Brilliant Old style traditional Family Italian restaurant. Really worth the trip up there if you…read moreare not local. I would say the best Italian restaurant I've eaten in except for one I went to in Italy years ago. Simple but elegant menu with very reasonable prices. But watch out for the specials. They sound (and look) delicious, but are always more expensive. Stick to the main menu and you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the bill. I only go there on special occasions as I want to keep it, er, well special. :) General description of menu. They don't do Pizzas (thank god), but they do all the standard Italian grub to perfection. But, usually with a little extra flourish. So, pastas, meat, etc. Terrific Entrees. Superb salads (their dressing is to die for). Recommended If you like Veal, look no further. And brilliant value: Around £8 for the Milanese (in breadcrumbs). Great fries too (home made). All the pastas are superb. Particularly the seafood. Terrific veggies. And they do them properly. So for instance spinach done the way it should be. Every kind of potato dish you could ask for. Dessert is a trolly, but very good. But be careful how much you order for starter and main if you want dessert, as they do not skimp on the portions. Order small at first and if you need more, order more. Or you won't be able to get in your car. LOL! Top recommendation: The king prawn Entree in butter. Get this and delight in the huge juicy prawns and gobble up the sauce (to die for) with the bread. Wines: Nothing special but adequate and reasonable. But they do have a large range of grappas and anything else you like to drink. And NOT over priced. This restaurant was run by the owner and his son, Daniel, for decades until the owner died a few years ago. So now run by the son. The chef is his wife. So it's a real family restaurant. And yes, the waiting staff are very cheeky, attentive and hug you or shake your hand as you arrive and leave. You mostly have to book as it's very popular with the locals and regulars. And people do travel for miles to visit. Treat yourself, make a special trip to a special restaurant.

It doesn't open on Mondays but all other times, especially Thursdays-Sundays it does good trade. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. You'll want to come here again and again.

We ended up here after a few hours at the pub on a Wednesday night. Every time I've passed by on a…read moreweekend, it looks crowded, plus I'm always on the hunt for delicious pizza in London. (So far, been underwhelmed with the takeaway/delivery options. Oh I miss you Pizza My Heart!) We walk in, there's a few people there even though it's 9:00 on a Wednesday night. Good sign. We order. PIzzas for everyone and a few starters. I had some cheesy bread (which was kind of like a pizza starter, oops), and it was quite tasty. I tried the other half's mussel juice, and it was incredibly tasty. The egg dishes the others got looked nice as well. Pizzas though, kind of underwhelmed. Mine was incredibly salty (which I should expect from anchovies, right?), but it just lacked a bit in other flavor profiles. The other half was a bit underwhelmed with his pizza as well. Will it stop me from going back? Probably not. Although it wasn't overly impressive enough that I'd go out of my way to go back here, even if it is relatively close to where I live. Funny story though, both pizza number 1 and pizza number 2 on the menu are called La Caverna!

We told the waiter he snapped "impossible, chef is bald" No sorry no nothing. Same waiter visibly crossed himself everytime he came to the table. The owner came with the bill at the end, plonked it down and then said to a member of our party "its been 4 years since you last came , we haven't missed you a bit. You always complain". We were gobsmacked as it was untrue and said is this how you treat your customers?. Owner told us very clearly he didnt care. Restaurant is very dated, quite shabby and dirty with very limited food and drinks menu. 2 other independent Pizza places just a few doors away will get out custom
