Cambodian food before, and really enjoyed tasting food that was new, but also familiar, as it is has a lot in common the cuisines of neighboring Vietnam and Thailand. And also (if I remember correctly what the waiter said), the chef's wife is Vietnamese...and the restaurant has a Bo Bun (noodle bowl) on the menu. I didn't try that for my first visit....instead I ordered the special of the day, for 22 euros. I chose the special because it had three different dishes, so I'd get to try a mix of things. The chef delivered the meal himself, and told me it was like a home cooked meal in Cambodia. Apparently it's common there, when time and money permit, to eat a mix of different dishes rather than just one large portion of the same thing. Lots of fun when you're a gourmande like me! The quality of the ingredients and the preparation was excellent--a far cry from the pre-made nems reheated in a microwave so typical of Asian traiteurs in France. My favorite of the three dishes was tender chicken chunks and vegetables in a savory coconut broth, which reminded me of a Thai Tom Yum soup. The coconut broth was absolutely delicious. The chef brought me a Nuoc Mam (fermented fish sauce) with spicy red peppers as an optional addition to this. The fish sauce was spicy and strong and wonderful (the kind of thing you'll love, if you like that sort of thing, and I do), but the coconut sauce was so good by itself I ended up not using much of the Nuoc Mam. The other two dishes were a tender carmelized porc dish, shredded in a brown sauce with quartered hard-boiled eggs, and an amazing bowl of rice. It was labeled "Cantonese rice" but it had nothing in common with the typical peas and egg concoction typically found in France. The flavor was a very mild aromatic spice flavor (not sure what but it was *good*) with a small amount (just right) of Chinese sausage, barbecue pork and scrambled egg mixed in. Some reviews on another site talk of long waits here for your food. I came early on a Sunday night, and I didn't wait long at all. However, the waiter told me the wait for food can be significant when there's a crowd (particularly on Friday and Saturday nights) because everything is made to order, and the kitchen is small, with just the chef and no assistants. So basically, if you're in a hurry, don't come here when it's busy! Sam' Angkor has been around for a while as a "Traiteur" or take-out place in La Roche Sur Foron. The Annecy restaurant location opened (I believe) in May. I plan to come back and try the Pad Thai (apparently it's the Thai dish as it would be eaten in Cambodia...) and the Bo Bun, so I'll update after I've tried those!

The pho was flavorful with thicker than norm, but very tender, slices of beef and fresh chopped herbs. Afterward, I was surprised to see the bill for 23.50 and it turned out that the price listed outside (18chf) was only for take out (so read carefully!). Even though I really like Vietnamese food, I'm hesitant about returning to Saigon Restaurant because the service lacked warmth and welcome. There were not a lot of customers (two other couples) but staff seemed impatient during ordering and when explaining the bill..the kind of service more suited to a hole in the wall joint than a proper sit down restaurant.

Surprisingly, most storefronts seem to be closed, even though it was only 7 o'clock. We debated between this place and the brasserie across the street, and decided to check this place out. I will break this review down into four parts: 1. First impressions: For some reason this restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of the building. The restaurant on the first floor - which was rather lively - was actually another Vietnamese restaurant. You have to walk up a somewhat rickety staircase up to the second floor to get to this restaurant. There is no sign which makes this clear. The decor was somewhat dated. The multicolored table cloths and wall paintings were rather faded. Can't quite put my finger on it, but the atmosphere seemed very subdued and uninviting, literally as if we were interrupting a family dinner / family gathering (in a way, I guess we were) 2. Service: The service was somewhat spotty. For example, I asked the bald Thai gentleman what the difference was between the three soups listed, and his response was "they are different, one has coconut milk." A follow-up question of which soup he recommended was followed by, "depends on what you like." Hmm, You don't say??? 3. Food: Thank goodness the food was actually quite delicious, as the saving grace of our experience here. I got the fish soup which was EXCELLENT. It had solid chunks of fish (a lean type of fish), light cream, and fresh lemongrass. This was extremely savory. She got the shrimp with fresh basil leaves. There were eight shrimp, cleanly butterflied. This was stir fried with a savory mix of zucchini, lemongrass, garlic, bamboo shoots, and of course basil. 42.50 CHF. 4. Recommendation: If you can stomach the "what do you want" kind of service and dated decor, this place may be worth checking out. Skip the water, which is 3 CHF per person (!!)
