Stay far away from this person, he is a schemer and a conniver and a nickel and dimer. We wanted a simple bathroom remodel. It has taken 3x as long as he said (because he took another job before finishing ours). He convinced us to get a slab counter top instead of a vanity because he said it would look better. He somehow broke the second slab, went back to the place he bought it and got the cheapest thing he could buy and installed it - it is not even the same color........ Also he used on-hand paints because he was to cheap to actually go get the colors we wanted for the bathroom that were not what we wanted and then blamed the lights on the off coloring lol!!!. He told us to go get two slabs that we wanted and we did at a cost of 1K. Today he had the nerve and the audacity to email us asking to send him a check for the finished job - that he did not finish and left us holding this situation. Come back and fix the slab problem you created and paint the walls the color we wanted. Again STAY AWAY! read more

Dimitry has almost literally remodeled our entire house as well as some yard construction. About 5 years I have gone back to him over and over,because I trust him completely. The last was our living room and foyer. He did all the molding, painting, retiled the fireplace, installed doors and electrical ceiling lights. One of our biggest fears as first time home buyers were the initial set of items we needed to fix. Where to start? How much would it cost? And could we find a contractor we could trust? We purchased an older home and hired Dima to help with some upgrades. This included: 1. Repaint all interiors, including trim, baseboards and closets 2. Full guest bathroom remodel (tile, tub, vanity, etc) 3. Install fans and toilets in all bathrooms 4. Upgrade outside electrical box to 200 amps and install grounding 5. Clean up and replace shelving in kitchen and hallway closets 6. Rebuild platform for water heater 7. Short Story: I could not be any more happier with the experience and results that Dimitry and his team delivered. Highly recommended! Long Story: Before going with Dimitry, we met with a few other contractors and Dimitry really stood out from the pack. He has a very welcoming attitude and really focused on what I wanted done by walking through each area of the bathroom. He then emailed me a quote a few days later with a breakdown of the work. Other contractors would give me a general quote after just looking at the bathroom without even asking what I wanted done, others would spend too much time explaining their work history and why we should go with them. This is why I ultimately went with Dimitry. He listened, reviewed what I wanted done, and didn't waste my time outside what I wanted. As far as the remodeling, Dimitry and his team were great. On day one, I met with Dimitry and his team (Constantine and Valerie) and walked through each section of the bathroom and they were off to races. His guys didn't talk much but they worked around the clock. When it got to the design phase, they went through each design detail before starting and shared their opinion and reasoning behind it which I really appreciated. The final product...my wife and I were blown away and could not be any happier, on top of that they completed almost a week earlier than scheduled. We had Dimitry Doronkin of Zen Construction simultaneously work on 2 major projects for us. The first was an unexpected kitchen renovation due to a pinhole leak in a hot water pipe which was spraying under the subfloor for a few weeks. Dimitry made sure that he knew exactly what the scope of the job would entail before he gave us an estimate. That meant stopping by a second time after the remediation company removed drywall with asbestos and tile that had lead. No unexpected charges as a result. The second was an unplanned master bathroom remodel due to dry rot underneath the floor and wall shower tile. Both projects included a complete gutting to the studs and moving of electrical. The estimates Dimitry gave for both jobs were extremely competitive. He is very knowledgeable and cares equally about the big and small things. The work he and his guys do is excellent. One thing that I especially liked and appreciated was Dimitry's availability and his immediate return of my texts and/or phone calls. His workers were on the job every day! Well if you are looking for one that shows up on time, keeps you informed, performs work with great attention to detail and has very considerate workers you should take a close look at Zen Construction. I contracted with Zen to perform a window and door replacement project. I greatly appreciated that since is was a short project, Dimitry chose to work my project in between his larger projects which allowed my project to be completed much sooner. I also appreciated Dimitry's eye for details and his daily communications on site with his crew and myself. His crews arrived as planned each day, worked meticulously throughout each full days work and stayed late on more than one occasion so as to not leave the work site dirty or cluttered. The whole project came off just as planned, something you always hope for when you contract a project, but seems to rarely occur. Double Quality recently completed a partial remodel of our 70 year old home. Dimitry and his group are hard working and intelligent remodelers in that they can find a solution to a difficult problem. We choose hard to cut tiles and mosaics that were difficult to work with and they were able to overcome those difficulties with little time lost and we are very pleased with the outcome. Dimitry himself discusses problems and makes suggestions and can complete an owners direction or suggest in a logical way a more favorable solution. If Dimitry came upon a problem that he did not clearly understand he clearly stated the problem to me and found a solution from outside contacts or was able to improvise a favorable solution. I was impressed with their knowledge of subcontractors - electrician and glass specialists who also performed with precision and coordinated well with Double Quality. They were respectful of our privacy and installed protective covers on our hard wood floors and kitchen areas. A minor irritant was that they could have been more careful of the exterior tile cutting area where cutting dust accumulated on the plants and around the cutting area. I contacted a number of contractors for a bid on a shower rehab and was pleasantly surprised by Dimitry because 1) He showed up, and 2), He was quite reasonable compared to some of the sharks that were trying to take advantage of a tight market. I checked everyone and everyplace I could think of to make sure he was legit and he was. He is pleasant and a great communicator between you and his crew who speaks little English. As often happens, the project took longer than expected due in part to some change orders on our part. Both he and his crew put in some very long days on occasion to make up for it so I can't hold it against him...stuff happens. I do some handy work myself, so I expect pretty close to perfection in the work I do and have done. Dimitry was flexible and followed through to make sure all work was done to my satisfaction. The project involved demo, plumbing, electrical, a new window, a lot of tiling, two showerheads, a stone floor, and multiple inspections.
