For the last year or so I have been on the quest for the perfect pizza. I have found it. A Casa Mia is the place to go.
I read an article about the top 25 pizza places in the UK in the Sunday Times a few months ago and A Casa Mia was mentioned. My parents live close by so I figured I'd arrange a trip. If you are in East Kent, definitely make the trip.
The downstairs (which I guess is the takeaway area) is quite inauspicious, but upstairs there is a charming rustic Italian vibe. It was quiet as it was Sunday and I guess most people are (incorrectly) going for roasts. Let's all have Italian style dinners from now on.
My dad had the starter special which was mozzarella and a hot tomato sauce.Beautiful, fresh and sumptuous. He had the spaghetti alle vongole as a main, which he said was very tasty though could have been larger (greed is good) and that the clams were quite small, though it's not yet clam season so this is to be expected. My mum and I shared the linguine allo scoglio, the pizza 'a casa mia' and the capricciosa. The capricciosa was my favourite by a hair (then again it's my favourite pizza in general) and I don't quite know what to say - I kind of blacked out in a frenzy of gluttonous euphoria. Food was shovelled greedily, napkins and the necessary lemon water went flying. It was divine.
Other pizzas just don't compare. It is the best pizza that I have had on our fair isle, and I have eaten a lot of pizza. Chewy, sloppy, generous, delightful.
For dessert my dad had the panna cotta and my mum and I shared the special of the day, which was something between a banoffee pie and a cheesecake, plus some coffee (latte and americano) as an accompaniment.
From start to finish the food was exceptional. Truly, truly exceptional. Plus the staff were friendly and knowledgeable (they gave us a few recommendations, all of which were correct) and, even for a quiet Sunday, it had a lovely ambiance.
More than enough of a reason to come to Herne Bay.
If you love, like, or even have vaguely heard of pizza, make a date to visit A Casa Mia. read more
