I have never met a person so full of himself. Meet Giovanni... In his mind he is the Maestro of hair. LOL!! He doesn't greet you and acts like hes doing you a favor. His haircut was just average but after he was finished, he said.."You will never find a stylist as good as me" Really? LOL!! He also tried to charge me twice for coloring my hair piece after he did it wrong the first time. (Money-grubber) What's next is the topper though. Can you imagine? I was a new client, and he didn't know me at all but felt he needed to share that he has these house rentals on the side and only rents to older white people. (You see, he said his listing agent has a way of working around IT) Wow! I think he thought that because I'm white and old that I would be ok with hearing this. read more

Saw Giovanni on Facebook and decided to give him a call. Got Martin as my stylist, and a great haircut. I am moving back to Illinois and will be going back to Martin. I never leave reviews but I absolutely have to. If you are a blonde and want platinum white hair. DO NOT COME HERE! When I first called and spoke with the receptionist, she was very friendly and I told her about my hair and made it a point if they have stylists that can do white blondes. She said yes and reassured me because as we all know not everyone can do white blonde hair properly . I barely had any root growth so it wasn't a hard touch up. Anyway when I get there I was late because there's no big sign, my gps was taking me in circles and I'm not familiar with area. I finally found it lol. The stylist greeted me and seemed confused when I sat down. Apparently the receptionist booked me as a partial highlight when I was told I was being booked for a root retouch, toner, and blow out. So the stylist was not in the best mood but that is not my fault what the receptionist did. It says on the website they strive to give a luxury experience, well I've been to luxury salons and it's not luxury by any means. I should've known when the receptionist told me the prices I would not be satisfied with my hair ‍ She had another stylist blow dry me and didn't even ask how I like my hair parted so I told her. She could tell I wasn't happy with my hair. I've been getting white blonde for yearrrrsss. I'm new to area so was trying to find a new salon that could do blonde hair and I think maybe places should be honest because there's a difference between white and yellow and white and gray. I walked out with YELLOW ROOTS and dark gray hair. Literally darker hair than I came in with. My roots were dirty blonde and barely any growth to where it would be difficult by any means. Whatever toner the stylist put in my hair will not fade at all. And whatever they used on roots was damaging. Even the vibe by the stylist made it a bad experience. I didn't call and complain because it was $90 plus I did tip $10 only because that's a low tip for me. I was planning to tip $100 but to know what I wanted and to tell me how white it was when washing then when it was blow dried to look how it did, I mean I could tell when it was wet my roots were yellow and hair dark gray JUST WOW! Only gave a 2 star because owner seemed friendly however didn't greet me. Maybe because I was dressed down and he was judging. Wrong person to judge. I'm a customer that tips well, brings clients and buys products from salon. I was very mislead by receptionist, stylist, and reviews. read more

Giovanni has been my stylist for close to 15 years. 15. YEARS! Think about that...Usually we girls switch stylists every 3-5 years because they get stale. Giovanni never gets stale. He is always on the cutting edge of what is new, current and cutting techniques that make me always look great. I consistently have people stop me on the street and ask where I get my hair cut. Not only is the initial cut great, but it grows out very well as well. He has a great group if stylists as well. Nadine has cut my hair when Gio is not available and she was awesome as well. I had a great experience at Salon Giovanni this past Friday, and I feel compelled to tell the world all about it. Thankfully for you, describing a positive hair cutting experience is not exactly a lengthy ordeal. Rejoice. A friend of mine comes here, and having been overdue for a trim, I decided to take the plunge. There is typically a period with haircuts where my opinion of them swings wildly from love to hate. I always love the way that I look coming out of the salon, and then am quickly disappointed when I realize that I have no idea how to make my fresh new cut look nearly as good as the person who styled it for me only days prior. I certainly encountered this sensation after visiting Salon Giovanni, but I can't pretend to be too upset. Giovanni provided a professional recommendation and I was more than satisfied with what he provided! It will no doubt tide me over for the time being. While my own dissatisfaction with my hairline is my problem to deal with, I genuinely felt like Giovanni was attentive to my needs and provided me with a style that was fitting of my circumstances. If I had any intention of proceeding with something other than a crew cut in the future, I would definitely come back to Salon Giovanni. read more

I absolutely love going to this salon; a hidden treasure in Plainfield to be sure! The owner, Giovanni and his father Marty treat you like family. I had the privilege of having my hair cut several times by an up and coming hair stylist, Tori. Not only did she give me the exact hair cut and style I requested, but the cut was so good that when I blow dry it myself, it looks as good as when she styled it! Easily one of the best salon experiences I've ever had. I was running late as usual, but that didn't seem to bother anyone. I was greeted by Giovanni immediately and he was just awesome! Amazing artist for one, and quite informative! I have a long but thin and fine hair type(1a/1b), and he was able to tell me why certain techniques or products prove difficult for my home styling. He completely updated someone who would only do their own hair or only trust close friends. I'm less afraid to trust someone else with my hair. I'm happy to have found someone I can go to! Music playlist was completely in line with my tastes, which put me at ease. The decor is super clean and has Chic retro touches. I was surprised that most of the patrons and two workers were not wearing a mask. This is a very small shop therefore very important that this is done. I was fortunate that Nadine who cut my hair was wearing a mask and did an amazing job. While I understand it is not always convenient to wear a mask while getting your haircut it is something that is mandatory. Again Nadine did a wonderful job this review reflects the fact that this shop thinks it is ok to allow their patrons and workers to not wear masks. read more

I don't live in Illinois anymore but when I go back to visit family every 6 months or so I always get a cut and color with Giovanni or Marty. I won't let anyone else touch my hair.
