I've been seeing Joy for massages since 2013 and she's honestly the best masseuse I've ever had. She's extremely knowledgeable, is well certified in her career, and constantly excels to educate her on the latest and greatest massage techniques. During our sessions, she works hard on my tight knots and knows exactly my problem areas to focus on. Being a person who had pretty severe lower back pain from school/work, she nursed me back to health and gave me tips on how to stretch and work on my back at home. I ended up getting a foam roller too, and she gave me great tips to stretch on it. Making appointments: Just go online and check her calendar to find a time that works best with your schedule. You enter your email address and your number, and her system will automatically send you email reminders. Facilities: 3rd floor of an office building - there's a little water river/stream in the middle of the building, behind it there's an elevator. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor and make a right. Her room (suite 321) is right next to a CPA office. During your massage, she'll play soothing music and recommend various lotions for aromatherapy. I particularly like chamomile and mint scented ones, it makes it particularly relaxing. Massage: THE BEST, EVER. Period. I've seen a great deal of masseuses in my lifetime. I used to be part of Massage Envy and I would cycle between different people each time I went to the point where I had a track record for never having a set person. That all changed when I met Joy, she's the only person I trust for a massage. I deeply miss her now that I'm in Seattle, I don't know where I can find as good as a massage ever again. I do frequently come back to San Diego to visit, and whenever I do, I always book an appointment with her again! Overall: LOVE HER, she's the best, hands down. You won't find anyone greater and she's the most sincere, honest, and patient person I know. You'll see what I mean when you meet her! read more

Came in for a much needed massage. When you arrive, it's a Wellness building and you take the elevator to the 3rd floor to suite 321. The door was open and Joy greeted me. The room is small, but adequate for the massage. Joy made me comfortable and during my massage I fell asleep. I normally get firm, Thai or deep tissue massage, but it's nice to have a therapeutic once in a while. The only minor issue I had was that I was able to hear people in the hallway since it's a shared business location. The hour went by pretty quick and at the end Joy provided some helpful hints about how to relieve some of the stress and tension in my neck and back. Nice relaxing massage! read more

Used my groupon today with Joy at Zen Temple Wellness. She is very, very good. As good or better than massages I received in the beach cabana's in Hawaii! I asked if we could work on all areas, especially the neck, shoulders and feet. Just a wonderful experience. You know when you have received a superior massage: You feel relaxed and sleepy and your body feels "loosey, goosey." Another couple things I liked about this massage: The oil she used didn't feel sticky or oily on my skin or into my hairline and the hot towel treatments on your back! Thank you Joy for an amazing body massage! I will be back! read more

It is so refreshing to go to a licensed massage therapist who actual knows what she's doing. She is knowledgable and understands how to not only provide a massage that feels amazing but also one that benefits your over all well- being. She listens to your needs as well as provides a very comfortable setting from having a variety of aroma therapies, hot towels and even allows you to choose your own music. Very relaxing, I felt amazing afterwords. read more

Sigh... I really don't want to write this review because of you repeating clients take up all of my appointment times! The last thing I want to do is to refer more clients to Joy and I'll never get to book an appointment Ruth her. 5 stars, people, it's the real deal. Joy has more than a decade of experience which really shows from the moment you meet her to the time you leave. She helped me with my dominant shoulder which I abused through repetitive tasks from work and years of semi competitive tennis. I had deep tissue massages from her which alleviated my pain and extended my range of motion around my rotator cuff (helped my tennis tremendously). Her ability to feel and see muscles is amazing, she'd prod at areas in my back and ask me if it's tender, she gets it right every time! She helped me with my lower back, shoulder, neck, even my legs (itb inflammation from half marathon training).  I love her treatment so much I referred my wife for her neck and shoulder pain. We both got a package for 5 visits that we can share (just take it out of our account after each visit). She is not pushy on having you comeback, she lets her skills do the talking, you will want to come back.  Booking is hard because spots are filled up fast, I recommend getting a package and book ahead multiple days. But I tell you, if you go through the trouble, it will be worth it. read more

I am a regular customer of Zen Temple Wellness. An update is in order 3 months has gone by. I hit a rough patch and i am always able to get in with Joy. She is compassionate and available. I am constantly seeing my own clients and working on myself and healing my own issues. When i get stuck i go see Joy. She is very intuitive and knows how to listen through the conversation and she gives feedback on insights that were in my blind spots. I really appreciate this. Also it is very important for me to receive touch therapy from her. I am very sensitive and deep massage is not uplifting for me. I go to Joy for touch therapy and she will do my palms of my hands and pressure points on my feet that relieve my whole entire body. Thanks Joy, I highly recommend Joy for all of her services. I love the Reiki A LOT! I could go on and on. I am blessed to have Joy in my life. :) Happy and Relieved. read more

I have had back pain from an auto accident for almost a decade since the accident. The Pain Scale is anywhere between one and four on a daily basis. Joy worked on me and I felt incredible. The days to follow my treatment my back pain was between 0 and .05. Amazing!!! I have scheduled a second appointment.. - Gary P. read more

I found this place via Groupon. I have always been curious about Reiki & wanted to try it. I finally was able to; thanks to the great deal that was offered. I'm so grateful!!! Joy encompasses her name, man. I walked in and the place is so cute & her "vibe" is just so peaceful. I felt like I was in a safe space immediately & had to stop myself from spilling all my secrets. :) She just has that "way" about her. I am a fan of Reiki after the 1 visit and will def. return for that service and also for massages eventually, too. She took the time to sit down before the session & lay out my expectations / ask if I had concerns / etc. I look forward to returning! read more

My experience with Joy was excellent and I will definitely be returning. I've had many, many massages and Joy's expertise and professionalism/attention to detail sets her apart from most. After going over my concerns/medical history, and before she began the massage, she asked how the temperature of the room was, how the music was, and how much pressure I preferred. These are the details that helped made the experience outstanding and I was impressed. The massage was exactly what I was looking for (deep tissue, full body with focus on tense areas) and I could tell that Joy was experienced and skilled. She provided me with feedback after the massage about areas where I was tense and suggestions for stretches to reduce my tension, and this was very helpful. read more

Hey all! I run an outdoor fitness company at UTC Nobel Athletic Park, so Zen Temple Wellness is the perfect place for me to send my clients to get a massage. (not to mention, get my own massages!!) Some standout things from my experience of Joy are: - She takes the time to help me get settled in, and really get to know where I am mentally, physically, and emotionally in that moment before we start. She then can customize the massage on my needs, but also on what she finds. - When I send clients to her, I'm literally putting my reputation on the line. Joy over delivers, though! I sent her one of my best clients last week and she did a phenomenal job helping out with an old shouder injury my client had. Joy took the time to get to know him, and also after the massage, to make recommendations on how he could speed up his recovery. Joy is great, she cares, she's got a ton of experience (she was a trainer way back, before she did massage), and I definitely recommend her. Thanks Joy, I'll be back! Shawn read more

I'm not often motivated to write a Yelp review but this service definitely deserves it. The "Temple" is cosy and warm and comfortable. Joy is so much more knowledgeable than the average Massage Therapist. She truely is a master! And the cost is the same! The temple is in a nice office building just off the freeway with a parking lot. I have had cronic pain in my hip area due to a workout injury several years ago. I kept thinking if I go easy, it will heal but it kept getting worse and recently I just ached all the time even when trying to sleep! Joy listened to me and did her assessment and then she went to work. That evening I was amazed that I had no pain! She gave me some exercises to do ("homework") to help heal the area and keep the pain at bay. YAY Joy! You are a true professional and expert at what you do! I highly recommend Zen Temple Wellness to anyone who is looking for real pain relief! read more

I saw Joy for a prenatal massage and reiki treatment. She truly is a miracle worker and her Reiki abilities are off the charts. I'm familiar with Reiki and have had it many times and she is such a gifted masseuse and healer. I left relaxed and emotionally lifted for weeks and really felt it was her combo reiki/massage. I enjoyed it so much I'm now a return client. Her first time client special is really good too. read more

I would highly recommend Joy and Zen Temple Wellness! Every time I see Joy, I leave refreshed, energized, and relaxed. She is an expert in her field and always goes the extra mile to work with my hectic schedule and makes sure I take care of myself so I can be at my best for my work. If you are looking for the best massage therapist in San Diego, look no further. You found her! I also love that at Zen Temple you don't have to deal with all the nonsense of a big corporate spa. All the of time allotted to my treatment is spent on me, rather than on sitting around in a waiting area like I have experienced at some of the larger spas. Joy is one of the most compassionate and positive people I have ever met, she truly cares about her clients and I feel lucky to have found Zen Temple Wellness! read more

She's wonderful. I've seen many massage therapists over the years (trying to keep some chronic lower back pain at bay), and can wholeheartedly say that Joy is the real deal. The trigger point work was fantastic, and it was instantly obvious that she was actually addressing the underlying cause of discomfort. She went above and beyond providing me with additional information regarding techniques/stretches that could be done at the house, and this is just one of the many reasons why I will certainly be returning. read more

Joy is a great massage therapist! She has an extensive background in nutrition and fitness and definitely can give you great tips. She is also super sweet and is great to vent to. I will be back! read more

Finally a masseuse that can tell the perfect amount of pressure. Being able to understand which spots can be more painful or where to put more pressure is important! She completely saved my back, and I left feeling great (not in pain as with some other deep tissue massages). I had a great experience and will be coming back. read more

Good vibes from Joy. The Reiki session was so relaxing, I fell asleep:)

One of the best massages I have had in San Diego. Joy has a great balance of being very warm and caring while still being professional/efficient- seems to really care about you, yet not wasting your time either. I really appreciate how she doesn't just go through the motions or do the same thing each time- when she finds a tight area, she takes time to really work on it, and even comes back to those spots later. Amazing massage and peaceful experience all around- highly recommend! read more

I have known Joy for three years now and she is a loving person with an amazing ability. Joy is a gifted healer and psychic, and I always receive incredible insight and support from her that helps me progress in my spiritual development. Last time I saw her she gave me an Angel card reading that was on point, greatly assisting me in what I was experiencing at that time. On top of being an amazing Tarot card reader, she also offers single question e-mail readings which is great for when you need a quick and easy answer to a specific question. Being a massage therapist, Reiki Master, psychic, and life coach, Zen Temple Wellness is truly a one stop shop for those looking for healing of the mind, body, and spirit. Thank you, Joy! You're amazing. :) read more

I have had chronic lower back pain for years and nothing I have done in the past seemed to work. That is, until I went to see Joy. Not only did her techniques help my back feel 100x better, but she was also extremely thorough in her explanations and in providing me with additional treatments that I can do on my own on a daily basis to treat my back. Her knowledge, experience, and thoroughness are unmatched. I would recommend Zen Temple Wellness to anyone! read more

I've had many different massages and experienced many different results. Joy at Zen is one of if not the best in alleviating some of my pain. She was professional, courteous, and used the tight amounts of pressure in various muscle areas. She explained what some of my difficulties were, gave suggestions and again was professional and I felt she focused on the causes of my pain. I would highly recommend Zen to others read more

My massage experience with Joy was amazing. First off, all previous massages from other therapists, pale in comparison. I won't go anywhere else, ever again! She listened to me and did a great job identifying where to focus our efforts during our session. She used techniques new to me and ended up being highly effective. I'll be adding Joy's services into my on-going health and wellness regimen and highly recommend you do the same! Thanks Joy for being awesome! read more

Joy was a wonderful masseuse. She immediately identified my problem areas and gave them an excellent workout during our session. After the service, she gave me some recommendations to help me between bodywork sessions. It's not easy to find a masseuse who works well with your body. I left the session feeling great and looking forward to my next visit! read more

I have had many massages and the massage therapist invariably says they can't get me to totally relax in my shoulders and neck, which is where I feel stress. No problem with this with Joy. She used a number of different techniques combined to really get this area to totally relax and get rid of any lingering stiffness in my neck. Amazing... and the beneficial effects really lasted. I found Joy by chance when googling for Reiki. Joy was the first to come up and I booked with her. At the time I wasn't looking specifically for a medium or an intuitive coach but Joy just so happens to do all of that as well. I have been attending sessions with Joy since March 2018 and I can confidentially say that she is one of the most genuine, authentic, sweetest people I have ever met. Finding her has been a true blessing in my life. I sought Joy out during a time of despair and she has helped me through a lot of healing since then. Not only has she helped me heal my soul but she has taught me tools that I can use to live a life I am happy living. She helped bring me peace when my dog died and she's helped me understand things about myself that I thought I would never be able to figure out. Whatever service you are looking for from Joy, I would give her a 10 out 10 recommendation. You will not be disappointed. read more
