The glowing reviews on Google and the gorgeous images on her website unequivocally speak to the talent and professionalism of Heather Crowder and her photography. Additionally, she is a beautiful and delightful person. Earlier this year I needed new professional headshots. I fumbled around the internet trying to find the right photographer for me and then I received a graduation announcement in the mail that included a stunning photo of the graduate taken by Heather Crowder. At that point I was positive that Heather Crowder was my photographer of choice. I subsequently looked at her website and the Google reviews which further bolstered my confidence in her abilities and my choice. I had several email exchanges and phone calls with Heather in advance of my session and all of them were warmhearted and beneficial. I felt well prepared and at ease with Heather when picture day rolled around! I also used the professional hair and makeup artist provided by Heather and she was top notch! Generally, I would much rather go to the dentist or jury duty than get my picture taken but Heather made it a comfortable experience and my images turned out better than I could have imagined! Heather knows how to give directions for the perfect, flattering pose. She also reads body language well and could tell when a pose felt unnatural for me or I was getting tired or too warm. Heather's talent goes beyond the camera. On the day of my session Heather helped me pick out my outfits and assisted me with getting jewelry on, rolling cuffs, etc. I really appreciated having her help me with these details. I also appreciate that she understands branding and knows how to create photos that represent one's person brand. She wants everyone to look and feel like the best version of themselves and she was instrumental in helping me achieve that. I had my photos taken at the lovely Lightbox Studio in the Annapolis Arts District on West Street. The studio place is bright, contemporary and inspiring but for those who prefer another location, Heather can accommodate that as well. Regarding the Lightbox Studio, there is some nearby street parking and a garage about a block away so that was convenient. I love my portraits taken by Heather and I hightly recommend her!

My wife and I searched high and low for a vendor to complement our photographer and capture our May 2007 wedding. We found expensive ones with a lot of unnecessary bells and whistles and then we found John Rose. Our first meeting was in a MD chain restaurant. He reminded me of a car salesman who was learning the ropes. He was nervous and he was just starting his own business. However he brought a mini dvd player and showed us a sample dvd of his past weddings. He offered more affordable packages and a greater sense of photojournalism. My wife and I shopped around and thought that the other vendors did not fit our budget or style. We took a gamble on our man. I enjoyed working with him before, during and after the ceremony and reception. I don't remember saying more than 4 words to him and his team the entire night; he and the equipment were incognito. He also worked well with our photographer (sometimes vendors can "fight" for better shots). Our final product, received within 2.5 months, is a work of art, from the DVD case design to the chapter menus and footage. It's like watching a movie (not just Uncle Bob's raw footage). Although he is located in MD and serves primarily MD, DC and VA, he is willing to travel for a nominal fee. I would be willing to answer questions (PM me) and vouch for him. So when we started to look for a wedding photographer, we thought of him first. He's slightly more expensive than others, but he is worth every penny spent! If possible, I would recommend talking to him before even booking your venue because he's so experienced with the DMV area and knows so many good venues that would be photogenic. He's responsive, on time, and very professional. For example, on our wedding day, my mother's makeup was running late, but my wife wanted to get a picture with her before we headed out to the first look. Based on his years' experience, Carl immediately told the makeup artist just to put on the lipstick first for my mother and snapped a few shots for us. Even now, my mother still mentions how great and decisive he was that day! Carl was funny, decisive/efficient, and great with all my wedding party (including our 3-year-old flower girl), as well as with both sides of parents. His ability to speak Mandarin Chinese was the cherry-on-top, as he could communicate with many of our guests that way! His assistant Chuck (who covered me & the groomsmen during getting-ready) was also excellent; he made sure we all felt comfortable and natural in front of the camera by laughing along with us and being extremely personable. And with the extra hour we paid for his shooting, we ended up getting quite a few more really good pics.
