Zen Salon & Spa - Love my color and cut! JoAnn did a great job creating this fun fall look! - Hair Salons Near Me - Plainfield, Illinois

I have been a Zen customer for over three years (since moving to the area). JoAnn, the owner, is an amazing stylist. On my first visit, I went in with shoulder length hair, and told her I wanted to go short. She took the time to listen to what I wanted, patiently looked at pictures I brought in, and then worked her magic. She has taken the time over the years to get to know me as a person. We always have great conversations...making me feel like more than just another customer in her chair. A haircut is a little pricey...but what isn't pricey these days? I'm happy to pay a premium price for a premium cut AND premium service. read more

Lindsey is amazing! I first saw her after I had my haircut somewhere else and wasn't happy with the end result. She added some texture and it totally transformed my cut! I went back to see her a few months later to go from overgrown blonde balayage to lowlights. She did such an amazing job! I was concerned that going darker would enhance the red tones in my hair, but she completely prevented that from happening and achieved the perfect ash brown balayage I was looking for. read more

There are many simple easy pleasures in life. The first sip of your favorite coffee, birds chirping in spring, a fresh coat of nail polish to keep us looking our best. And for some others it's a fresh haircut/style or a cool new outfit. The new beautiful outlet you (Lindsey) provided to me gave me back my crown! It was a priceless gift. I was on and off tears leaving and driving in to work (which I made it with 5 minutes to spare ) Some would argue it's just hair...but I feel like it's my crown and you just polished and helped straighten mine for me. I feel absolutely fabulously beautiful! Thank you my friend- always! read more

I've been going here for years--no matter where I live I continue to come back. Joann, the owner, is fabulous and does an amazing job of balancing what I want with her expertise and experience. She's been doing my mom's hair since college but she is always keeping up with the trends and new styles. Every appointment is worth the wait to get in. read more

love this place & the people. Kelly is the best!!! Relaxed atmosphere & they've put up with me for as long as they've been open.

I got full foil highlights with Ariseli today. I liked that she took the time to understand what I was looking for before starting. All of the stylists were dressed cute for the holidays today and they even had some holiday cookies. The front staff was very friendly and offered beverages when I checked in. I decided to find a new salon because others in the area cost me $200-250. I know the price is dependent on work, hair, foils, etc but this was in the $120-$150 range and took 2 hours. Overall I'm very pleased with both Ariseli and her work and also the salon itself. I'll be coming back here to get my hair done. I added some before and after photos of my roots becoming blended in. read more

I wasn't unhappy with my old salon, but I saw a sign at MPG Fitness (next door) advertising a free haircut with any color service with Lindsey. I don't know how longer this offer is valid, but it was a GREAT deal. I am so happy with my hair! As soon as I sat in the chair, Lindsey fluffed her fingers through my hair and quickly said, "okay, I'm going to go mix up some color." I loved that she was so confident and just knew exactly what to mix up. Granted, my highlights are blonde now, and I am naturally dark blonde...it's not that complicated. And Lindsey herself has great hair. Confidence + great hair = great stylist. Don't trust a stylist with bad hair. My highlights turned out the shade of blonde I wanted. In the past, it always came out a bit too platinum and a bit too monochrome for my liking. Lindsey did a great job, and I didn't even mention my prior concerns. We talked briefly about my haircut: take off about an inch, trim up the bangs, add some layers. Again, Lindsey nailed it. In the past, my hair appointments (cut + color) have taken almost three hours. I was shocked to be in and out of Zen in only two hours! NOTE: You cannot add a tip to your credit or debit card. Tips are cash or check only. There is an ATM in the Nevins Brewing Company, a few doors down. Luckily, I was aware of this before I arrived since I read the Yelp reviews, but I did overhear a client caught by surprise. When inside the salon, the only indication is a 3x5 sign by the cash register. I can honestly say that Zen Salon & Spa is going to be my primary salon for cut & color. My "old" salon was great, but Zen's prices are ever-so-slightly less and closer to home. read more

I wish I could give this less than 1 star. I brought my daughter in for a Homecoming hair style, the stylist was rude and had to keep re-doing her hair, the picture of what we wanted and what actually was done is a far cry from even close. she has blond hair and she used black bobby pins. her braids were falling out and her bun had to be completely taken out and re- done as it was falling over by the time we got home. her curls were out within an hour of leaving the salon. $70.00 and a tip, what a disappointment, and terrible customer service. Save yourself the money and disappointment and go somewhere else. read more

I cannot speak enough about this place! I've been coming here for a few years now, and Lindsey has been my stylist. She is incredible!!! She knows exactly what I want, and how I like my hair. She is so accommodating, and always gets me in last minute when I need it. I am so thankful to have found my person! The salon is beyond clean, the staff is so friendly. They treat you like you're family, and when you walk in, they know exactly who you are! It's rare to find a place like this, and an owner like Joann! I highly recommend Zen Salon! read more

Finally went to get a hair cut since having a baby, she's now almost two so if was definitely needed! Jen was great! She fixed my mess that I call hair and was super friendly. My hair had been driving me nuts for months. I moved last year and my old salon is now 40 minutes away, and I'm way too lazy for that kind of commute. I've put off finding a new place/stylist because *WHOA, SCARY!* Going in blind is terrifying. I've come out looking like a news anchor with the hair helmet or the prototypical soccer mom, which just isn't my style. Eventually, I couldn't wait anymore, and I called for an appointment. I was assigned to Jen (JEN AT ZEN!) and she was really great. She's personable, she took my desire to keep my length into account while getting rid of the damage my haircut apathy caused. My hair looked loads better, and I got some quality socializing in at the same time. To top it off, the cost was completely reasonable. These are the things I need to declare salon victory. One little warning -- while they accept credit cards for services, they request you provide tips in cash, so make sure you've got some before going in! read more

I've been here probably five times. The first stylist I had (two years ago) was condescending and rude but did a good job. I later found she left. The second stylist botched my style, so I called to complain (not sure if she's there anymore). Kelly, the owner, is great and fixed it for free. Since then I've always requested Kelly. She's very personable and does a great job. Because the risk is high and I don't want another mess-up, I'll only ever go to Kelly. her schedule is busy though so I really have to plan ahead. This is a good salon and uses Aveda products. read more

Was surprised that I didn't find any reviews for this place, because this place is awesome. They have great customer service, in a great location, and met some great customers too! I went there to have my legs waxed by Sally, who is awesome! She gets you to forget about the slight sting by getting you to talk, which I think is great. There is no uncomfortable silence. Everyone seemed happy here. I met with the manager briefly as I was checking out, and she gave me a welcome gift because I was a new customer. I'm glad I gave this place a chance, without seeing any reviews. Make sure you bring cash for your gratuity because they don't add it to your credit card. I know they do hair, and nails. Check out their website! read more

I've gone here numerous times and so has my mom... Being in my early 20's and extremely picky about who cuts my hair, I absolutely would recommend anyone to this place! Especially to Elaine (one of the stylists). I feel like they actually listen to me about what I want done to my hair whenever I've gotten a highlight and haircut. I also feeling this place is appealing to all ages because my mom who is in her mid-40's wont go anywhere but here. I don't really know why someone would assume that the stylists talk about you especially while they are in front of you... I've never had that happen! Try it out! :) and ask for Elaine :D read more

5 stars aren't enough for Lindsey. Not only is she GREAT at coloring and her job, she makes you feel like your family. She's very professional and you can tell she loves her job, loves what she does because she's AMAZING at it and you can tell she cares about you. I feel as though I should make another review just to give her 10 stars. Thanks for your great work and making me feel beautiful... inside and out. I always walk out feeling better about myself thanks to her. read more

I've been coming to this salon since I was 18 and decided to dye my own blonde hair brown...well my first experience here is what keeps me coming back. My first stylist was John, he fixed my mess and got me back to my blonde hair. He left and I tried a couple of other stylists and recently found one I will stick with! Ashley. You are amazing girl! I may regret putting her name on here but she has done such a nice job with my hair that I have to brag about it. I'm naturally a darker blonde, so I get warmer blonde put in it. A warmer light blonde and a warmer low light blonde. I've had other stylists attempt to do this without success, and Ashley nailed it the first time! Zen is expensive just like any other salon but the quality is worth it. read more

I went to Zen Spa for the first time yesterday to get a no chip manicure done for my upcoming wedding. I made an appointment in advance for 7:00 and arrived a few minutes before. When I walked in I was told that manicurist was just finishing up and would be with me in a few minutes. So I sat down and waited. My patience began to wane after 25 minutes. I went back up to the receptionist to ask how much longer it would be. She went to find out and told me it would be about another 5 minutes. By this point I was rather annoyed. Personally I don't think making a customer with an appointment wait 30 minutes is very professional. During the entire time not one person apologized for the delay or seemed at all concerned either. If they would have just told me she was running 30 minutes behind schedule I could have run a few errands and come back. I'm no unreasonable, but as I said my wedding is coming up so I have a lot of other things to do and sitting in a salon starring at their hair products is not one of them. The manicurist was friendly and it turned out fine, but they have a very limited color selection and I didn't leave feeling very satisfied with the color. All I wanted was a simple pale pink/nude color which I would have thought would be standard, but no such luck. Beyond that, I still have to file some rough corners down on my nails when I got home. Overall, this will be my first and last visit to this salon. read more

Some of these reviews are based on color or styling, however I came here to get a haircut. I wanted a shorter look and I came to see Jackie. She seemed busy before I got there and also after I left, could be why she did not give me the attention I deserved. For the price that I paid, my haircut was not worth it. $50 total with tip. I should have known to not get the haircut after she told me that she does use the texurizing scissors, instead she just cuts the ends. Either she does not know how to use it, or she does not have any available. Either way, stylist should just be honest and give the customer what they request. I really wanted her to use the texurizing scissors since I have a lot of thick hair. I felt like she simply washed my hair, cut a few snips, and dried it. I am not kidding. In addition, I wanted my bangs to be fixed or do something different. (since I had a very short bang that it had begun to grow and looking weird). She said there was nothing she could do. I couple days later I went to my regular stylist and he cut it with a texurizer and put my bangs the other way to fix the current ones. I was also awkward making small talk with her and maybe she is just new and is not so comfortable with hair, not sure. Regardless this place is overpriced and maybe I just got the wrong person to do my hair. read more

I've been coming to Zen with Becca for a few years now. I really like everything Becca has done for me from cuts, color, brow waxes and even Keratin or Brazilian treatments. She always seems to know what will work for me. I trust her and feel comfortable doing what she suggests. I've sent friends and now bring my daughter to Becca, who have all been satisfied with her work. I think the prices are fair in comparison to the salon I used to go to in Naperville. read more

I was lucky enough to be scheduled with Becca on my first visit. She was funny, talented, and listened to my needs. I was really happy with my haircut and now I've been seeing Becca regularly for over 2 years. The salon does a good job of calling the day before to remind me of my appointments, and are good about rescheduling, if needed. I always walk away with a great experience and would definitely recommend them to others. In fact, I recommended Becca to my wife to do her hair for our wedding last summer. After meeting and doing hair trials with several other stylists, my wife said she finally found someone she trusted and listened to what she wanted. Their prices are very reasonable and the hours are great for me, since I usually work late into the evening. read more

It was my first time here yesterday and not happy about it. I know that $26 for a haircut is still cheaper if I went to Tricoci. I was surprised that within 5 minutes, my haircut is done? It looks like I went to SuperCut or Great Clips. I think my stylist was in a hurry. She never took a closer look at my hair. Told her that can you fix this side? Can you blend it well? But glad that at the end she asked me if I want some hair products on my hair. read more
