I had the wonderful experience of reviewing Zen Day in San Francisco this past week. The spa is a cozy salon located in the colorful Haight district of the city. Upon arrival, I was greeted cheerfully by the kind technicians as we went over the services I'd receive. They adhere to all Covid protocols and require mask worn for everyone upon entering. I choose the Aroma-luxe Facial Massage and Essential Pedi w/ Gel Polish. I received my pedicure first and loved absolutely every minute of it. I was treated to a luxurious foot massage that was followed by warm towels and wow.. my feet felt like butter!! My technician was very attentive and took her time to make sure I was comfortable. After the pedi, it was time for my facial. I was ushered upstairs to one of the many private spa rooms. While in the room I was given a fitted towel and headband to change into. The rooms was very spacious and included a facial table as well as a shower for those receiving full body scrubs. The technician prepared me with a light steam and began the facial. The facial was invigorating! I felt my skin tingling from the aromatherapy and a sense of calm as the relaxing music played in the background. The massage was amazing and relieved a lot of my neck and facial tension. I highly recommend for those who sit for a majority of their work day. After the massage was completed, I was handed a warm cup of herbal tea... a perfect ending! The facial massage is 40 minutes and I enjoyed the entire experience. Overall, Zen Day Spa exceeded my expectations! Highly experienced technicians who are professional and cater to their clients needs aren't always easy to find. I am so glad I got to participate in this media visit and cannot wait to visit again real soon!

I discovered Zen Day Spa from a FiveStars recommendation but I was so glad I got my birthday manicure done here with Tracy. They were able to fit me in for an appointment the same day I called. I broke a few of my nails from going to the gym and kickboxing. I was so amazed at Tracy's ability and attention to detail in repairing my nails. She added a tip to my nails, added dip powder to secure the tip, and keep the nails strong and resilient. They don't use acrylic which is awesome because the dipped powder doesn't have the strong, chemical smells and is more flexible and doesn't damage my nails. Tracy takes her time and the results are a gorgeous set of nails that look great and lasts. The entire staffs were very kind and hospitable, they have teas for while you wait. The entire salon is very clean, calm, and quiet. I know Zen Day Spa also does massage, facial, and eyelash extensions services. I haven't tried them yet but I already made another appointment to get another mani done!

Perfect place for a fun bachelorette spa day! My friend is getting married in a few months and we decided to come here for a relaxing getaway to get her mind off of the stress of wedding planning. I came across it on yelp after I saw that they cater to a lot of bachelorette parties. I called ahead and was able to schedule our massage/body wraps/mani/pedis very easily. The receptionist was friendly and explained the differences between all of the treatments available. Since they only had one masseuse that day and we wanted to get our treatments at the same time, one of us opted for the 1-hr Swedish massage and the others got the Volcanic body wraps. Afterwards, we got our mani/pedis up on the second floor. The best part about this place is they let you bring whatever food and drinks you want for group get-togethers and they provide the glasses, plates, napkins and utensils! They even set it up on the table so that everything was ready after our treatments which was so nice of them. The mani/pedis were good and the gel actually lasted for a solid 3 weeks before I took them off since they grew out. Barely any chipping at all! Bring cash for an extra discount and be sure to come here for your next relaxing getaway!

Amazing service, hard worker, covid safe All their polishes are well organized on the wall so that they can easily find each polish and they are efficient They did an amazing job! I have special occasion coming up. I decided to get my nail longer , they are recommended me new way and better for my nails. They haven't list it on their menu yet. So I got Gel extension nails. This Gel extension with the fake nail cover your entire nail instead of just only the tips, and apply with gel polish. It's feels lighter , feel like your real nail and last long as well. It is not acrylic nails.! Would definitely recommend this place

My girlfriends threw my Buttday Spa Day here at Zen (THANKS GIRLS!). It was so nice that we were able to set up a 'munchies' area in their lobby area, complete with cheese, salamis, crackers, cookies, fruits and they even had a champagne stand to cool our champagne and sparkling cider with. It was all a very nice touch. I had my massage with Miyako. She was very quiet but man, her hands were amazing! It was sooo relaxing I was trying so hard to stay awake so I could enjoy the massage! The heated bed was divine. Her hands were just so soft yet effective in getting all my knots out! I walked out there like a wet noodle! It was FABULOUS! The party lasted from 10am-3pm. Quite a long time but they were very gracious in making sure we had everything right for our party (ice, cups, plates, napkins, etc). Towards the end, they surprised us with a buttday cake for me which was from Schubert's bakery. It was a type of cream puff vanilla custard cake that was so light, fluffy, flakey and so divine. A great way to spend such a decadent, pampering day with the girls! Wonderful job ladies! Only gripe: typical city parking = street. Expect to circle around for a half hour or more to find one.

In light of covid-19, it's been a hot second since I've been able to get my nails done and let me tell you it was everything I could have wanted and then some. Zen day spa has always been extremely clean and organized, but they have 100% kicked it up due to COVID-19. Everything is appointment based, which limits the number of individuals in the spa at one time. Before you can sit down or chose your polish colors, you'll have your temperature checked and be asked to wash your hands. Masks are worn at all times, by everyone. Once you've got your polish colors chosen you can sit down and enjoy the beautiful work that these women all do! When getting a pedicure done, there was a plastic divider and as soon as I was off the pedicure chair, it was thoroughly sanitized. MAJOR shout out to Tracy who has me walking out of the spa feeling like a million bucks with her work. I'm a HUGE fan of dip and I have NEVER left the salon disappointed with Tracy's work. It always amazes me how carful she is with my nails, she truly takes her time and the effort shows in how immaculate and beautiful my nails look. I love coming here and am absolutely thrilled that they are open again. I hope people do their part to keep this place going as it is one of the most amazing, if not the most amazing, spas in the city. You can't beat the skill that these women all have!

We pampered our Bride at Zen Day Spa, and everyone had a great time! It's nice that we had a designated area for our party of 8 with a table for our mimosas, food and dessert (which we brought in) during our sessions. They were kind enough to provide the basic utensils and champagne glasses to use. Zen Day Spa even surprised our Bride (and her party) with a delicious cake! Working with Tracy to plan the event was really seamless. She answered all my questions and was just pleasant to work with; she made it really easy. The Google doc tracker was extremely helpful, too. From mani/pedi to massages, everyone really enjoyed their services and the ambiance was just what we were looking for. We can't wait to go back!

Didn't expect to come out with uneven polish. The room is very dimly lit so I couldn't even see this until I stepped outside.

Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Two things that I can't ignore and hope management reads this. 1. There is room for improvement on the locker room getting so crowded. 2. Do NOT trust the sandals. This review is from my visit experience at Onsen several months ago, so I hope their system is…read morebetter now. I hate to leave a bad review, especially since the lady at the check-in desk was extremely kind, polite, and nice. However, various aspects of this place were unacceptable. It was my first visit, which I will never revisit due to the following reasons. First, Onsen charges $50 for an entrance fee, which we are allowed to stay for two hours. However, the overall service I got was not worth the price at all. 1. I was there for the ladies-only day. The locker room area was TOO small and fully crowded to use. I waited for 7-8 minutes until people started leaving and had more space inside to squeeze in, while other people who were standing, naked and covered with towels, tried to get to their lockers. That was the check-in, and when I left, it was the same case for getting ready for check-out. I became one of the towel-covered naked people who were waiting to get to the locker, while other people were staying in the same form. I felt like I was in a low-budget high school female locker room. 2. The lotion in the female locker area was out. I purposely placed the bottle at the edge of the amenity area so that they would refill it, but in the end, the empty bottle was returned to the original spot with the inside still empty. 3. The bathing area is relatively small. And there are only two shower heads we could use, with very low pressure and dripping water, besides the larger water shower head for those who prefer cold water after bathing. The pressure was too low, and we could hardly wash our bodies to rinse off the soap. Nobody was washing their hair, and I couldn't wash mine either due to the amazingly TOO low pressure shower, which was rather dripping water from the showerhead. 4. Including the empty lotion in the powder room, their amenity inside had no label, only a self-posted "shampoo" label. It would have been nicer if we could have known what we were getting for our body, such as organic, vegan, not animal-tested, or a decent brand, etc. 5. During my two-hour stay, the cleaning person came inside the female bath area a few times to remove the used towels, but didn't care about cleaning other things inside. In such a small bathing space, there were about 20 used cups left all over, which was quite disturbing. 6. I know this is not their fault, but two young ladies inside KEPT talking for two hours quite loudly. At first, I thought I was being too sensitive, but when I moved to the sauna area, people inside whispered and complained about the chat noise they were making. I couldn't relax at all because of their private and personal stories about their work, guys they met, etc. In the end, I couldn't stop wondering if those types of young ladies are regular customers at Onsen. 7. This is the most disgusting part, which, as mentioned, I will never go back to this place. When I was getting ready to leave at the exit spot, I saw a cleaning person using the same wet cloth she had wiped the floor with, rubbing the used sandals they were providing to their guests. According to my common sense, those shared sandals/slippers are sanitized after each use, or if not, they are at least rinsed with hot water and soap, and possibly treated with a sanitizing spray. I've been to other spas in the city, like Pxxxx Spa, which constantly cleans the shared items, such as slippers, combs, and hair dryers. I didn't see any of those "caring" and "safe" considerations to maintain cleanliness for shared items for the guests at Onsen. Lastly, I felt like naming this place 'Onsen' is almost a big joke and an insult to real onsens in Japan, where we could relax in such a clean and pampering atmosphere in tranquility.

Most recently I had a 60 massage with Eva who is one of the best therapists I've had here. I had an…read moreacupressure massage and she was very good, checked with me often about the pressure and was able to release tension in my neck that has been there for years. I have been going to this spa for a few years and have had consistently excellent experiences. I have tried every wet treatment , scrub and combo along with a variety of dry room massage services. The first time I had a scrub I was a little shocked at how effective it was. While the exfoliating technique is between medium and intense, the results are undeniable. The basic scrub is 30 minutes but I highly recommend going for the body scrub acupressure 90 minutes service. Having tried all the spas in the area I can say with confidence that the water temperatures at Imperial are the most reliable. The hot tub is perfectly scorching and the cold dip is perfectly icy, almost unbearable, as it should be. They offer hot and cold water, sometimes have tea. They have a really nice selection of hair dryers to use on the way out, Dyson style. I prefer to go during the week when it's slow but I have also found that during the busiest of times here, the staff does a great job of enforcing the rules of silence. Overall I have enjoyed every single experience here. I can't post pictures because it's not allowed to take photos inside, but the facility is clean, inviting and enjoyable.

First time checking this place out. Not bad for a $100, 45-minute "Swedish massage," though the…read moretechnique was a bit unexpected. Instead of the usual kneading, there was a lot of poking, finger-tracing, and some elbow work. I ended up opting out of the back-walking part. The facilities are a bit tight--the parking lot only has five spots, and the steam and sauna rooms only fit about 4-5 people at a time. The men's and women's areas are separate, which is nice, but the shoe lockers don't actually lock (though you do get a bracelet for your main locker). A few quirks: the water cups are so tiny they are like shot glasses, and they leave the massage room doors open during the session. I think I'll try Kabuki Spa next time to compare.

I booked a couples massage for the 3rd week of October, in celebration of my partner's birthday…read more M Spa staff was great in informing me that it would have to be 2 separate rooms, but at the same time. They also informed me that due to the size of the facility and for the best experience of all patrons, members can arrive no more than 30 minutes before to use the facilities. They also informed me that parking could be difficult, due to it being the Castro, so plan ahead. As somebody who thinks himself as a master planner, I felt like I had the perfect birthday planned. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that this same spa date at M Spa aligned with the Pumpkin event in Half Moon Bay. After our 2 hour brunch appointment at Navio, we were stuck in traffic blitz where Google Maps, Apple Maps, and the Tesla navigation kept pushing the ETA to the right. Two hours before the appointment, I called M Spa and asked if there were any later appointments for that Saturday. Unfortunately, they were already fully booked (lesson - book far in advance to secure your spot). I called again an hour before the appointment and informed them that we cannot make it. I asked if I can reschedule and they indicated that since it was my first time, they would gladly honor the rescheduling without charging me any fees (which was extremely gracious). That amount of customer service earned them the 5 stars. When we finally went, the week after, I made sure we were in the Castro area an hour before. We wondered around until it was the 30 minutes before the appointment to use their facilities. They had a very clean and tidy locker room area for members to put their personal belongings and to change into their robes. There was also a 2 stall shower and a steam room where 3 people can fit. The lounge area was also calming and came equipped with tea and snacks. The staff went above and beyond, and after our amazing 90 minute massages, which left us floating and wanting to come back, they made settling the bill simple and even gave us 15% off our next service. I love you M Spa. You truly set the bar.
