It was not open. No buffet. No Breakfast. We ended up going next door to Zanders which was delicious as usual.

It all started with missing white rice…read more I had been working all day and hadn't consumed Chinese food in about a year. I love Chinese food but I have been paying off debt like Al Capone wanted his loan-shark money back, which led to me going from 27.3k to currently 1.8k on my Discover within a year. This background is to let you know why I haven't been eating a lot of Chinese food. It has nothing to do with sodium. But this is about wonton soup, sesame chicken, lo mein, white rice, and a drunk guy (not me). All of the food items listed above were solid. And they are always solid across the board. I wouldn't put this restaurant as #1 for any of those individual items in Lake Norman but I do put them #1 for all food as a whole. In other words, Jin Jin has the best wonton soup but you only get four wontons and they aren't as good at other stuff, and it just doesn't seem as clean--Huang's Chef is impeccably clean. Huang's China Bistro in Cornelius has the best sesame chicken but their lo mein and wonton soup aren't quite as good (still very good though). Lotus on River Hwy (Rt 150) has the best lo mein but not quite as good on the other stuff (but still very good). Huang's Chef (Mooresville) is a solid 9.0 across the board so it's where I order most. But the time prior to this one, I drove all the way to Huntersville and they forgot my white rice. This isn't a major issue but it kind of does ruin the experience after spending $30 for one person on dinner. Fortunately, they gave me a free pint of wonton soup the next time I went in. I was so excited to eat their food again that I ordered when driving by and had to wait. While outside and thinking I was alone on the strip-mall sidewalk, I practiced pronouncing "Huang's Chef." In order to do it, you need to inhale 5% on the "Huah" sound and exhale 95% on the "Wang" sound. I was getting good at it and repeating, "Huah-Wang's Chef ... Huah-Wang's Chef" while pacing, but a dude from from Marty's Bar popped out to smoke a cigarette and looked at me funny. "Just practicing," I said while nodding to indicate all was normal. "For what?" he laughed. I could tell he was one of those friendly drunk guys. "Huah-Wang's Chef." He walked over to cut the distance between us in half and laughed while taking a drag of his cigarette. Tall and skinny guy mid-60s with scruff and loose clothes that fit his personality. "Huah-Wong's Chef," he said. "No," I corrected. "It's Wang." "No it ain't," he cackled. "It's Wong." "That would be the Cantonese version. That's not correct." "I don't eat cantaloupes." He just started cracked up at his own joke, which wasn't funny, but then funny because of how much he enjoyed it. Then he continued, "What if we just put it together and start our own Chinese restaurant called Wang-Wong!" Bar guys always talk about things like this but know they will never follow through, and I didn't want to start a Wang-Wong Chinese restaurant with a scruffy-looking drunk guy. I had the perfect out anyway because Huang's Chef told me 15 minutes and it was about that time. "Good to meet you, but I have to go get my food now at Huah-WANG'S Chef." "Wong!" he cackled again as I walked away. Anyway, I definitely recommend Huang's Chef. It's a good price with solid portions and quality taste across the board. The restaurant itself is one of the cleanest Chinese restaurants I have ever seen, which is always a good sign. Definitely recommended.

It's the only one I've been to where the…read moredrinks are self-serve after you pay, which is no big deal, but the drink station was filthy at the time. Every Golden Corral I've been to had the same process. Get drinks and a tray, pay, and find a table. This one was a bit awkward, but I think it's just the building design. They had terrible chairs. I've honestly never paid much attention to chairs at a buffet, but these were definitely hard and expired. I always go for steak, fish, shrimp and salad. They had a girl dealing with the steaks who may not have ever cooked steaks before. She had a small buffet bucket full of overcooked small steak pieces, and more being cooked on the grill. I tried several palm-sized steak parts while I was there, as did my wife and my mom, and they were all awful. One side overcooked, and two inches away, almost raw. I'm not sure how they managed to do that. Every piece had at least one edible bite in it after the cartilage and burned/raw part was removed. They're really wasting their steak by cooking it this way. Anyway, the grill chef was doing her best but it wasn't working out. She was very kind. The place was quite busy, but most of the food on the buffet was cold or old. The heel of a ham remained by the grill the whole time we were there, and it should have been replaced with a ham from the current week. Fried fish (probably tilapia) was alright, but not especially hot. Fried shrimp were fine. Fried okra was soggy, broccoli was way overcooked, and their mushrooms had probably been there way too long. The salad section was pretty bad. I just ate some lettuce with dressing and gave up on a salad. My mom tried several things and she was not too happy. The same for my wife and my dad. My wife and I usually visit another Golden Corral once every 2-3 months, and it is always guaranteed to be fairly decent, with fresh food constantly coming out, and a well-maintained salad bar. Their steak is almost always great (as Golden Corral goes), and right off the grill, not from a buffet bucket. The worst thing that happens is there might be a wait for fresh steaks to finish, or for a newly emptied item to be replaced by the kitchen. By contrast from other Golden Carral locations, this one needs serious improvement. I regret that I suggested Golden Corral for an easy casual dinner option. The staff were friendly people, but some cleaning up and better food management/preparation would help a lot.

Our server, Payton, was kind, provide good service throughout our meal. I ordered the fish and chips and the steak, and both were very good. The beautiful waterfront view and live music made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening. My only suggestion is for the staff who seat guests. First impressions are everything in hospitality, and I noticed the menus and napkins were tossed onto the table rather than being placed down with care. It may seem like a small detail, but it sets the tone for the entire dining experience. I work in the hospitality industry and have traveled all over the world, and I've learned that outstanding customer service is just as important as great food. Even on busy nights, those little touches make guests feel welcome and encourage them to come back.

2nd edit .. i am finished exchanging with the owner. My record stands for itself on Yelp and so…read moredoes the owner's. Negative reviews boil down to the way she treats customers and the environment she promotes. But as she likes to say... NEXT .. This is bullying behavior and it doesn't look very professional. On every review platform others have been treated exactly the same. A Tip? for what exactly? The stellar service? Ruining my birthday dinner? Maybe she should pay her tip as the owner for treating customers this way. It IS refreshing to hear her defend her employees, as I have read comments by former employees she's treated horribly. My daughter-in-law simply said she felt sorry for the server working under these conditions. The owner responds to unfavorable reviews harshly. She wasn't present, didn't know the facts, yet responded within minutes of my review. To correct the account she provided: WE asked for the police after reaching an impasse. We were speaking with the manager, not "scolding" her daughter. We asked for the owner's contact information because we did not know the manager was her daughter. Once we learned that, my daughter-in-law asked for her father's information, assuming the owner might be "Eddie." It was an innocent misunderstanding. There was no shouting or harshness. Two steaks were overcooked. We intended to pay our $197 bill; we never refused. The police can confirm that. We never saw a receipt, only the total on a check. The claim that we refused payment is false. The fish remake offer came much later, after escalation, not immediately. I've written over 69 reviews in 14 years, and only four have been one-star reviews. This is the only review I've had to edit in response to untrue claims. We chose this restaurant to celebrate despite locals warning us about bad experiences. The menu looked promising. Most of the food was fine; the issue was service. As long as everything goes perfectly and you don't complain, you'll probably be fine. We were seated on a side patio in direct sun with no shade despite having a very fair-skinned infant with us. We asked to move and were reseated inside, even though we had requested a lake view, believing this was the only patio. We were not told there was a shaded back patio. The hostess made it feel like an inconvenience. Our server later explained seating is based on server quotas, not guest preference. We rarely saw our server; expo delivered most food. When I spoke to someone in a "Staff" jacket about seating (later identified as the owner's daughter), she turned away without engaging. The issue escalated when both steaks were overcooked twice. After another wait, a manager arrived who had been shucking oysters nearby without acknowledging us. Her shirt was soiled, which raised concern about presentation. She said inconsistent steak cooking was not something they could control. The steak was remade, but still overcooked. Because it was my birthday, my husband waited to eat with me while others started. By the time my replacement arrived, his fish sandwich was cold and no longer served at an appropriate holding temperature, which raised concerns about food safety. We again asked to speak with someone and were told it was the owner's daughter. We said we would pay for everything except the overcooked steak and cold sandwich. She refused. Because we could not resolve it, we asked for police assistance. Employees stood near the front door though we had never refused to pay. The sandwich was later offered to be remade, but by then we were ready to leave. The issue was never payment. It was poor food quality, poor service, and refusal to correct a reasonable complaint. The steak was eventually removed from the bill. The issue came down to a cold sandwich and the expectation that a party dining together should eat together. When mistakes happen, acknowledgment matters more than excuses. I have dined worldwide and rarely experienced service like this. After reading other reviews, I noticed a pattern of the owner dismissing feedback and responding defensively rather than constructively, which may explain the low ratings. Aside from this restaurant, we had a wonderful visit to the area and found other great restaurants. I only wish we had read reviews beforehand. The police told us the owner said we were no longer welcome back. OH Darn.

The place gave the impression of being a rather nice place, with a dress code. Said dress code was not enforced, so please don't feel like you will be overdressed. Business casual is truly not a requirement as it says on the door. However, The food was delicious. My husband had the beef Wellington and he said it was fabulous. The chicken was pretty underwhelming, but that's what I get for ordering chicken at a steak house, so no points really taken there. Just overall, it was an alright experience, I just don't feel like it was the high dining that's costs the almost $200 check. The table cloth was faux leather so they could just.... Use windex and wipe it down between customers. One of the forks still had food on it. The table was wobbly. (which, it was suppose to be a nice restaurant, why are we not double checking tables before service starts??) I hate to be so knitpicky, but for $200 I expected at least a little bit of fine dining. A romantic steakhouse dinner like they claim to provide. So, TLDR; great food, underwhelming service and atmosphere. Also, don't dress about your outfit, they don't care.
