Alabama Canine

Alabama Canine

I brought home my new German Shepard two days ago from Alabama Canine. He is AWESOME and…read moreunbelievably well trained!!! I haven't had a dog in over 20 years...and I was nervous...puppies are cute but I knew I needed a dog with a strong foundation in obedience; I wouldn't be very good at housebreaking, keeping off of furniture, chewing, running away with the leash -- and all of those "cute" things that puppies do. After literally years of talking about it, I took a chance and trusted the judgment and skill of Emily Richardson at Alabama Canine. She suggested a puppy with just the right temperament, and then that puppy stayed with her for board and train for a few months. My cuz and I picked him up last Sunday, and then started the 4 day, almost 1800 mile drive home to Las Vegas. He was PERFECT! He spent all day in SUV in his crate, entertaining himself better than most adults on such a long drive. No whining, no barking, no accidents, nothing. He had his deer antler and his squeaky toy....and he really was perfect. Each night at the hotel he always let us know he had to go outside to do his biz. Even though he is still a puppy, and everyday was something new with brand new people, he was always happy and loving -- he LOVES people! We got home two days ago, and he has settled in as if he's lived in Vegas his whole life :-). I asked Emily to train him for the pool in addition to his obedience training....and he is swimming laps! We all have so much fun just watching him chase his ball in the water. But most importantly....Emily spent the time on pick-up day going thru his training with me, wrote down all I needed to know about transferring his training to me, and off we went. Now that we are home, we practice his training every day, and he is so much better behaved than I ever hoped for. Took to his doggie door immediately for the outside biz. Finally, I want to say that Emily texted (is that a word?) me pictures, updates and little videos of his training almost every day -- and it really may have been every single day. I'm so grateful to her and Alabama Canine for my beautiful well-behaved puppy. Sally Miller

Capitol K-9 Dog Training

Capitol K-9 Dog Training

Long story short: Capitol K-9 is the best, and Brian Costelloe is THE GO-TO GUY for dog training!…read more We are expecting our first child in July and just moved back home to Alabama from DC. To prepare for the baby, we needed help with some basic training reinforcement for our two year old Goldendoodle, Maggie. She's a very smart girl, but very stubborn, and after countless hours of research, we found Capitol K-9. Thank God we did. We are amazed with Brian's work on our dog's behavior, obedience and overall temperament since her ten-day training session with him. Worth every penny- and his prices are super reasonable to begin with. As any dog owner, we really missed our girl while she was gone. But Brian stayed in regular communication with us about her progress, and we loved getting videos and pictures from him. This was so important to us and she clearly loved Uncle Brian and because he treated her like one of his own. After her initial training session, we're looking forward to bringing her back to Brian for an advanced training session sometime in the near future. Do yourself a favor and call Brian- you'll be so glad you did!

PLEASE remember that young puppies around 12 to 14 weeks old are MUCH easier to train than adult dogs. I can't imagine life without having worked with Carolyn to train my dog, Ollie. She helped make…read moresure Ollie was well behaved both on leash and off. We started with a series of weekly Zoom meetings to practice leash skills before moving to in-person classes to practice off-leash skills. Carolyn would leave us with things to practice during the week and followup with an article that provided extra information in writing. Then the next week, we'd demonstrate how well the new skills were coming, she'd offer feedback, and then we'd move on to the next body of skills. By the end of the classes, I felt comfortable taking Ollie to the park for hikes or the beach for walks. I lean on her training and email advice when tackling new skills like heeling alongside the bike. And to say one more thing: she is developing a very strong community of well behaved off leash dogs that meet regularly for group walks and dog to dog socializing. I never imagined this is the training or community I would leave with when engaging Carolyn for training. I simply wanted a dog that wouldn't jump on visitors, now I have a dog that I can confidently take on trips and out to lunch. I'm forever grateful!

After just one lesson, I learned what I could do to reduce her anxiety, and WOW what a difference in Molly. We only needed one lesson, and within weeks, Molly's behavior had improved so drastically that she was able to go to group play and not snap at other dogs! On walks, she no longer pulls or barks at other dogs. In the house, she's no longer a maniac! Thanks to Carolyn, Molly can relax! We join Carolyn on her group walks--a great time for Molly to socialize and mind her manners while learning to ignore distractions. I HIGHLY recommend taking your dog to Carolyn--puppy, adult, whatever, you will see a difference in your dog's behavior!
