The restaurant was pretty full so not sure how long it would take if we waited. The restaurant is inside a plaza with some other stores and restaurants but there was plenty of space even in the evening. They have a happy hour menu from 7 to 10 pm on Saturdays, but they differ depending on the day. They have some appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu, so we tried the gyoza, mochi and side tempura. The mochi had a house made sauce glaze that was sweet and salty, and came with nori as a wrap. The texture of the mochi was really soft and chewy. The gyoza were really crispy with a soft interior. We ended up ordering a second round of them. The tempura was nicely fried with not too much batter. The shrimp was really succulent and I liked that they have mushroom tempura too. From their regular menu, we ordered a bunch of food. I tried the yaki-onigiri ochazuke with salmon, fried chicken skin, the eggplant and various skewers. The fried chicken skin was really nice and crispy, and came with a ponzu sauce and mayo to dip in. The yaki onigiri was nicely grilled and still had crispy bits when submerged in the soup. I was really excited that they have shishamo/smelt. It was nicely roasted and didn't have any overtly fishy flavor. Everyone at my table really enjoyed their food. I'd definitely come back here to try their other dishes!

The menu is built around yakitori, grilled seafood, fried dishes, and other small plates meant to be shared over drinks. We had the kurobuta pork sausages, grilled whole squid, chicken thigh skewer, shishito peppers with bonito flakes, grilled corn, and crispy panko-fried shrimp. Everything was simply prepared, properly cooked, and excellent. The squid was beautifully charred, the sausages were plump and blistered, and the shrimp were exceptionally crisp. We washed it all down with a bottle of chilled junmai sake. A nice touch: they bring over a basket filled with mismatched ceramic and glass sake cups so everyone can choose their own. Excellent food, comfortable atmosphere, and a welcome reminder that Japanese cuisine offers much more than sushi and ramen.

The restaurant looks great inside. It's lively, everyone seems to be having a good time, and the energy immediately sets the tone for the meal. The menu is impressively extensive, and the service is remarkably efficient. Like Leichi and Gochi, Tanto rewards adventurous ordering with its focus on traditional izakaya fare. Step away from the usual sushi and have some fun with the menu. We ordered the ankimo, mentaiko pasta, kaki fry, buta kakuni, ika meshi, and Shingen ice cream. It was plenty for two and could work for three lighter eaters. Everything was tasty, and choosing a favorite was difficult. Gun to my head, I'm ordering the mentaiko pasta every time. It strikes the perfect balance between creamy and briny, which is surprisingly hard to get right. Overall, Tanto is a great choice for adventurous eaters who enjoy trying a little bit of everything. I'm already looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu.

I would not expect top tier restaurant quality fish, but still good quality that is good for the price. It is a great show stopping piece! It's takeout only, which made ordering super easy. We ordered online and even scored a discount through a special on their website. We got the Salmon Lover for two and the two-person combo sushi boat. We split everything between four people and still had leftovers! The fish was incredibly fresh, with generous portions. My favorite poke was the spicy mango tuna--so flavorful. They even include a mini bottle of soy sauce, which was such a cute touch. There are plenty of sides to choose from, and you get a really good amount of rice. The sushi boat is definitely on the pricier side, and I was a bit skeptical at first because of the packaging. I wasn't sure if the quality would live up to the presentation, but it absolutely did. The packaging is not only fun but also super functional--perfect for taking to the beach, a park, or a party.

It had an upscale vibe, but it was in the lobby of a hotel! The menu was interesting -- Japanese whiskey cocktails mainly -- and some food items. If you ask, you can get a little dish of nuts as a complimentary snack with your cocktails. The cocktails were delicious, like the "East Meets West", with most cocktails ranging from $16-20. They have a separate menu for wine and champagne that they brought us awhile later. I think you may need to ask for that if they don't give that to you right away. The drinks were delicious and made pretty quickly, but if you expect table service at this lounge, you may be waiting a long time. We found that the best way to get drinks here is to go to the bar to order, and they can bring the drinks over (or you can wait for them, of course). For the price, I'd expect better service but you may need to go further than Sunnyvale. Overall I think Nokori is a decent bar lounge, and I love the niche is on Japanese whiskey.

However, my boyfriend was not a fan of pork belly and seafood, so he was wary to try any okonomiyaki. He finally chose to try their steak rice bowl, because there is no way you can go wrong with steak and rice, right? Well, to our surprise, his choice turned out to be his worst meal he ever paid for. The rice was not hot enough, or I could say, room temperature. There were a bunch of raw white onions and pickles in it, I guess they were the culprit for the room temperature rice. The onion and pickle smell and taste were just too strong that we could barely had any taste of the rice and the steak themselves. Basically, we felt like we were biting a whole white onion fresh from the grocery bag. We also ordered gyoza and chicken karaage, which I think they were frozen and reheated in microwave. The chicken meat was rubbery and tasteless. We did not finish any of them and didn't even want to pack the leftover to-go. Service was okay. We were seated right away but waited for a while to make an order. We didn't really have a designated server. The one that seated us and took our order was really knowledgable in terms of giving recommendation. But we didn't see him again after that, and some other servers helped us during our dine-in.

The food itself was already disappointing, but the service and seating situation made the experience even worse. I even moved my chair out of the way to give them more space, but the staff still kept bumping into it as they walked by. If the table is in such a busy walking area, maybe consider moving it or rearranging the space so customers can actually eat comfortably without constantly being bumped into? I really hope the restaurant improves both the food quality and the seating arrangement because this was not a pleasant dining experience.
