I learned about Zelene from a Groupon deal back in December and was curious because I had been seeing posts about Korean head spas on Instagram.
I made an appointment for the 40 min refresh head spa through their app and mentioned the Groupon when I arrived.
This location is one of the ground level stores under an apartment building, and there was ample retail parking in the garage on the ground level. On arrival, they examined my scalp really quickly with the close-up camera and showed me areas that were oily. I thought they would have examined different areas of my scalp, but it was just one quick image. Although I had selected some treatments I thought I would need, they recommended other ones instead based on the exam, which was helpful anyway. I was given a question slip which included my preferred massage pressure (I picked 2/5), if the masseuse could use fingernails on my scalp (I picked "no"), and if I wanted to dry my own hair (I picked "yes").
I was given a strapless robe and slippers to change into, my clothes were placed in a locker, and I wore the key around my wrist.
The head spa itself was in a dark quiet room with calming music. There was a big cushion under my legs for comfort. It was a very relaxing 40 minutes--the masseuse methodically massaged my scalp in different areas, and the water pressure was also gently massaging. When we were done, the masseuse dried my hair with a towel. I had learned to pat dry to avoid damaging cuticles, but he touseled it.
Afterwards, there was a room with hair driers and various products. My hair was so silky! As I was drying my hair, they served some complementary tea and biscuits. I was curious how my scalp looked afterwards, so I asked to see. Otherwise, it seemed like it wasn't part of the workflow.
Three stars because it felt like it delivered the relaxation, but I would've appreciated a more data driven evaluation and diagnosis. read more
