Queen Bee has become my go to spot in the Castro. Giao Vo is the best, and she's super attentive with every service. It's a pretty quiet establishment so what I like about it is that I can usually walk in and get what I need done and quickly. Just left my first visit to Queen Bee Nail Salon. I called in to ask if there was time for a mani walk in and was told to come on in! Showed up and was greeted by one of the hairdressers. I stopped by for a pedicure around 2:30pm today. There were two ladies on duty who were giving a customer a mani / pedi. I was given a seat and allowed to soak my feet for about ten minutes. I don't paint my nails, but I was offered a choice of many colors if I was interested. I was given a good pedicure for $23. The atmosphere was quiet and pleasant until a self absorbed, middle aged twit sat next to me for a manicure and blared his headset unnecessarily. I'd still return for another pedicure. read more

Decided to be spontaneous and realized it was a mistake. Paid $40 for the delux pedicure and did not get the services advertised (no mask and not additional 10 min massage, just 10 minutes total). When I was trying to address it with the manager her English became really poor and she didn't understand me (was fine till that point). One day after the pedicure it felt like I never got one. I arrived with 2 friends for a walk-in - they wanted mani/pedis, I wanted a gel mani. After waiting on the couch for 30 minutes while the attendants worked on my friends, I finally got seated for the gel mani. Throughout the further 1.5 hours it took to finish the job, four different women worked on my nails, undoing each other's work every time they sat down. Ultimately, the gel is...okay...at best. It's caked on in a ridiculously thick layer and will probably peel pretty soon. Everything in the salon was dirty and dingy and felt unbearably chaotic. One friend ended up having to leave after she waited for 45 minutes for someone to finish the pedicure someone had started, then the staff wandered away and forgot about her. Unfortunately, the worst gel manicure I've ever received. The technician filed my nails so short that they were sore for 3 days. I asked for square but that didn't happen. I blame myself though, as I came in at 6:30, 30 min before closing. My cuticles are a mess only 4 days after and one nail is completely ruined. While walking back to the car from dinner this nail salon caught mu girlfriend and I attention to just go ahead and get a ourselves a pedicure. We notice the salon was closing but still went in to ask if they can kindly accommodate us. My girlfriend had her eyebrow wax and a pedicure with me. The lady that worked on my aching feet was extremely nice until she accidentally cut my side cuticles and start to bleed she didnt say anything but I was just hurting inside everytime she cleaned my toes with alcohol. Besides that I was perfectly fine at how my toes turned out from afar until I went home to examine them. She basically didn't file any of my toes! They were still sharp that I end up filing my toes myself at home!!! Besides that the ladies were speaking in Vietnamese about our toes how it was weird shaped and difficult for them to make it look clean. I would appreciate it better if they kept these comments to themselves after the clients left. Because you never know if your clients are Vietnamese or not! I felt harassed in a way how they criticizes me. I never even been to a salon where complimentary slippers were provided or even asked for purchase or not but on their own free will to oil our toes and wrap them on food savers wraps and stuff our feet back into our shoes. It's a one-time trying experience, I'm happy for other yelpers that reviewed this place liked it but definitely my girlfriend and I wouldn't return again. One star for being nice, the second star was accidentally under charging my French pedicure and accommodating us after store hours. Not really sure what the deal is with love-it-or-hate-it reviews, but they were ahhhmazing daaahling. In fact, I felt they were better and cleaner than my favorite spot in Union City. So here's the rundown: the boyfriend and I were doing a mani-pedi date and from beginning to end, we were happy campers. The pedicure bins had disposable plastic covers and so did the cupholders of the massage chairs -- not sure of how necessary cupholder covers are, but it's nice to know they're extra careful? *Shoulder shrugs.* My nail polish is going on week two and still looks really good! I mean, three coats of OPI polish and two top coats is bound to keep them fangers fresher for longer... fasho. It doesn't hurt that they were stroking our egos with, "You two are such a good looking couple" and "We're surprised you speak such good Vietnamese for someone that was born here!" Keep em comin', aunties. I'm not one to turn down a good compliment or two or eight. The best part of all? $32. For your hands AND feet. Uhm, yes please. We'll be back every two weeks! I have never written a bad review, but my blood is still boiling after my horrendous manicure last night so I felt it was time to do so. I had made an appointment for a shellac manicure as I have my company's holiday party this weekend and wanted to feel nice and polished for it. I also just moved into a new neighborhood and was hoping to find a new regular place. I was SO looking forward to my appointment, it was a very stressful week at work and I just wanted a bit of pampering. I was greeted by a very nice lady (I believe she may be the owner), and was asked to pick out my polish. They didn't have the shellac colors on samples, so I had to at the tiny little window of color in each bottle, which is kind of a pain, but not enough of a hassle to turn me away. I should mention that I was with a friend who was getting a mani/pedi (from the suspected owner), and she had a completely different experience than myself. The manicurist sits across from me and right away I did not feel good about it, she was extremely rough, just started to file down my nails, didn't ask me which shape I would like (I always get round and keep them on the long side), but by the time I realized what she was doing I had 2 super short square nails. Not happy. I also noticed that she was pulling tools out of her drawer, and I never saw them come out of a sanitized bag, HUGE red flag for me. When she was pushing back my cuticles there was a point when she wasn't even looking at what she was doing and was stabbing my fingers. I winced many times and all she did was grab my hand and pull it back. There were multiple times during this manicure that I thought to myself "just get up and leave, this is horrible!", but I have never been able to be "that girl", and having my friend there with her feet in a tub of water added to my feelings to stick it out. The pain continued as she used her super sharp nails to clean up polish on my skin. She was clearly just in a rush to get out as I was her last appointment of the day. She didn't let me keep my nails under the light long enough, which resulted in multiple mess-ups, and me having to point out to her that they were not dry and needed to be fixed. I had also asked her at the beginning to try and get as close to my cuticles as possible as my nails grow super fast. She seemed to do the complete opposite and leave a HUGE gap, which I then had to point out multiple times (still left with at least 3 nails looking half painted). I am not one to complain, but I have had my fair share of manicures in my day to know what is acceptable, and what is not. My nails are uneven, the color is uneven (think some nails got 3 coats and some only 2), but mostly I am upset for what I was wanting to be a relaxing experience ended with me crying at home. The suspected owner could tell that I was not happy and told me that if I have any chipping in the next week to come back and she would redo them for free. I appreciate her gesture, but I am in fear of returning and getting the same manicurist. read more

My friend and I spontaneously decided to get a pedicure and eyebrow wax as we were walking to our car. Staff is friendly. I had two ladies work on me - eyebrows and pedicure. Eyebrow Wax - It was decent but wasn't the most painless experience. Results were ok but wasn't mind blowing like the lady that usually go to on Clement Street (who can create eyebrow miracles). $14 Pedicure - Unfortunately, it was just ok. The older lady I had was not experienced and kept asking my friend's pedicurist for advice and help. I didn't think she was too thorough. The OPI color was pretty though. I think my friend had a better lady and she was happy with her results. $20 read more

So I stopped in here on my way home - middle of the day in the middle of the week. I was surprised not to find the mid-day cram-it-into-my-lunch-hour crowd and they were able to accomodate me right away. That was nice. I asked for a gel manicure, and their selection is OK. I just moved here from NY, and I'm not sure why all of the nail salons seem to use Gelish instead of OPI Axxium or CND's Shellac but this is beside the point. This was beyond a doubt, the most PAINFUL manicure I have ever had in my life- and that is saying a lot because my nails are always painted, and I've been to A LOT of salons. The woman who filed my nails down to practically nothing, used so much alcohol and filed and buffed so much that my fingers felt raw afterwards. And the cuticle that she ripped is still pulsating. I won't really complain too much about the cuticles because actually most places don't really know how to cut cuticles and they just pretend to nip at the sides which doesn't do anything. However, there is no need to go so overboard with the alcohol that my fingers were stinging. I could MAYBE deal with the pain and semi-friendly service if my nails looked good - but they're practically nubs now and they aren't even all filed even. Needless to say, I WILL NOT be returning here. read more

Queen Bee first opened its doors about six months ago, and I've since gotten mani pedis there three times. It's a high quality mani pedi that's worth the $32 price tag. The women there are super nice and they don't rush through their work. Mary in particular gives an excellent manicure that usually lasts for 3-4 weeks. Her attention to quality shows in the results. They have massage chairs and foot soaks. I love it when they spend a little extra time giving leg and hand massages. read more

I have been a licensed Cosmetologist for 27 years and have been teaching Cosmetology for a year now. Queen Bee Nail is one of the best salons I have ever been to...very clean and up to all of State Board standards. NOW, as for the Gel manicure, I have had Gel manicures from different salons and teach the procedure as well. The soak off process does require having acetone coming into contact with your cuticle however, the operators at Queen Bee Nail go to great lengths to protect the cuticle as much as possible. Gel nails offer the ability to have a flexible nail that can bend, this is why Gel nails can last as long as they do with no chipping...they are worth it. Queen Bee Nail has given me three Gel manicures now and all three of them have been consistant and perfect. I highly recommend this salon to anyone. read more

Came in on a Sunday, no appointment, but 5 ladies working with 3 customers finishing up so it was no problem. Friendly, but nothing special. I'm sitting in the chair as I type while my pedicure is being done because I'm bleeding at 4 cuticles. Obviously like barely, but I have never been cut before. My manicure girl didn't soak my hands in warm water and she just started before I knew it. Overall both the mani and pedi were rushed (for no reason) and sloppy. Bad bad bad, except she kept smiling and saying sorry as she cut up my hands so 2 stars for literally killing me with kindness. I went to this salon for the first time a few weeks ago on a Friday as a walk-in. Usually, it's very busy but I was lucky I missed the crowd and was able to get in right away. It's a convenient spot and pretty spacious inside. So you can definitely do a group mani-pedi if you like. The price is reasonable for the area. I LOVED the lady who did my regular-mani. She only works there on Fridays and I don't remember her name. But the way she cleaned my cuticles and the nails is by far the BEST I have ever seen. Well hello new nail spot for when I'm in San Fran. I definitely recommend Queen Bee to anyone looking for a spot for mani/pedis! We were in town for the long weekend. Unfortunately the place down the way couldn't accommodate four of us until later so we headed to lunch and made some calls. Ok Gary made some calls... I enjoyed my margarita while Gary made the calls. Anyway, Queen Bee said they could fit all four of us in at 2pm. It was just a little past noon and we had just gotten to lunch at Harvey's so that was a good for us. After lunch we began our leisurely stroll towards Queen Bee. We ended up arriving at 1:30, but they welcomed us in and we were sitting in our vibrating massage chairs in no time! Three of us were getting mani/pedis, but my man was just doing a mani. The girls still set my man up in a spa pedi chair so he could sit with us. This really stuck out to me because they recognized we were a group and wanted to all hangout and chat. They offered us hot tea and really took their time so we could enjoy ourselves. They were friendly and attentive which made for a wonderful experience. One of the worst nail experiences EVER. And it seemed in my 2 hours there others agreed as THREE separate people came in complaining that their nails chipped and needed them redone, or that one is still uneven and needed to be refiled, etc etc etc. But let me tell you about my first and last experience. I went in with my friend, made an appointment and when we arrived there was NO ONE in there. Red flag to begin with as it was Sunday morning. We both wanted pedicures and I also want to get a color change on my acrylic nails (I had some nail art gems on them from the holidays that started falling off so I just wanted them removed and a new simple coat of gel polish.) So they started both of our pedicures, and I kid you not within 10 minutes my friend was done. No massage, no scrub, nothing - so he ended up waiting for the last 1.5 hours while I had my nail drama. What a trooper. So, my nails began during my lackluster pedicure and an older woman started filing my acrylic nails as one would think but she kept figiting with the light and squinting like she could no clearly see which made me super nervous considering she had a powertool nailfile in her hand. Then she nicked my finger for the first time and I said "OUCH!" she ignored me. Then it happened TWO MORE times before I requested she not do my nails, the three women started chattering and a new girl came over and started hand filing my nails. I was like what is going on? I don't want to sit here and have my nails handfiled down, I just want someone that can color in the lines and use the machine the proper way. But she said "oh no you're too sensitive" which was not the case - I purely got cut by the woman who did not know how to file correctly. The original woman was flat out saying she didn't file my skin when she did. WOW. That wasn't even the end, the main lady went on to finish my nails took an hour. And then had the audacity to ask me for a tip. I had a HORRIBLE experience so that's a hard no. Do not go here you will regret it. read more

I've had my share of bad luck at the salon (everything from the bad dye job that made me miss the only giants game I ever might've attended, to the bad updo that made me late to prom in high school) - but ladies and gentlemen, this here took the cake. 'Twas a sunny afternoon in the Castro when I decided I needed some simple layers to even out my unsightly 'do that I've been trying to grow out for some years (it was several inches past my shoulder, in length; for context). I walk past Queen Bee on the daily, seeing as I only live a block away, and I considered it as good a salon as any other cheap one (for such a simple cut). So in I walked. The place was entirely devoid of both customers and warning of my impending doom, so I took a seat and explained in plain english what I wanted. After many nods of understanding from the stylist, she wetted my hair, pinned it up, and without hesitation, chopped a big chunk of hair off to about two inches in length right at the nape of my neck. My gasp of horror had come too late. Apparently my clear explanation, "I would like simple soft layers without losing any of my hair's length" had translated to "I would like a short bob cut please". My generally merciful attitude got the better of me still, and after another round of explanation, I gave the woman a second chance....... To hack three inches off of a section of my hair in the front, near my face. I called it quits there. I left with her following me out the door saying, "Let me even it out!" read more

Went to queen bee for a mani pedi on Saturday. I arrived around 10:15 and even though they open at 10, they were not at all ready for customers. I sat around waiting for about 15 minutes with no explanation. The woman did apologize, so only half a point deducted for that. On a related note, there were only 2 employees working until about 11, so if there are more than 2 of you, an appointment or later arrival is highly advised. My mani pedi was fine. They definitely took their time which was really nice, but probably not somewhere to go in a hurry. The selection of colors is good, although they didn't have the color I usually get (ahh the sadness of a new nail salon) and the decor is very nice. $32 is about what I'm using to paying so that seemed reasonable to me. It's clear they take cleanliness very seriously here. The foot baths are lined with plastic before each customer, tools are unwrapped from a package, and I saw several sanitizing machines around. The bigger issues I had were: - During the massage the woman was pressing so hard it hurt. I asked her to be more gentle, but later that day I had bruises! - My manicurist was trying to move my hand in a certain way and in the process bumped it against the spa chair armrest ruining the polish on 3 fingernails, then glared at me like it was my fault. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of nail salons in the area so I'll probably try a different one next time. read more

I don't fall in love quickly, but after getting a mani, pedi and eyebrow wax here this past Monday...I sit here waiting for a ring on my finger. My best friend and I decided we needed a pamper day after a weekend full of Folsom and Tough Mudder activities and what better way then getting our feet and hands done. The ladies working on our mani and pedi were so nice and sweet. They grabbed us waters, showed us how to work the massage chairs and got to work. We upgraded our services to add a mint and cucumber scrub to our pedi's and I'm glad we did. We smelled like a mojito! I also decided to get an eyebrow wax to clean it up a bit. I usually go to a wax salon where they charged me $30.00 because I'm scared that a cheaper place will screw them up. I'm happy to say that I still look masculine after all the plucking and waxing. Plus at $14.00, I'm happy to get them done more often! I definitely recommend this place. It's not super busy and the ladies here do phenomenal work. Ask for Tee if you want to get a wax! read more

With a little concern based on the negative review re the gel nail removal from another poster, I gave this neighborhood place a try. I was so pleasantly surprised and will return. First, it is very clean, has a nice set up that is big with comfy pedicure chairs and a nice nail bar type set up for drying if you are getting your nails done. It is a very pleasant environment. Also,the staff was very polite and attentive, without being overbearing. (I actually showed up close to closing time and they didn't even blink when I asked for services that would take at least 45 minutes.) As for services, I got a pedicure and had my gel manicure (that I got somewhere else) removed. In an effort to give my nails a break, I just asked for a manicure with no color. Re the gel manicure removal (which was the complaint of a prior poster), they removed the gel carefully and correctly, with the cotton and foil. My nails are not damaged and they didn't let the mover soak forever on my nails. I have tried three places for removal of the gel (Gelish) manicure and this was the best. Re the manicure, I think a salon can sometimes be judged best when you don't get color bc color can hide a sloppy manicure. My nails looked clean, even, and neat when I left. I was very pleased. Finally, the pedicure was great. Good leg massage too! I look forward to returning here and not driving across town to another salon to do gel manicures (and mani/pedis generally) in the future. read more

I was on a hunt to find another nail salon on Market that a friend took me too not to long ago and when I couldn't find the same place and googled it only to find I had gone in the wrong direction I decided to come to Queen Bee because it was right there where I was at the moment, it was clean and empty and I have a good friend named Queen Bee. 3/24/13 With so many nail salons to choose from, I decided to try Queen Bee. The place was practically empty on Sunday at 4:30. Promptly seated at a massage chair while waiting for my manicure. My pampering included: *Proper clipping: this is easy on the manicurist's part because I always keep my nails short. She only had to file them into a round shape. *Cuticle gently pushed back with oil and cream. *No soaking in fingerbowl. *Pumice treatment to soften rough edges around your fingernails. *Buff for a nice shine. *Hot towel service. *Bottled water. Manicurist also applied hand cream and massaged my hand. It's a very relaxing (first experience). Everything was clean and sanitized, and the hand tools sterile. $12 well spent! read more

Nice massaging chairs (6 total), four manicure stations, waxing and other treatment rooms in the back. Cute decor, nice clean bathroom. Minus one star for weak and very fast massage and pedicure. The nails turned out fine, but probably one of the fastest mani/pedi I have ever received. But all in all, nice place would totally recommend and go again if I'm in the area. read more

There was good, but not jarring music playing, and the staff looked nice and professional.
